Preston Parker Cut; Tiquan Underwood Signed

OK, Joe for weeks couldn’t understand why the Bucs cut wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, who performed well if not solidly through training camp and preseason games.
Well, it seems Bucs rock star general manager has agrees. Underwood was re-signed by the Bucs this morning, which helps the Bucs stretch the field. However, to make room for Underwood, the Bucs waved goodbye to to Preston Parker, per the Bucs official Twitter feed.
@TBBuccaneers: The Bucs have brought back WR Tiquan Underwood. To make room on the roster, the team released WR Preston Parker.
While a decent slot receiver, Parker had secured a spot on the roster the past couple of season because of his special teams talents. But this season, Parker put the ball on the ground on returns, a mortal sin in the New Schiano Order.
In Joe’s eyes, this is good news for the Bucs offense.

Preston already lost his return duties and he was all but invisible in the passing game. It will be interesting to see if Underwood’s preseason translates to the regular season.
Maybe this pickup and the Shipley show that the coaches are trying to open up the offense a bit with more capable receivers than Stroughter and Parker.

Preston hasn’t been right since signing a new contract. I bet there is a lot more to this story yet to be heard.

Underwood had a great camp, let’s see if Freeman can get him the ball.
Time for our Tower of a QB to start playing better.
6’6”, 250 lbs., Strong arm, but does he have the brain to be a good QB?
Shipley and Underwood should help figure that much out.
Time to shine Freeman. We traded up in the 1st round for you, show the Tampa Bay fans what you are made of.

$5 says that Underwood scores a TD in his first game back.
Can’t wait to see the O run right at Mo Claibourne.
I imagine our DB coach will give some insight on what to do to Morris Claibourne: run right at him, make him try to tackle, and ask him questions about the wonderlic.

They should have never cut him in the first place, he did everything he was asked to do. I’m glad he’s back.

Can’t believe it took this long! He deserves a spot on this roster.I just wish we cut Myron”the nightmare” Lewis instead!!!!Bravo Dom! next move…..aquire a corner who can acutally play! fingers crossed…Mike Jenkins!

I love this move, I was baffled by Parker staying and Tiquan being cut. This certainly helps stretch the field!!!
I think he will make an imediate impact starting this weekend!! Great news…sorry Preston!

yeah double P was an excellent third option of Freemans last season the guy found a way to get open and grab most of the check down stuff basically the message is don’t put the ball on the turf or drop passes on third and short if your the last option in the play called. Bellicheat pretends to be Freud and has most convinced he is yet it has become obvious he is more of a checker player the one who should be playing chess I say that to say this I hope these moves are not be made through emotion because this game is chess not checkers

in the NFL speed kills, and i thought TU looked faster that PP. or maybe he just plays the game faster. either way this is great news for V-Jax and MW19. now #5 has to start looking to use his legs, i feel he should run a few or scheme for a run with the big guy. if he runs just 5 times a game (and not out of distress) then that will cause the D to look in on him and give our WRs time to separate. no matter how you slice it SPEED KILLS………… BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another head scratcher. I agree, He had a bad pre-season and has been invisible through 2 games so far… but its only been 2 games. They gave up awfully fast on this guy who was a stud on 3rd downs for us last year. I just hope they know what there doing. And all of you who are so excited we got Underwood back…. just dont get your hopes up. Yea he looked great in pre-season but regular season is a whole new ball game. Dont be surprised if he does not get any looks the first couple games.

Happy with the move but not sure any receiver beyond Jackson and Williams will have much impact whatsoever. Dallas Clark is starting to emerge and Shiano is convinced that Martin is Ray Rice already…which is a mistake. The offense just isn’t dynamic enough to include a 3rd receiver and arguably the best offensive weapon is in the doghouse. If he wasn’t used with a 14 point lead to help close out a game….when will he ever? Rant over 🙂

Speed kills. If you can put VJax and Tiq on the field at the same time – that’s trouble for defenses. Throw in Williams and\or Benn in 3 and 4 wide sets, we’ll kill that all day against backup DB’s.

Anyone else notice that Parker stopped short on his route this weekend when Freeman was picked off. Gave up on the crossing route. I agree with everyone else about Underwood…..I think that play was the last straw. I told several people around me that he was gone after that play.
That play cost us the game/momentum.

Here’s what I think, if anyone cares (and if they do I’m surprised)…I think you may be right. I think Underwood has potential and he would make a great story if he did really well. I’ll be rooting for him big time. But I also think he’s depth and not much more, in fact I would say he’s currently expendable at the rate the Bucs are dumping and signing players.
I remember Parris Warren and a ton of other WRs who did well in preseason and it never translated to the regular season. In the case of Parris maybe his injury played the major role, but we’ve seen many examples here in Tampa.
So, although I am excited that he’ll get a chance to prove himself, I’m not gonna say he’s great until he proves it.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have him on the right side and Williams in the middle? That would change up some peoples defensive plans.

I thought Underwood looked like a man possessed during the preseason.
Parker looked complacent.
Parker was also a real jerk to me on Twitter. So I saw his heart a bit.
I think Schiano want the right vibe with this team.
And Shipley and Underwood are two interesting, hardworkin dudes.

Glad to see him back. After the last pick I know he won’t make that mistake again. I also wonder if this had to do with special teams and some of the returns the Giants had. Will they use him there.

What I can tell from all this is the bucs roster is very very much up in the air still and no 1 is secure except for maybe a few..

Nice back tracking Rock Star. Underwood should not have been cut in the first place. I have never seen Parker make any consistent plays to warrant keeping him. The Bucs need draft or pick up another #1 or 2 receiver next year. They have a # 1, 2 and a bunch of three’s. If Jackson or Williams is out for any length of time the Bucs are screwed.
