THE PESSIMIST: Picking Against The Bucs

THE PESSIMIST is a diehard Bucs fan whose negative writings have appeared previously on JoeBucsFan.com. THE PESSMIST is rarely happy, but he is happy to return to these pages for the 2012 season. His views surely do not necessarily reflect those of Joe. But Joe sure gets a kick out of them.
THE PESSMIST can’t find one allegedly knowledgeable person picking the Bucs to win Sunday. Not Vegas. Not a genius national talking head.
Somehow all these idiots think Carolina off a 6-10 season is a stone cold road lock Sunday. What a bunch of crap.
So Cam Newton can run to daylight and he racked up gargantuan numbers — twice — against the December 2011 Buccaneers to pad his stats. That was the worst defense of the modern era. Steve Smith is old. Defenses will catch up to Newton. And the Panthers defense still sucks. Let’s see Luke Kuechly play a game before he gets the Rookie of the Year trophy.
But perhaps these pundits also take a look at the Bucs and are confused. Maybe they see Quincy Black, Roy Miller, Mason Foster and wonder why, why, why these guys have the same jobs in 2012.
Maybe they see Josh Freeman needing time to bounce back to 2010 form with new targets, a new playbook and new coaches and little from the preseason to get them excited. Crap, there’s not even enough local excitement to sell out one damn game with seven months of sales effort since Greg Schiano was hired, despite a bunch of gameday perks and big money and free agents.
THE PESSIMIST has little belief in the Bucs for Sunday, either. Just how the Rutgers defense looks in the NFL and how Mike Sullivan runs an offense are complete mysteries, let alone how Doug Martin might lead a run-first team.
Smart money doesn’t wager on hope.

If you are picking the Bucs then you’re being a homer and that’s ok. Unfortunately the Panthers will win convincingly. I do think that the Bucs will manage to keep it respectable most of the game.

I prefer us to be the under dogs. If they expect us to lose and we win, we get more recognition. If we lose, then we really havent lost anything. I want everyone to disrespect us, maybe that will just fire our team up even more. GO BUCS!!

The Pessimist is obviously not a bettor. The line opened at Carolina -3; it’s now -1. All the early money went on the Buccaneers. Not saying they are going to win, but the sharp players think they should not be the underdog.

Predictions are worthless and are nothing but pure chance. A guy who picks twelve or thirteen games correctly this week will only get seven or eight right next week. And on and on it goes…where the train of idiocy stops nobody knows.

Home dogs win. It’s just that simple. Schiano and Sheridan will dial up a series of blitzes like the Panthers have never seen. Basically, all we have to do is rattle Newton, Williams, and Smith. Chalk this one up as a win for the Bucs.

If you rattle Newton and force him out of the pocket, it may work against the Bucs. Better to hobble GMC and have him contain Cam in the pocket, put some pressure in his face and make him complete conventional passes.
Geraldini loves to blow dramatically past his blocker and take himself out of the play. He never looks so helpless as when he is trying to catch a QB from behind. I believe in the Titan game we saw that.

Nothing that the Panthers did in the pre-season lead me to believe that they are any better team than we are. I see a close game that could go either way.
Therefore I will pick the Bucs by 6. We have a better kicking game and that may be the difference. They have Stewart and Williams. We have Martin and Blount. They have 5’10” Steve Smith and we have 6’5″ V-Jax. We also have Mike Williams and Benn, I give us the edge there. As far as Defenses…I like the way our starting D played all pre-season, especially against New England. I would say we have some surprises for the Panthers. I like our chances.
