Doug Martin Moves To Special Teams
January 25th, 2013Joe actually was interested in watching the Pro Bowl on Sunday, but now Joe is a bit freaked out by the thought of seeing Muscle Hampster, Doug Martin, getting put in unfamiliar positions, which could raise the possibility of an injury to the Bucs’ franchise running back.
Rookies at the Pro Bowl play plenty of special teams, and Martin explained to Buccaneers.com that he was practicing there this week and it was all new to him.
Please, football gods, please don’t let Martin bust up his neck making a tackle or blow out his knee getting clipped on the punt return team.

No Freaking way! Someone stop that! Come on man!
January 25th, 2013 at 1:53 pm
Martin will win Pro Bowl MVP with 37 carries for 212 yards and 9 catches for 107 yards
January 25th, 2013 at 1:54 pm
and NO BEACH VOLLEYBALL!!!
January 25th, 2013 at 2:00 pm
Don’t even say it out loud, Joe!
January 25th, 2013 at 2:01 pm
Hope he is kicking….
January 25th, 2013 at 2:01 pm
I think he will be ok ( knock on wood of course ). that guy is one tough SOB.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:02 pm
Just blow your assignment Doug, I mean, it’s not like you’re going to get released.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:07 pm
Special Teams aren’t very special in the ProBowl. You’re not allowed to rush the kicker/ it’s all very watered down. I’m knocking on wood over here and saying that I’m sure he’ll be fine.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:07 pm
They don’t play hard anyway. So, yeah what bucsfanjeff said is what Doug should do. Whose coaching the NFC?
January 25th, 2013 at 2:08 pm
Joe…send all th film you have archived on Jacquez Green…….ASAP !
January 25th, 2013 at 2:12 pm
Remember that idea the NFL had about eliminating kickoffs? Makes sense now, don’t it! 🙂
January 25th, 2013 at 2:15 pm
People may not agree with this and that’s fine, since players are at risk of getting hurt they don’t play as hard for a game that doesn’t mean much. Personally I think we should get rid of the game but still keep the Name Pro Bowl and all that it stands for. Keep it in HAwaii send the players and make it a fan attraction Like a kick punt and pass event, with exclusive meet and greets as well as pictures, like a on field picnic type event.
January 25th, 2013 at 2:25 pm
I wouldn’t mind him returning kicks, but I’m not to keen on him tackling.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:09 pm
Not even three Bucs playing in this “game” can get me to watch. The NFL charging admission to this is worse than charging full price to the exhibition games.

January 25th, 2013 at 3:33 pm
Too bad Freeman couldnt finish the year like he started.
If Freeman didn’t file a vacation for 6-7 weeks of the season, then he would be there too.
Oh well, I guess Josh will stay busy at the gun range…
January 25th, 2013 at 3:36 pm
I agree joe, shut that $h!t down immediately. Number 1 running backs don’t play special teams. Is Adrian Petersen playing special teams. Dom needs to get on the phone now. No way the Bucs should allow this.
January 25th, 2013 at 3:40 pm
This is exactly why most smart players fake injuries to get out of this game. Nobody wants to risk a career on a meaningless game that nobody cares about.
January 25th, 2013 at 4:00 pm
Right @ gotbbucs especially New England players lol I think there pride got injured due to the loss from the ravens game. They don’t wanna participate anyway. There trynna mess my man Doug up because they see the great in him and there just downplaying him because he’s a rookie. A vet would have said hell no quick lol
January 25th, 2013 at 4:11 pm
@Joe
Now do you understand why players take it easy during the game????
No one wants to jeopardize their livelihood for this stupid game!!
CANCEL THE PRO BOWL!!
Make it a skills show…
January 25th, 2013 at 4:18 pm
It’s a legitimate concern. The Pro Bowl is farcical and should be eliminated.
January 25th, 2013 at 4:34 pm
Don’t worry, it’s the Pro Bowl. He will be walking down the field and playing patty-cake.
January 25th, 2013 at 4:49 pm
Doug and Dom
Don’t let them push you around………Unless you’re in a wagon, cause that $h!+ be fun!
January 25th, 2013 at 4:54 pm
Here is all I have to say….Nathan Wonsley—“Undrafted rookie who came out of nowhere to record a pair of 100-yard games for the 1986 Buccaneers. Sustained a serious neck injury on a punt return in November of that year and in spite of a brave comeback attempt in 1989, never played pro football again. Was leading all NFL rookies in rushing when he got hurt, caused by a tackle he was making on special teams of all things.”
January 25th, 2013 at 5:34 pm
1. Denial 2. Anger 3. Depression 4. Acceptance…… the 4 stages of “the end of the football season” and the Pro-Bowl.
January 25th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
Freeman could play special teams at the pro-bowl, But he is only “24 years old”.
January 25th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Relax girls …
January 25th, 2013 at 6:30 pm
Its the Pro Bowl….no one is tackling anyone….they should just take the helmets and pads off and let them play touch football. I understand its an honor for the players to be playing in the Pro-bowl, but only bad things can happen during a game that has no meaning to the outcome what so ever. Just another NFL money grab. Let them play Madden instead.
January 25th, 2013 at 7:21 pm
Joe,
I’m hyperventilating! According to PFT, VJax wants more money!! Wtf is going on?! Please clear this up for us!!
January 25th, 2013 at 7:28 pm
Never mind Joe, I was told wrong. Smh. :/
January 25th, 2013 at 8:11 pm
Martin played CB as a freshman
January 25th, 2013 at 9:47 pm
I don’t get into the Pro Bowl, or All tar games in general (although I do like it in hockey). They should even have kick offs in the pro Bowl. What’s the point? Dumb.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:48 pm
JOE
You have seen the amount actual hitting and tackling they do right?
He’ll be fine
The game is a joke
January 26th, 2013 at 3:15 am
lol their all pro bowlers someone has to play on the special teams…
January 26th, 2013 at 1:08 pm
IM HAPPY THE PRO BOWL IS A JOKE!!!
ALL U TOUGH GUYS ON HERE NEED TO SHUT UP!!!
YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE NFL OR FOOTBALL!!!
January 26th, 2013 at 1:42 pm
We had a back in 1986 that was built very similar to Doug Martin, almost to a fault, his name was Nathan Wonsley, he had a couple of huge games (Lions & Rams) and was on the verge of stardom when in a game against the Bears (I believe in ’87) Ray Perkins had the bright idea to play him at special teams and he made a vicious tackle that basically cost him his career, as he ended up with a serious neck injury and lived with a halo to keep his neck from moving. That’s all it took to wipe away what could’ve been a sensational running back for the Bucs, lets pray Martin steers clear of any tackling.
January 26th, 2013 at 3:17 pm
Its a fudging conspiracy to stop us from being elite..I want the bucs to beat the hell out the whole nf-fail..Like that SB year..SMASHED EVERYBODY…Let Patrick Peterson do that special teams shhh! If anyone of our players get hurt then you know it alls will get to see it unfold on the grassy nole!
