Panthers Whine About “Decimated” O-Line

Joe really got a kick out of Panthers head coach Ron Rivera moaning in this Charlotte Observer video about his “decimated” offensive line and how hard it is to use a backup center.
Boo, hoo, hoo. What a softy. The Bucs are racking up huge numbers with a troop of reserves on their offensive line.
Joe found one stat revealed in the video rather interesting; the Panthers lead the NFL in yards-per-play on first down. For Joe, that illustrates how inconsistent Cam Newton has played along with the entire Panthers offense, which is among the worst in the NFL (18.1 points per game).
On paper, there’s really no reason the Bucs should lose in Carolina on Sunday.

Sorry Chico (yes that’s his nickname) you’ll be looking for work come January, unfortunately your resume doesn’t come anywhere near those you’ll be in competition with for those job openings that are coming in SD, Cleveland, Philly & Jax. As for this game, I’ve been hearing from our writers that this is going to be a close one, Prisco has even picked the Panthers to win, I don’t see it, yeah their defense has played better over the last 3 weeks or so, but their offense has become predicated on Greg Olsen getting open, they have trouble running the ball and Cam has become a turnover machine (10 ints/5 fumbles) with a QB rating of 77.2, bring pressure up the gut and contain the ends so he can’t escape and Cam will serve up ints all day. Steve Smith has 1 td this season.

I’m hoping we can continue to be consistent and that this isn’t a trap game. I hope we can do that and that we can straight up embarrass this team on Sunday. What a great feeling it would be to be 6-4 and clearly being in the playoff hunt. Go Bucs!!!!!

I’m always worried before we play an “easy win” game. If I remember correctly we were supposed to beat the Chargers easily. I hope we go in there and just REALLY stick it to them. Enough to get Rivera fired because of this game alone.

I don’t think Shiano would let them, but I hope the players are not looking at this game as an “easy win” like alot of fans are. There really are no “easy game wins” on the road in the NFL.

this is a trap game if they let it be, coach will have his men ready and then its up to them if they want it more that the Puddy-Tats.. either way they have to make sure that their not buying into the Puddy-Tats record and just go to work! love NSO!!!!! BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our OL backups to the starters are Larsen and Merridith. So we may be down to our THIRD backup on the OL against a descent DL for the Panthers.
We SHOULD be worried about this game. The moment we expect to win, we take our eye off the task at hand.

Reasons on paper the panthers might win include them gaining 0.6 more yards per dropback than they give up whereas the Bucs are even, that turnovers are barely predictive (we all know of a QB who has thrown 18, 6, 22, and 5 picks in successive seasons), them being the third least penalized team in the league, they’ve played a much tougher schedule, home teams win 57% of the time, they haven’t racked up their good stats in garbage time because most of their games were close, and we might have a bunch of new injuries.
The Bucs are better on net when it comes to running.
Carolina doesn’t look that good when they play and Newton may be one of those rare QBs like Favre whose INTs are consistent over time so I’m not pessimistic, but I wouldn’t be shocked if their record regresses upwards to what the stats say it “should” be going forward.

This is a division game, which means it will probably be a tough one. Not to mention the fact that Carolina typically plays us tough no matter what their record. I hate them more than any other team, and I will never forget the game they ran for 300 yards on us on MNF, essentially starting what has been 4 years of miserable football (minus some hope in 2010). If we could beat them by 100, it wouldn’t be enough to make me happy.

I agree with Hawaiian about divisional games. I believe a game like this could come down to turnovers and I like the Bucs in this case. The only way the Panthers win is if the Bucs self destruct, I don’t see that happening.
On an interesting note, during halftime during the California-Oregon game, the sideline babe asked Chip Kelly (10-0) about the devastating injuries to the Mighty Ducks defense. He looked at her like she was crazy and said, “What injuries? We don’t talk about injuries.”
