“Cowboys 27, Buccaneers 17”

September 22nd, 2012

Former NFL coach and personnel executive Pat Kirwan, a host on SiriusXM NFL Radio and a CBS-TV analyst, goes deep into the Bucs and Cowboys in this CBS Sports video.

Kirwan talks about the Bucs eventually ditching the “Alex Smith” plan for Josh Freeman, and about his belief that Greg Schiano was hypocritical last weekend, among many other topics. Kirwan expects the Cowboys to throw, throw and throw some more on Sunday.  Click below to enjoy.

    Boy, Kirwan sure has changed his tune as far Schiano goes. He doesn’t think much at all of the BUCS. Now I’m beginning to understand why he picked us to go 3-13.

  2. Colorado Buc Says:

    t’s fine, the underdog role is desirable to me. It would be great if we went in there scored a TD on our first drive, and then played smashmouth until the end. Run the ball on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Then every once in a while bomb it deep to Jax or Williams. Main point…ground and pound!

  3. Jbrooks Says:

    Well Colorado I have to disagree. That style of play is exactly what lost us the game last week and kept the week 1 game close. Score on the first drive then shut down and try to wait it out. Can’t beat good teams with that style of play. Gotta play 4 quarters not just 1 half.

    I agree with Kirwan about the Alex Smith style we have with Free but again that wont get you anywhere. Having a QB on roster who you don’t trust to play the position is only hurting the team. Gotta let Free go out and perform without holding him back. I think he has the talent and he definitely has the weapons.

  4. flmike Says:

    The first thing Parcells did when he took over the Jets in 1997 was to fire Pat Kirwan, that was the last job Kirwan held with an NFL franchise.

  5. OB Says:

    Other than the last play of the game and giving up 500+ yards passing, he did not have much to say except Josh is being babyed back. More about the Seahawks than the Bucs as usual. We are an after thought as present execpt to the teams we have played.

  6. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

    Personally, I’m tired of the attention the media is giving the Bucs. I think I’m just going to sit back and enjoy this season (even if we lose badly this week) and love my Bucs.

    Last week and this week are great. At first I thought having such tough games at the start of the season would be a bad thing…but now I like it. Even if we lose these games, as long as we are very competitive, the confidence and skill of our players is increasing…and so is the chemistry. If we compete with the very best, then the teams that are mid-range (most of the teams we face after the first quarter of the season) will be wins for us.

    I can live with that. I’m sticking with my 10-6 prediction.

  7. 1976Buc Says:

    It’s not going to be easy to beat the Cowboy’s at Home. They have some of the best fans in the NFL, evidenced by the attendance last year at Raymond James. I’m not so sure weren’t out numbered at that game. One thing for sure. If we have a lead at the half and have the meltdown we had last week it won’t be pretty.

  8. Paul Says:

    With all of the recent Bucs hate in the news, this feels like one of the biggest must-win games in a while.

  9. Bobby Says:

    This game is absolutely winnable. You can run on the Cowboys and if we can do that then play action will be gold. The D steps up this week and we win by 6 pts.

  10. Miguel Grande Says:

    I almost detected mirth in their tone addressing Coach Schiano. After most commentators were split about the kneel down for conversation sake, they took the time to actually watch the game and concluded that the Little General was full of crap about the whistle to whistle excuse.

    I don’t think anyone in the NFL, media or his peers are going to give coach any slack. Pretty soon, Leno and Letterman will be attacking him weekly. He’s an easy target.

  11. Bobby Says:

    These commentators are a lot like you Miguel, they talk a lot of BS and don’t make a lot of sense in what they say.

  12. flmike Says:

    Pat Kirwan was the player personnel man of the Pete Carroll/Rich Kotite era Jets, nuff said about his talent evaluation.

  13. Capt. Jean Lafitte Says:

    It appears Tampa bashing remains a national past-time for all these self important talking heads. The media constantly berates the Buc’s year in and year out. No wonder the Buc’s have an identity crisis. Prospective fans are turned off by all this negative press towards the Buc’s. Nobody wants to be a fan for a team that is constantly villainized by local and national media. There is a secret agenda and it’s been raring it’s ugly head. The media is a major catalyst that creates this image and turns-off future fan participation. Not, for the true Buc fans who have thick skins, but for the new prospects that have yet to make up their minds. It’s human nature that fans gravitate their allegiance toward teams that are supposed media darlings. If Schiano was the Giants, or Cowboys, or Patriots coach, he would be touted as the next Head Coach prodigy.

  14. Architek Says:

    The Cows can have 15 miserable losing seasons and people still admonish them. The Bucs are admist a rebuilding but have been a more winning franchise since the late 90s andyet this clown and talk trash about us. I love winning because his analysis is always scripted by the network. So if we win he has to do what his boss says and report how the mass media does. What a joke.

  15. flmike Says:

    @Architek, I work for a major sports website who also happens to employ many analysts like Kirwan, there is no editorial pressure or scripted analysis from the networks, well, other than the obviously staged debates they have on NFL Network, the analysts and writers voice their own opinions and analysis.

  16. Capt. Jean Lafitte Says:

    @Architek

    If the Buc’s win, they will hardly get the credit. You’ll hear people like Kirwan say it was because the Cowboys weren’t up for the challenge, or they were looking past Tampa. They’ll literally apologize for the Cowboys play, and somehow spin it how the Buc’s got lucky because the Boys only had 7 days to prepare.

  17. BigMacAttack Says:

    I’m sick Kirwashedup and refuse to watch him. I know what I think and what I want. Right now I don’t watch that jerkoff. Instead I’ll watch LSU.

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

    And Go Bucs!!!

  19. Architek Says:

    @flmike,
    You are right but what I mean is people naturally feel more comfortable not straying too far from the pack. In the media, people will apologize for Dallas play and refuse to call them quitters when they quit indeed on Wade Phillips, not to mention Red J (Garrett) undermining Wade. That should have shot all credibility from Dallas. Our coach make a legal but unorthodox play all that doesn’t follow the NFL general public and now he’s unworthy. The media now coincidentally leaks reports of Schiano uninviting personality with some execs. You’re right flmike the analysis maybe unscripted but the thought and behavior patterns are. Great post btw…

  20. Architek Says:

    Capt. Jean if we win we will still get tabbed as underdog against any popular teams. If we do win, we will significantly cripple Dallas chances to make the playoffs with their schedule. But somehow analysts will excuse their faior

  21. flmike Says:

    @Architek
    Thx, and yes there is definitely a follow the heard mentality, there’s safety in numbers. Also, this is a business which feeds many businesses below, two being the sports and fantasy media, which completely rely upon it for product and content, and for access to that product and content. The media has to give the majority of its coverage to the bigger names as they draw the most attention, it’s just a fact of demographics, for whatever reason, the Cowboys are a popular team not only in Texas but nationally, so they have to be given their time.

  22. BigMacAttack Says:

    Now I’m watching FSU and still don’t give damn watch Pat Kir-mudgeon thinks. I can’t stand that guy.

  23. BigMacAttack Says:

    The Cowboys suck

  24. Kyle Says:

    I respect writers/analysts opinions but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with them. I love this team and its coach and could care less what someone in the national media thinks. This is our team and we support them so that’s all matters.

  25. Ali Says:

    you think he’d spring for a better microphone than some 20 year dollar walmart one
