Bucs Reunion Rubs Salt In Andy Reid’s Wounds

The irony is so rich, Joe cannot believe this wasn’t a planned stunt.
When the Bucs announced they were to honor the lone Bucs squad to win a Super Bowl, the 2002 team, and chose a home game against the Eagles, Joe couldn’t wipe the smile from his grill. Still can’t.
For those who maybe weren’t aware or are just crawling from under a rock, the Bucs beat the Eagles in the final game played at Veteran’s Stadium in the NFC championship to advance to the Super Bowl.
Beleaguered Eagles coach Andy Reid was at the helm that day, and with the Eagles freefalling this season, it may be his last in the town wrongly believed to be the City of Brotherly Love.
Reid spoke about his harrowing memories of the Bucs dancing on the Eagles home turf in celebration.
“I can’t say I am looking forward to that group again,” said Reid, whose Eagles lost four of five NFC title games including three in a row. The Bucs “were a great football team. Beat us fair and square. Wish it wouldn’t have happened but nice to see them honor that group.”
Joe hopes with the presence of so many Bucs greats from that historic win over the Eagles, that the current Bucs are inspiring to spank the Eagles once again.

I didn’t realize the irony until this article and I love it all the more. They screwed us two years in a row before that and didn’t take advantage of it.

I always assumed it was planned that way. What better way to show the respect for this team than to celebrate it against the team we beat to get over the hump?

It is probably safe to assume that during the 2002 season, Buc fans figured the team could easily beat 29 of the 31 teams out there. Though I’m sure we thought we COULD beat the Steelers (Brad Johnson didn’t get the start that night) there was that sense of dread when having to play the Eagles. Once we got by the Eagles I don’t think there was a Buc fan on the planet that wasn’t 100% confident they’d win the Super Bowl. Truthfully, I was more excited about that Eagle win than the Raider win. It didn’t matter who we played the Super Bowl against, after getting over the Eagles barrier, it was a foregone conclusion that they would win the Super Bowl.

Yeah, I’m hoping this is the game they use to decide that they want to blow a team out the WHOLE game. It’s nice seeing them put up a bunch of points on their early drive, but then frustrating to see them fizzle out and let the other team in the game. I would love to see a dominant performance from start to finish….

Hope they flood the stadium’s big screens with highlights from that game! Jurevicius’s 72 yd catch and run play, Alstott’s TD run (plus any of his runs), Pittman’s 30+ yd catch, Keyshawns’s TD catch and especially, Ronde’s pick 6 game sealer! Heck, just show them on a continuing loop!

Don’t want to be mean because Reid lost his son before the season and this is going to be his final season as philly’s coach but IN YOUR FACE!!!! This was the perfect game for this honor and if you didn’t get the irony right away then you’re not a true bucs fan. Also wouldn’t it be nice for Ronde to take one back to the house? Considering he’s the only active player still playing and he secured our ticket to the super bowl

Maybe, at the beginning of halftime, when the teams cross on the way to the locker rooms, Ronde can steal Reid’s wallet, run the length of the field and spike it in the endzone in front of the pirate’s ship. Just for old time sake.
That would make the high lite reel on Sunday night and MNF.

Still remember Ronde saying , to Hell with the Pro Bowl , I’m going to the Super Bowl . Best moment as a Buc fan may have been seeing the eggle fan sitting with a look of dismay on his face . Eggles suck ! And yes I can spell eagle . lol
