Black Takes Slap At Former Position Coach
October 7th, 2012Who took over for Joe Barry and coached the Bucs linebackers the last two seasons?
That’s a reasonably tough trivia question. And the anwer is a guy that Quincy Black clearly didn’t think too highly of, Joe Baker. Black told Tampa Tribune scribe eye-RAH! Kaufman that he appreciates the change Bucs’ front-seven coach Bryan Cox has brought to the table this season.
“Coach Cox has a linebacker’s personality,” strongside linebacker Quincy Black said, “and that’s something we haven’t had around here for a couple of years.”
Hmm, it’s noteworthy to Joe that Black was voted by teammates as a Bucs captain last season yet, from this comment, was harboring a lack of respect for his position coach. There’s a lousy combination.
Black has hardly earned his gigantic contract this season (13 tackles) but he’s no longer a head-shake inducing liability.
It’s no surprise that Greg Schiano, a former college linebacker, has the Bucs linebackers performing far above the dreadful play the Bucs got at the position last season.

Black simply said that Cox had a linebacker’s personality and they hadn’t had a coach with a “linebacker’s personality” in a couple of years. He did not say that was a good thing or a bad thing. YOU are the one who drew the inference that Black did not think too highly of Joe Baker. Black did not state that.

Joe here,
@CyberDilemma — Yes, Joe is make the massive leap here. C’mon, dude. Not thinking your linebackers coach has adopted a linebackers personality is a problem.

“It’s no surprise that Greg Schiano, a former college linebacker, has the Bucs linebackers performing far above the dreadful play the Bucs got at the position last season.”
How do you make that conclusion from these quotes, ” Black told Tampa Tribune scribe eye-RAH! Kaufman that he appreciates the change Bucs’ front-seven coach Bryan Cox has brought to the table this season.”
“Coach Cox has a linebacker’s personality,” strongside linebacker Quincy Black said, “and that’s something we haven’t had around here for a couple of years.”
No disrespect but Schiano was a linebacker at Bucknell for 3 years while Cox was a 1st team All American college linebacker who played in the NFL for 11 years.
I would hope that when Cox holds a defensive meeting at the Buc Palace, that he would keep the door locked.
While the Little General takes a halftime siesta, there is no way Bryan Cox does not meet with his players and coordinator.

If the fans ofof Tampa Bay will give this head coach and coaching staff a chance they will turn this thing around and become a very good football team. Jimmie Johnson’s first year in Dallas and Troy Aikman together did not look good at all the first year. They were a 1-15 team. I think everything turned out pretty good for them.

Miguel, Schiano is responsible for everything, plus he handpicked Cox, who isn’t even the primary linebackers coach. Anyone who went to training camp can see that Schiano has a heavy hand on the LBs.

Nice picture of Cato June?

Hey Joe-
That’s Cato June, not Quincy Black.
October 7th, 2012 at 7:17 pm
S**t I forgot Quincy was even on the team.
Feel free to let your presence be known Mr. Black!!!
Quincy is like David Copperfield: He’s rolling in the dough and can make himself disappear (mostly on Sundays)!

I think more was made of the comment than was warranted.

Agreed, but it’s a slow news day for the Bucs. I appreciate the effort Joe!

Buccobruce
Miggie isn’t worth spending the money on. A better investment would be an “Ignore comments by…” button. Like they use to uave on the bucs message board.

I would say its to bad you don’t have a linebackers personality Black.

Cato June wore #59, believe that’s Black wearing #58 in the pic. I’ve commented before how poor the prior coaching staff was, especially Baker. He did a horrible job with the DB’s, and once Barry left they moved him to LB coach instead of finding a quality replacement. He was so highly thought of around the NFL that the only gig he could land was as an ASST. DB coach in Dallas.
