No Takers For Preston Parker?
September 20th, 2012The jettisoning of Preston Parker today is quite intriguing. Parker is young (25), and had an inexpensive contract, a rather fresh extension through the 2013 season.
And Parker is coming off a 2011 season in which he had 40 catches, three touchdowns and was one of the more reliable targets in the NFL on third down.
Joe gets that Parker didn’t fit into the New Schiano Order after fumbling away his special teams value, and that the organization likely is higher on Jordan Shipley (55 catches in 2010), but Joe’s a bit surprised that the Bucs couldn’t find a taker willing to part with a seventh-round pick for Parker.
Joe suspects Parker will have a job real soon, regardless. And Sammie Stroughter might want to get back on the field immedately to secure his job. The Bucs now have six receivers on the roster, one more than they had on opening day.
As time passses, Joe suspects he’ll remember Parker most for explaining how missing barbecue sauce at KFC helped change his life.

Perhaps he doesn’t do as well in the new system.

He was an undrafted free agent who has not really done much except have a lot of fumbles and a decent year on 3rd downs. I believe he had what, a little over 300+ yards for his best year? I dont think anyone is going to give up a pick for that. I wouldnt.

The Bucs have probably just taken their player advice from Joe Maddon:
Have the best matchups on the team for each game, even if you lose some guys after you cut them.
So many people have been cut and resigned so far this year, it is getting a little ridiculous.

wait till next year, there will be tremendous roster turnover next year.

WHEN THE ATTITUDE IS BIGGER THAN THE PRODUCTION YER OUTTA HERE!

I don’t know why they cut Underwood in the first place, and kept Parker.

Another player added to the long list of Bucs who start out well, but never develop, or even regress.

Dumb move dumping Parker. WE got rid of a guy who can play for a guy in Underwood we think can play.
September 20th, 2012 at 2:16 pm
Has to be an issue behind the scenes here. Parker screwed up something big time. Underwood is solid but by no means is he an upgrade. I wouldnt expect much from him. What is everyone so fired up about Underwood for? He didnt even get picked up by another team.

Sorry to be at Parker’s expense, but I am glad to see Underwood getting a shot.
He could this offense stretch the field. (So long as Freeman can deliver)

Glad Parker is gone. Really didn’t offer much.

it seems like Parker has a lot of supporters on this site. but let’s look honestly at his PRODUCTION… By no means was it elite couple that with ball security issues and the risk simply does not out way the reward. i am not sure Underwood is the answer but it does not hurt to tweak the roster with NON-Impact players such as Parker. I am not sold on Shipley either. UT Players can’t stay healthy. Sure it put up numbers with his Girlfriend McCoy at UT but they played in a very poor conference. I am glad this staff and Dominick are at least willing to keep tweaking the roster until they find some good chemistry or maybe that rare gem that has been overlooked. I must admit I’d like to see Underwood and Jackson on the outside with Williams in the slot.

Preston Parker is not really a Schiano type of guy.
Underwood and Shipley are. Bottom line.
Prestons attitude must of shown recently. Coach is tired of his vibe.
So, goodbye!

Now if they could just find someone to replace Lewis.
September 20th, 2012 at 5:12 pm
why is Benn still on the team?
September 20th, 2012 at 5:32 pm
Parker was a looter in a riot last year
September 20th, 2012 at 5:46 pm
Every other team has their own Parkers at the bottom of the roster or on the practice squad. And even more are available as free agents.
Why would he be worth a 7th rounder to another team – when he’s not even worth a roster spot on this team?
Name the team who could use him – and NEED him to the point of giving up a draft pick for him. There’s only 31.
It doesn’t matter what his performance stats were last year. What does he being to the table on the field NOW?
How fast does he run? How high can he jump? How much of the route tree can he do? How does he run block? Can he do a chip block? How are his catching skills? Special teams skills? Ability to beat press coverage? Ability to read defenses? Ability to get open? How coachable? Et cetera.
He might get some looks from other teams, but that doesn’t mean those teams would have given up a draft pick for him.

Bucfan20,
They do, Biggers is coming back. He may not be the best but he is a lot better than Lewis.

Raheem probably wasn’t able to convince Mike Shanahan to bring Parker up to Washington.
