“When Things Don’t Add Up, You Keep Digging”

September 12th, 2012

Update, 4:34 p.m.: The official injury report says Blount has a neck injury.

Update, 7:00 p.m.:  The Tampa Bay Times is reporting Blount is cleared to play and will practice tomorrow.

Greg Schiano dumped cold water on various theories surrounding LeGarrette Blount’s attitude and work ethic.

Schiano said at his news conference that Blount has been a “good” worker. “There haven’t been any problems with LeGarrette,” Schiano said. “He’s a team guy.”

Schiano also said Blount’s medical issues being explored are simply the result of team doctors looking for answers. Blount was scheduled for MRI tests today.

“When things don’t add up, you keep digging,” Schiano said.

We should all wish this guy the best. Im sure he’s been playing his ass off. Noone ever wants to see anyone go down with a serious injury.

  2. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I believe Schiano on this one. If he truly took him out because he didn’t block well, he would have taken him out immediately and not gave him another carry (and I believe if I remember correctly he caught a pass after the poor block as well). I think Schiano saw what we all saw – a player go down in a very weird way, and didn’t want to chance anything. I would assume most football players always try to say they are ok so they can get back in, but as a staff you have to look out for them. I feel much better about this situation today then I did yesterday.

    Joe,

Has Blount been around One Buc? Are there only certain days media can talk to players? Just wondering why no one has asked Blount himself what is going on, why he bolted out of the stadium, etc.

  4. Mbaby Says:

I remember seen Schiano getting on Blount for not hitting the hole 2 plays before he had gotten hurt

  5. Mbaby Says:

I seen this tweet that he sent 2 Doug.http://pics.lockerz.com/s/242980613

  6. 1976Buc Says:

The block in question on a scale of A-F was a C+. It was not poor or Freeman would never get the pass off. Could it be better? Absolutely and that’s what Schiano was doing. If Blount had this coaching for the past 2 years my opinion is we would be seeing a much improved Blount. All this is great news.

  7. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Maybe after what happened to his player in college Schiano is reluctant to take chances? I hope he’s okay.

I do think Schiano is the kind of coach that would tell us he’s going to play Blount less until his blocking develops.

  8. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Wonder if he has the same injury Lynch did? If so it could mean surgery, right?

  9. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Stinger was the injury back then wasn’t it?

  10. ScottyinFatAntonio Says:

Sounds like he “found the open hole” when he “bolted” off the field to the locker room and again “found the open hole and “bolted” out of the stadium. Funny how the neck wasn’t bothering him then to have that kind of movement. In all seriousness though, I hope he is ok and gets back on the field soon.

  11. milos81 Says:

That was a scary thing to see, what happened to Blount. It just did not look like a “normal” injury.

    Get well, man.

  12. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

You never know with a neck injury. Hopefully its nothing too serious. Any more details Joe?

  13. Scott Says:

Am I the only one that thought it was some kind of nerve or neck injury when it happened? It looked like he was having spasms as he tried to get up. I was shocked he wasn’t taken off on a stretcher after seeing how his legs were twitching and the way he seemed to have trouble with one side of his body.

  14. Jbrooks Says:

I’m glad Schiano came out and said something about Blounts attitude. I have never been on the Blount hate wagon and I think he’s been nothing but good for the team. I haven’t heard of any attitude problems with the guy since he came to the franchise and have been a little annoyed by some media and some fans when they call into question his attitude without any real reason to. Also I just feel the trade talk is kind of baseless seeing as though he hasn’t had amazing stats and he just had a neck and back MRI. Not much trade value if you ask me but everyday I see new speculation about him not being in Tampa for long. I hope we keep him because I believe he is a good running back and adds another threat for the Bucs.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell.
Exactly what I said in the other thread

Update on L. Blount: His injury has been diagnosed as a stinger. GM Mark Dominik says Blount is fine & will be available to practice Thurs.

  16. Rican Says:

Lololololololol somehow my Facebook comment ended up in that comment sorry

  17. kh Says:

Stingers hurt like a bitch, had one when I played in HS and it really was debilitating. Goes away after a while but the pain that shoots through your body when they get aggravated is excruciating.

  18. milos81 Says:

Yeah, I never played football, but I got a stinger once playing basketball (I nailed my shoulder on another player’s shoulder setting a pick). It was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before – I couldn’t move my arm, it was numb and paralyzed for about half an hour, then as I started to get feeling back I couldn’t lift it up high enough to shoot the damn ball.

And I imagine that’s nothing compared to a football stinger.

  19. Rican Says:

Especially a stinger in the neck region.

  20. kh Says:

Ya, mine was in my neck, hurt like crap. Didn’t last more than a few weeks though. A stinger doesn’t really explain his unusual dance after that run to me but anyways…

  21. Rican Says:

Well if it caused temporary chaos within his spinal nerves I think that makes the most sense. It’s like he couldn’t control his body.

  22. bucfan in fort meade Says:

Hope he is ok. Blount is a special kind of running back, after all he’s done since he got here, Can’t believe some of you twits on here don’t see that.

    dominic said,
“He felt a stinger and it just made us nervous the way he felt it,” Dominik said Wedneday. “That’s part of the reason you saw what you saw because he lost some strength. That makes us obviously very nervous about our players. And so that’s why we took it real serious about MRIs and had him go see a specialist out of state.

“He’s back tonight and he’ll be on the field tomorrow and ready to go.”

  24. Josh Says:

My sources tell me he was told to get out of the stadium to avoid questioning because they were worried what he might say. My sources are the voices in my head…

  25. Sneedy16 Says:

I see they really care about there players.
