Shrinks, Faith, & Freeman’s Missing Intangibles
December 27th, 2012Don’t expect Josh Freeman to ever be a player who will “captivate an organization” or “will his team to win,” says former Bucs QB Shaun King. “I think it’s always going to be physical with him; I don’t ever think it’s going to be mental.”
King, one of three quarterbacks to lead Tampa Bay to the NFC Championship game, went head to head with Ian Beckles on all things Bucs and NFL this morning on WDAE-AM 620. King also reiterated his take from early this season that Josh Freeman is in desperate need of a sports psychologist and cited that Drew Brees told King he used one with great success. (Joe wonders if Freeman already has sought counseling?)
King also praised Gerald McCoy’s Pro Bowl nod but explains why he believes a lot of McCoy’s votes were personality- and not performance-driven.
And King dives into Tim Tebow conversation and compares Tebow to Albert Haynesworth. Enjoy. Joe did.

is that what S King looks like now? LOL
December 27th, 2012 at 2:36 pm
So King says that because players wanted to go home they just choose players based on personality?
Hmm, thats weird that Tebow didn’t make it.
I am not buying that Mccoy made it on personality. I would argue Suh has much more “personality”, plus the commercials, he has way more recognition.
The pro bowl is certainly a popularity contest among fans but I am not so sure amongst players and coaches.
Talk about a back handed compliment by King.

Looks like Shaun “Burger” King has been wolfing down a whole lot more than pineapple.
December 27th, 2012 at 2:44 pm
@Westcoast
Suh has been voted by his peers as the league’s dirtiest player 2 years in a row while The Dini works for the OCNN sweating and stumbling over himself talking to Madonna. Dini wins in the personality department.

This king dude got nothing good to say. .. McCoy is a pro bowl player because of his personality..he opens his big mouth and says dumb stuff
December 27th, 2012 at 3:10 pm
@Sensible
Maybe a bad example but what would McCoy have to do to show he deserves it? He obviously didn’t make it on stats. Maybe if he was a starter in the pro bowl? Does he have to be MVP to earn real respect? I think thats asking a little much. He didn’t take the league by storm for sure but he did good enough to get in on only his third year as a pro and only his first full season.

Its still so hard to believe King played in the NFL for more than one preseason game. He should have to give 75% of his NFL pension to tony dungy.
December 27th, 2012 at 3:25 pm
I’m tired of hearing from this tool. Is the statement “King, one of three quarterbacks to lead Tampa Bay to the NFC Championship game…” an attempt to validate his opinions? He led the Bucs to nothing. He was an average QB at best that benefited greatly from one of the greatest defenses of all time.
He has zero credibility because he constantly contradicts himself. On one hand he says it’s all physical with Freeman and he doesn’t believe it will ever be mental. On the other hand he says Freeman needs a sports psychologist. Huh? Which one is it? Physical, mental, or both?! Make up your mind! He sounds like nothing more than a washed up player desperately trying to keep himself in the spotlight.
Your website loses credibility every time you quote him and you seem to do it a lot. I’m not sure what your fascination is with this long forgotten mediocre has-been but I think it’s time to detach yourself from his hip.

Suh is too scary for the offenses to vote for. Nobody is afraid of Geraldini.
December 27th, 2012 at 4:06 pm
Damn! King reminds me of the Sta-Puf Marshmallow man from Ghost Busters.
December 27th, 2012 at 4:21 pm
Shaun King = Josh Freeman
December 27th, 2012 at 4:37 pm
If Freeman needs to see a shrink, King should see a dietician.
December 27th, 2012 at 4:50 pm
Joe please quit putting this worthless dribble on your site. Taking advice from a worthless QB who sucks worse at doing sports analysis is not who I went to hear about every week. The negative responses should be hint enough. Wake up and quit pissing your loyal readers off.

It should say, “King, one of two quarterbacks in the history of the NFL to lose a quarterback job to Rob “Robo-Sack” Johnson….” Here’s who is offering expert advice on quarterbacking….
“In Week 16 (of 2002 December 23), King played so poorly against the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing three interceptions (one of which was returned for a touchdown) versus only five completions, that Rob Johnson started the second half. Rob Johnson led the Buccaneers to a late touchdown drive in a 17-7 loss. Johnson had 12-for-18 passing for 159 yards, one touchdown, and 5 sacks.”

LOL – Shaun “Burger” King that is great, awesome. There are some of those people who did like Shaun I am sure but the people who respected their craft and the game most likely filled it out the way they should’ve.
I mean come on back in the day Shaun was doing that a lot of the players were staying late and watching film (Brooks and Barber were huge film junkies). That probably tells us more about how the scew ups voted I think. Are you telling me Brooks, Sapp, Lynch and Barber did that – LOL.

Joe I’m honestly SICK of hearing ppl say Josh Freeman this or Josh Freeman that. Yes the middle aged 20 yr old needs to work on some things (like all of us do in our profession) but PLEASE do me a favor. Of all the starting QBs in the league compile a list of which ones fans would take over Josh Freeman today! I can honestly say that besides Andrew Luck who is actually playing in a pro style (not a half read) offense I don’t see ANY young QB that I would take over Josh Freeman. This bashing has to stop! Who the hell did we have before Josh Freeman??? Name a great QB the Bucs had before him??? He will get us to where we need to be! Everybody just needs to be patient & watch grow thru the growing pains!
December 27th, 2012 at 5:40 pm
King does not equal Freeman. Not a King fan at all but at least he won. Greeman has always been a loser unlike the much maligned Tebow. I’ll never say Tebow is a great QB but he his a winner. It seems that people hate the fact he is a good person and should be a role model. Hey can’t we say similar things about Ronde? Works hard, definite role model, and performs
December 27th, 2012 at 6:16 pm
Bluesbass82, I’m with you. 100%.
December 27th, 2012 at 6:45 pm
You know the Bucs have a horrible history when Shaun King can comment on current players.
ugh
December 27th, 2012 at 7:13 pm
Bahahahaha make it rain Joe lolol
December 27th, 2012 at 7:18 pm
P.S. At this moment you can plug in any QB and get better results that’s how awful Free Free is playing. Argue it all you want but the games don’t lie. I’m not talking about the past I’m talking about what he’s putting out there now. Potential doesn’t win games people’s. But meh…
We’ll see if this kid ever learns how to get rid of his multiple personalities on field. This Jekyll/Hyde business is maddening and getting old quick.
December 27th, 2012 at 7:52 pm
lmao
Ok so let me get this straight. Most of you hate Shaun King because he sucked and never won anything here but he did lead us, on the coat tails of our great defense, to a conference championship appearance.
But yet, you absolutely love Josh Freeman who has won even less than King? Lmao. In 10 years from now you all will be talking about Freeman the same way you are talking about King. You just dont know it yet. I Love it. Lol
December 27th, 2012 at 8:09 pm
Lol
December 27th, 2012 at 10:49 pm
@silence,
And King was a 22 year old rookie when he won a playoff game on the way to the conference championship.
Yet freeman can’t be evaluated after four years!
December 28th, 2012 at 12:12 am
Lol unbelieveable.
December 28th, 2012 at 2:32 am
Tebow >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Shaun King.
December 28th, 2012 at 7:15 am
Shaun King is so fat, Obi Wan Kenobi said, “That’s no moon….it’s Shaun King.”
