Dammit, the Bucs absolutely couldn’t lose this game against the lowly Chiefs. And they didn’t!
Job well done. The Bucs were fired up after halftime (no they didn’t pop Adderall), and thoroughly smoked Kansas City, minus some heinous special teams play.
E.J. Biggers made Joe and other Bucs fans say, “Aqib who?” It was Biggers who made a great open-field tackle of Dexter McCluster and followed it up with a stout pass breakup on McCluster that was pounced on and plucked just above the turf by Ronde Barber for his 78-yard interception/touchdown return.
Josh Freeman remains inconsistent. But it’s no big deal when he gets a couple of good breaks and the Bucs win — and when they play a heinous team like the Chiefs and Mike Williams acts like an All-Pro.
Hats off to the Bucs’ run defense — again — for stuffing the No. 2 rushing offense in the NFL.
Stick with Joe through the afternoon and evening for all kinds of takes and locker room quotes.

Biggers & Wright both covered well, & the front 7 was terrific (well, except for the Sam….). Th WRs made Josh look good, and Martin played like a first-rounder. Meredith seemed to be an upgrade at RG….Nice effort.
Now as to Mike ”Garo Yepremian” Koenen, he needs some coaching up.

Now THIS is how I envisioned the Bucs to play based on personnel! Attack deep with your receivers and then everything opens up. Icing on the cake was Blount getting his TD in the end. I’m simply ecstatic right now! There should now be no question as to what the team identity is. Go Bucs!!!!

Victory can cover a multitude of sins. We did not play a perfect game today and it will be a while before we do. But I like this team and I’m going to stick with them no matter what. There were errors and some bad plays and yes Freeman still has flaws, but today I’m going to overlook every one of them. Today I feel great!!!
Oh yes, Talib! We can play and win without you!!

Aqib who? Like I’ve been saying for a couple years now….. Talib will not be missed every time he’s suspended. Biggers is fine and has fed Barber with INTs at least twice now over the past two years (see ATL game last year). No double move huge gains for the KC WRs today. Blount proved he should still be getting more carries. Mike Will is showing what he can do when teams can’t blanket only him. David and Barron are fighting over who will be DROY. GMC healthy means even guys like Te-o’ Niesham will get sacks and pressure. Is there any trade value for Talib? People talk about Dom “busts”, but Talib was a first round pick that was a major mistake. Biggers (a 7th rounder) is showing that Talib (a 1st rounder) isn’t “All that”.

Very happy (a bit relieved) with this win & thrilled with how they won. I was listening & it sounded like Freeman was more comfortable in the spread type offense, but missed a a few routine throws that could have kept drives alive.

It’s been a long while since we’ve played a game like this. I think the most frightening thing is that the Chiefs are darn near our mirror image. Similar result in 2010, turmoil in 2011. I can’t tell if there’s a lot of untapped talent/poor coaching, or a team full of overrated players…but they looked A LOT like they way we played last year.
That all being said, we’ve seen 5 games of our defense playing extremely well. I’ve taken issue to the play-calling in a few of the games (Giants and ‘Skins, in particular), but the LBs are playing very well. The DL is stout against the rush. We’re thin in the secondary and have no pass-rush beyond Bennett and McCoy…but these guys are all playing hard.
On O, let Freeman be Freeman. His INT on the out to Clark was a terrible decision and he was still having some trouble w/accuracy and holds the ball too long w/o stepping up into the pocket, but you can’t force him to dink/dunk…let him use his arm to open up the field. Let the WRs make plays. Overall, the Sullivan opened it up today and it worked. It was great to see Nicks mauling people all day today. Both RBs looked good…need to work them into the game/rotation more.
All in all, a lot to build on…reason for fans to get their asses into the seats. What I saw on TV today- whole sections empty- was embarrassing.

BFJeff – let the negative be negative….. Freeman was not/is not perfect. He makes mistakes. But he has the ability to be incredible as well. Today he did extremely well. He ran when it was there. He hit the deep ball. Dumped it off when things weren’t there. Yeah, he threw a bad pass when we were in scoring range too. If the D keeps playing well (I think the pass D was even better with Biggers in there than with Talib so far…), Freeman should have a much easier time the rest of the year.
The Bucs are not even close to “out of it”. We have 2 games vs the Falcons. Win those and we pull within 1. Anthing goes then. Anyone wants to call the season over after 4 games, go ahead, but I’m behind these guys all the way to week 17!!!!!

Freeman had a great game…….but I’m not gonna call him a pro bowl stud just because of one great performance. The Chiefs are a horrible team, and I want to see Freeman beat a couple of decent teams and get some consistency going.

Freeman had a good statistical game against a weak defense. I’m still in his corner, but he has to work harder on correcting the flaws in his mechanics. Way too many misfires. A lot of the big yardage was because of great (Mike Williams) or lucky (Tiquan Underwood) plays by the receivers. They can’t count on that every week.

I think we found out who the Bucs are today…they are an attacking, deep vertical passing team that uses big plays to open up the run lanes and plays an opportunistic defense that bends, but does not break, and creates turnovers! V-Jax and Mike Williams are the best deep ball threats in the league and Freeman seems most comfortable throwing the deep ball and those back shoulder fades! GREAT WIN TODAY! GO BUCS!

Eric Wright basically shut down Dewayne Bowe for 3 quarters. Bowe got a lot of garbage stats in the 4th when the game was well over. Biggers and Wright was great in coverage and I can see Aquib getting the Ax after this season. If he is back it is for cheap and he will have to battle for a starting position.
Josh played will he held the ball long on that sack he took but he was 10 times better than he was in the beginning. Like the announcer said it looks like Josh was in sync with Sullivan and the play calls were really improved. I don’t care if Josh stinks up the place sometimes, but as long as there is positive improvements I can live with that.

FOR ALL YOU HATIN ON FREEMAN:
Freeman played lie a veteran today. He made some poor decisions but even great QBs do.
I have not liked Freeman these past few games but I LOVED the way he played today.
For all you who say that the receivers made him look good. That happens even for great QBs.
Go watch coach Schiano’s press conference, he said that many of the good plays were auibles made by JOSH FREEMAN!!
We just blewout a team that held the Ravens to 9 points.
We just held a rusing attack that was second in the league to crap.
No TDs on offense (this is for all you who said that we would suck b/c of the backup QB and our previous record against them)

I don’t understand the Taliban hate, yeah, Biggers did a good job today and he is serviceable, but don’t get it twisted, this was the chiefs and Brady Quinn. I think if there were games to serve the suspension, it’s definitely these four before we have to play the dirty birds and their big receivers. Taliban isn’t great, bout he definitely is not Stanford Rout or Brandon Flowers.

This was our best game since Seattle 2 years ago. We looked like a legitimate offense and defense (at the same time – what a concept!). I have absolutely nothing to complain about. We couldn’t have beaten Kansas State 38-10 last year. We are miles better, and we are only going to get better, even though we unfortunately don’t get to play KC every week.

Also, I thought the playcalling on offense was excellent. We ran some tosses and sweeps, and what do you know, they were very successful. The shots down the field opened up the running game, as well as the short and intermediate game, although Freeman seemed to struggle making those throws today. We never really got too conservative on offense, which kept KC from having any chance to mount a comeback. Great day to be a Bucs fan! New Orleans is going to be a tough one next Sunday though (hate playing teams coming off a bye week).
