Lesson Learned On The Heinous Three-Man Rush

On two key 3rd-and-long scenarios in the Bucs’ tight loss to New Orleans in October, Tampa Bay threw three-man rushes at Drew Brees and were carved up by the immortal Saints wide receiver Lance Moore. And there were other occasions that day when the three-man rush didn’t work
The Brees three-man rush was only slightly less heinous than the two-man rush rolled out against Atlanta, which led to Matt Ryan comfortably tossing a 20-yard pass for a first down.
Greg Schiano said he has learned a lesson when it comes to the Saints.
“[Brees] is so good at seeing what you’re doing. We’re going to have disguise better than we did. And, you know, one thing he did is when we gave him a three-man rush, he held the football. And you know, young guys maybe sometimes don’t get that, but obviously this guy, he’s as experienced and as good as there is. And you know, third down, he just, that was a real weakness in the first game,” Schiano said on the Buccaneers Radio Network on Monday.
That sure sounds like Schiano knows his coaching missed the mark in the last Saints game. Joe severely doubts there wasn’t a truckload of film available entering that game showing how Brees reacted to a three-man rush.
Schiano went on to say his primary concern for Sunday is the Bucs’ red zone defense and third-down success. The Saints converted 60 percent of third downs in Tampa.

I remember Derrick Brooks saying on his SiriusXM NFL Radio show saying “No more 3 man. rush!” and even Adrian Clayborn tweeted out something like: 3 man rush???

The Saints are coming out with a bang this week.
NYGs’ dropped a 50 burger on them last week, and I am certain they are motivated to come ticked off and ready to go.
Who wants it more? Our QB or Brees?
Freeman needs to complete 55%+ of his passes to win, no more of this wormburning crap.
Freeman is only 24, and I have hope he can learn to throw more accurately/with better touch. We need him to step up.
I don’t get how he can’t mentally prepare himself and treat every quarter like the “4th quarter”.
I love Freeman’s level headedness, but I am really dying to see some raw emotion out there (for his teammates to see and get motivated).
IDK, sometimes I feel like Freeman is just too laid back. Urgency, read progression, and a consistent release point would go a long with him.
Hope Freeman can bounce back this week and start making some plays, or else another QB may be on the horizion.

Would like to see Bucs come out and run the no- huddle from the start . Brees has been turning the ball over the last couple of games so jump out early and see if the Bucs can pick off a couple . Free needs to start playing like a big time QB and show the NFL what they will have to contend with in the near future .

We have a 2 man rush in our defensive scheme? I must of missed that one. Lol, That really sounds like a bad idea… if the 3 man rush dont work why would they even think about 2.

Yes, it was on a 3rd and 3 or so against eh Falcons. The Bucs thought they would be tricky and drop Miller and McCoy back into zone coverage and stop the impending slant to Roddy White. Initially, Matt Ryan stared straight into the 2 yard retreat of the two DTs but he held onto the ball, because he knew he had all day to throw and waited for a receiver, it was probably White find a nice open area inhabited by nobody and threw and extremely easy first down caught 10-15 yards downfield.
The problem with iour defense is our terrible coordinator. I really like Schiano, but Sheridan is the worst and he needs to go.

That being said, DaQuan Bowers got a sack against Cam Newton close to the Panthers goalline on a 3 man rush…. If a team has beast pass rushers and the D threatens a blitz, sometimes a 3 man rush can be useful (to bluff the offense into throwing a hot route into coverage or audible to a screen). But the way we do it, line up with 3 DL and nobody else within 5 yards of the ball, it’s blatantly obvious we are rushing 3 and a high school QB could figure it out. Sheridan HAS to go.

Play the defensive line like you did last week. Let them do there thing. Fix the CBs and the 3rd down play calling.

Still sounds to me that Shiano doesn’t like taking responsibility for HIS mistakes. “maybe some young guys don’t get that” sounds like he throwin the blame on young players instead of taking it himself. Shiano’s made a BOATLOAD of coaching gaffes this season, including end of half miscalculations and bad late game calls, and still says “given the same circumstances, I do it the same way”. Seems like young players are not the only issue here.

Did you see Roy hustling downfield on that play? Priceless. Hate to be fairweather, but I’m camping this weekend and probably not even tracking the game- better for the soul. Uninspiring football being played at the moment. I will, of course, catch it on Game Rewind.

When they dropped McCoy and Miller back into coverage, they were hoping that Ryan would sack himself by rolling on the floor laughing.

4,5 or 6 man rush can’t get there so why not a 3 man rush.Everybody know’s we r bringing 5 or 6 every time so they throw a curve and send 3.Nobody’s crying if we get a pick and the 3rd to last play last week.There it was but the corner dropped it.The game was over when they gave-up and ran it into the pile on 3rd down.You simply can’t leave the game in this defence’s hand’s.
