OK Bucs fans, this was weird wasn’t it? Watching football at noon only to have a late afternoon Bucs kickoff?
Today the Bucs travel to Denver to face perhaps their toughest test of the season, the Broncos. Yes, Joe has made much of the fact the Bucs have the worst pass defense in the NFL, and Peyton Manning is on fire for the Broncos.
Joe’s a borderline mathematical illiterate but Joe can sure add two-plus-two and he doesn’t like the sum of this addition.

Can’t wait to see how the refs call the game when we have the ball. see worse than both of those interference calls on almost every play, I’ve never seen a 12 men on defense called before the ball is snapped, and there were 3 separate holds on the last running play. I would of accepted a turnover at the end of the half if thats what had happened. But what I do know is that were not going to hold a Manning led team to under 10 points. An extra 3 points would come in handy. But they have been doing this all season so I shouldn’t be surprised. Just would of thought they would learn from there mistakes by now. This game has been excruciatingly annoying for some reason. We can’t get anything going offensively and we’re dying by a thousand cuts on defense.

I blame this game on the coaches. Defense did as good as can be expected if not better. And someone needs to slap the crap out of Schiano and tell him to stop sitting on leads, ESPECIALLY against elite QBs. Even high school coaches know this.

This is what you get with a new coach/system. You can throw teams off for a little while, but after half a season they start to get the “book” on you. Teams have figured out the Bucs weaknesses and it’s just not pretty. At all.

The Bucs had an excellent game plan to start but they should have had two seperate and different game plans. One for the 1st half and another for the 2nd.
Peyton and the Bronco’s coaching staff made the proper adjustments at the half and the Bucs changed nothing.

Yes the Broncos have pressured Freeman almost all day, but the great QBs can make completions even under pressure. Just look at Manning. The Bucs have gotten decent pressure on him a number of times today but he still is able to keep his head and make accurate throws. Freeman is just not good enough yet to do that. He needs lots of time and space to be effective. Unless you have an elite o-line that’s just not realistic. The great QBs consistently make throws under pressure. Simple as that. No excuses for Freeman…he’s just not great. He’s above average but that’s it right now.

The truth is our offense was ineffective in the second half because the pass rush and failed protection. Freeman is his normal self under pressure. That’s what separate the good from the greats. The greats make you pay and the average to above average gets skid dish. Hence the L.

You know…as frustrating as today was I can actually see the Bucs possibly winning their last four games and maybe making the playoffs. It’s not likely but still possible. I think they handle the Eagles & Rams, and I believe they’ll beat the Falcons too because it’s the final game of the season and they’ll likely be resting their starters quite a bit. The biggest concern is the Saints. Can they do it? Not sure, but damn straight I’ll be rooting for them.

I believe we have a good group of DE’s when Clayborn is healthy and a good DT in McCoy, but next year if we don’t want to be nearly last in sacks again we REALLY need another pass-rushing DT to put next to McCoy. Someone who can demand his own attention and take some heat off McCoy. That and a couple good CB’s and the Bucs will be vying for the NFC South next year.

Well, it turned out like I thought it would. I’m not disappointed. This is a game we should have lost. We are not as good as Denver but my guess is that few teams in the NFL are. We need to get a few more pieces of the puzzle together and we’ll be able to beat the best. Right now all we can hope for is close. I’m still much more entertained by this team than last year’s team. There is no quit in this Bucs team.
