Aqib Talib Too Risky For Patriots?
February 6th, 2013In the eyes of some Bucs fans, the second coming of Dick “Night Train” Lane, helmet-wielding, cabbie-punching, Adderall-popping cornerback Aqib Talib, is still a sore spot.
They mock Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik for only getting a fourth round pick in a swap with Bill Belicheat. Joe, meanwhile, considers that a borderline robbery of Belicheat as the Bucs were going to wash their hands of Talib anyway. So why not get a good draft pick for him?
(Remember how Dominik wheeled and dealed last spring using lesser draft picks to trade up for the likes of Doug Martin and Lavonte David?)
Well, it seems word is coming out of New England (or is it a negotiating plant by Belicheat?) says the Patriots don’t trust Talib to sign him to a long-term deal and may let him walk?
That’s what Comcast New England reported.
A source with knowledge of the situation told Comcast SportsNet’s Mike Giardi that, while Aqib Talib displayed no behavioral problems during his time with the Patriots, the team has enough concerns over his work ethic to be somewhat reluctant to offer the star cornerback a multiyear contract.
According to the source, Talib passed on the chance to do extra work at times this year and there are questions as to how he’d handle a long-term deal. The Pats, said the source, would prefer to sign Talib to a one-year, make-good contract.
Why, Joe cannot imagine how any team could not trust this modern day Mel Blount? Just like with the Bucs, Talib was not available when the Patriots needed him most.
It is also very odd to Joe to hear that Talib was such a treasure — by listening to some Bucs fans — even though the Bucs had a winning record without his services the past three years. How could that be?
No, this move to let Talib go for a middle-round pick was a very wise move by Dominik.

Rockstar outsmarts em all again, till his team takes the field.

your exactly right Joe, a very wise decision and great move. he got something for nothing. I see them signing him to a 1 year deal as well. Its such a shame though, all that wasted talent…

We should re-sign him for a year, then trade him away for another 4th round pick later this season.

I’m glad Talib is no longer a Buc. He is a good player, but will let you down in the end. History repeats itself.

Defensive Back Aqib Talib – DB – Patriots
A source tells CSN New England that the Patriots are “somewhat reluctant” to offer impending free agent Aqib Talib a multi-year contract.
Thanks to his history of off-field issues and questionable work ethic, the Pats prefer to sign Talib to a one-year deal. They understandably have questions about how he’d “handle” a long-term contract and boatload of cash, a la Albert Haynesworth. However, New England is unlikely to have that luxury as Talib is the clear No. 1 corner available on the market and is a good bet to attract lucrative multi-year offers. It’s a hairy situation for Bill Belichick, as he’s getting really thin at corner. Kyle Arrington is also a free agent.

These guys chatting missed a big point when talking about his “non-contact injury” … they never once mention his hamstring injury in Tampa. Not once.
So glad Dominik got a 4th rounder for him. Dom probably added another year to his tenure with the Bucs with that move

I was pissed at Mark because we were in the “playoff hunt”, and by giving up our one true “cb” for a player to be named later (providing zero 2012 help).
I just hope we make good of that 4th round pick.

The Patriots, are laughing that rears off at the bucs. the worst defense in the history of the N.F.L and we trade a one for a fourth. they will sign Talib, and we will be stuck with the worst defense in the N.F.L. Rock star need to think about the team and stop reading fans blogs, I don’t blame Barber for speaking out on this G.M. read between the lines.

Talib never lived up to the 1’st round billet from day 1. He sucked period. Always hurt, always screwing up off the field, always getting burned on the field, and never available when they needed him.
Close the book on this clown. He’ll be back on cuffs before the Draft.

I say lets go all in on secondary this draft
1 rd: Kenny Vaccaro FS
2 rd: Xavier Rhodes/Marcus Trufant CB
3 rd: Logan Ryan CB

Some of you guys (doc, Freemanbomb5) wouldn’t know your ass from a hole in the ground. We got rid of an overrated CB, who we weren’t going to resign anyways, for a 4th round draft pick. No only that, but we traded him in the middle of the season, so we only lost him for like 6 or 7 games. Vindication came in the AFCCG when at the most crucial point of the Patriots season, Mr. Talib was on the bench with another non-contact hammy injury, while Anquan Boldin almost single handedly won the game by abusing his replacement.

When healthy this guy is Elite
But I would have to agree, he’s injured WAY TOO OFTEN. It’s not worth it.
