Aqib Talib Traded To Patriots
November 1st, 2012Helmet-wielding, cabbie-slugging, Adderrall-popping, coach-cussing, referee-charging, pistol-friendly, granny-hassling Aqib Talib has joined Bill Belicheat and the New England Patriots, per ProFootballTalk.com. The trade went down this afternoon(Update: the Bucs dealt a 2013 seventh-round pick with Talib for the Patriots’ 2013 fourth-round pick.)
Wow!
This ends a turbulent era for the man Raheem Morris dubbed the “wild child” shortly after he was drafted by Chucky and Bruce Almighty in the first round of the NFL Draft back in 2008.
It’s no surprise the Bucs were trying to unload Talib, but it is a surprise that they found a taker at the trade deadline’s 11th hour. Joe suspects Greg Schiano strongly recommended Talib’s work ethic to his pal Belicheat, though not the cornerback’s shenanigans.
The only thing Joe’s sure of after this is that the Bucs most certainly will be looking at a cornerback in the first round come April’s draft.
Joe has no problem with the deal, and Joe also would have been just fine if Talib rode out the season before moving on in free agency. Talib simply ran out of rope with his latest drug mess.

Bye Bye wild child. I have a feeling you’ll be with the Raiders in no time!!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:41 pm
Another reason I like Schiano.
November 1st, 2012 at 4:41 pm
good bye you pain in the neck! hopefully nothing less than a third round pick
November 1st, 2012 at 4:41 pm
The remaining QBs on our schedule will be licking their chops for sure now!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:42 pm
Nice intro Joe!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:44 pm
Pats are looking for trouble…first Winslow and now Talib…..granted they let Winslow walk….how soon before Tablib over stays his welcome…….trouble finds trouble even when you’re a “grown up”……
November 1st, 2012 at 4:44 pm
Now we know what was meant by “you guy’s will have to trust me on this one”!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:44 pm
What a waste of a draft class….
November 1st, 2012 at 4:45 pm
Macabee
Exactly what I was just thinking!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:46 pm
Is this what Schiano meant by “trust us on this”?
November 1st, 2012 at 4:47 pm
Peace
November 1st, 2012 at 4:48 pm
holy crap…didn’t see that..I really thought a trade would happen but i thought it would be Blount or benn….
November 1st, 2012 at 4:49 pm
Please please please don’t let Eric Wright get suspended. The thought of Myron Lewis getting picked on by the likes of Peyton Manning and Drew Brees gives me nightmares.
November 1st, 2012 at 4:50 pm
He will Love Boston! Lots of Cab’s up there, and Drugs are plentiful.
November 1st, 2012 at 4:51 pm
Bucs get a 4th round pick for Talib, but they give up their 7th round pick. I guess something is better than nothing.
November 1st, 2012 at 4:53 pm
@Pete Dutcher
You were right at the beginning of the year…Talib didn’t make it all the way through. I owe you a brew!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:53 pm
Not bothered by this at all. See you Acab…say Hi to Kellen Winslow after you get cut by Belicheat too.
November 1st, 2012 at 4:55 pm
Wow! I like the move so don’t get me wrong with these next questions.
If the rumors about Eric Wright are true what does this mean? We are without a real starting corner for the next five weeks? And will we be trading Wright as well? Because if you objectively look at it, Wright has had as many issues as Talib.
Strong statement by Schiano, just wondering what our future for this season looks like. If you told me before the season that we would be without Clayborn, Talib, Nicks and Joseph for the second half of the year I would have puked. However, with the way this team is playing and believing in themselves I still think we can shock some people!
November 1st, 2012 at 4:57 pm
I wish we would at least traded for mike Jenkins. We need to Draft corners this year.
November 1st, 2012 at 4:58 pm
So, do they promote LeQuan Lewis from the practice squad to take his place, or does someone from another position get the nod?
November 1st, 2012 at 4:58 pm
im sure this is a 7th rd pick maybe a 6th. i would have kept him for that. He would have left in free agency at the end of the year but that could have led to a compesatory pick plus e wright maybe gone for 4 games. I guess GOD really wants myron lewis on the field!
November 1st, 2012 at 5:00 pm
I’d like to be a fly on the wall in that negotiation. I wonder if Talib and his agent were happy with the move.
They won’t be able to trade Eric Wright.
I wonder if Aqib will give any going away interviews. Interested to see if he is willing to unveil who brought a bottle of Adderall to gauntlet day.
I wonder what he is willing to say about the Little General’s regime and the back door shenanigans.
I wonder how many players were really affected and to what extent by the opening day of training camp.
I know it’s a contract year so we may have to wait awhile before he spills the beans. Nobody likes a tattletale.
More to come.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:00 pm
It was obvious he wasn’t going to be here anymore. Getting a 4th round pick and giving up one of our 7th round picks is a deal IMO.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:02 pm
Giving up a seventh with Talib to get a fourth is a steal when compared to letting Talib walk for nothing at the end of the year. More kudos to Mark Dominik!
November 1st, 2012 at 5:03 pm
Talib and a 7th rounder for a fourth rounder. Interesting trade. I think I like it!
November 1st, 2012 at 5:04 pm
As said before we gave up a 7th and Aqib for the Pats 4th next year which probably is like a high 5th round. Pretty much dumping the guy. Curious timing though I think I would have waited until the end of the year. Now we really need him although I think he was way overrated. As one previous post said we still have Peyton, Drew and Matty Ice twice and with Eric Wrights suspension looming this is going to be one long 2nd half of the year. Maybe with Nicks going down Schiano sees the writing on the wall to get ready for next year.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:04 pm
all those who are saying draft a corner in the first round obviously haven’t seen Mani Teo play. this kid is special and would be a huge addition to our team. if he is there when we pick we better take him.
MANTI TEO! MANTI TEO!
November 1st, 2012 at 5:07 pm
Any chance they move RB back to his old spot now?
November 1st, 2012 at 5:08 pm
Isn’t Talib in the final year of his contract? No one much expected that he would be re-signed, did they? So essentially a 4th for a half-season’s play; not too shabby.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:16 pm
Deeds above words is the mantra in the new Buc order. Happy to see this one. Bottom line, the Bucs are not even close to sniffing the play offs, so they may as well clean out their proverbial closets and start collecting draft picks. The corners that are on the team had to earn their slot as the roster was pared down…let’s see them take advantage of their opportunity. Talib has been toast too many times to justify keeping him and his baggage.
What about the corner we picked up from the Seahawks yesterday – have seen no comments on that one.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:17 pm
@Andrew
Seems like a luxury pick at this point. Mase has been close to the league leader in tackles this year and Lavonte is Double Nickel Reincarnate. We don’t really need Manti unfortunately.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:18 pm
eventually he’s gonna be a starter in NE. Win-Win 4 both sides. Now we can truly address tha depth and cb issues come draft time.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:18 pm
Another great move by the Dom. I really hope Aqib gets his $h!t together and does well for Belichick. Still I’m glad he’s gone. Now if we can get rid of another idiot next week, I’ll be a cappy hamper.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:20 pm
This puts an end to one of the most pitiful front office performances of all time, one headed by Bruce Allen. His initial draft class includes players in their primes, ages 29-30. What do we have to show for it? Q Black and Zuttah? Really? And he skated out of here with a teflon back. Amazing!
November 1st, 2012 at 5:31 pm
Who was the CB we picked up yesturday?

Truth to tell, I wish Schiano could have changed his life for the better. But after what? Eight chances? It was time to cut the chains.
I AM impressed that Schiano made an example of him.
Thanks for the acknowledgement 🙂 I don’t get it much around here 😉
November 1st, 2012 at 5:40 pm
Like it or not he was our best CB and when he was on he was on. We better of gotten something good for him.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:40 pm
@ sensiblebuc
That is true and Mason Foster has been playing great and I know we need a corner but just think David Teo and Foster at the strong side lb. that would be a dream come true. I know i probably wont happen but I got till April to dream of it happening. I just think Teo is one of a kind, once in a generation, cant miss, Ray Lewis type of player. thats how good he is.
November 1st, 2012 at 5:51 pm
@Andrew,
If we want to draft Teo (a Hawaii boy by the way), we better not win another game. You are spot on with him though, he is a special type player. I just hope he ends up in the AFC, because I don’t want to play against him very often.
November 1st, 2012 at 6:11 pm
@ Hawaiian
True that. if we dont get him hopefully he goes to the AFC. that is going to be one lucky team.
November 1st, 2012 at 6:28 pm
We wont get him becouse we are done winning period,go bucs great business move great image move ,moving forward
November 1st, 2012 at 7:33 pm
Just an FYI….
National Media and those outside of Tampa are looking at the trade as a positive for the Patriots who are strengthening their defensive backfield. You know, that team in the AFC that is looking to return to the Superbowl once again…
Happens in baseball all the time, playoff contenders trade for potential free agents from other teams.
You look for the negatives and that’s all you’ll see.
November 1st, 2012 at 7:45 pm
Glad Talib is gone. He was end of suspended again at playoff time.
