I’ve been wrong before and lived through it, so if I error I’d rather it be on the side of optimism.
I will be satisfied with 7 or more games but I think there is a good chance we go 10 or more (which I picked). New coach shine, new attitude and better coaching, along with other teams not knowing what to expect at first…and other teams having unpredictable problems of their own will bring better results than most expect.
Let’s just see some competitive football where the team isn’t down by 3 TD’S before halftime. This season should be about the growth and development of the young players, anything over 6 wins should be considered a success.
All these low predictions…I just don’t get it. We really don’t know how we’ll “stack up” against other teams. Why? Because we haven’t seen the new offense OR the new defense very much.
We’ve only seen glimpses. For example…seeing Freeman forcing the ball a lot to Vincent Jackson was to force development of chemistry and to put teams on notice that Freeman will throw a lot to Jackson so they expect it…which will open up the other guys.
On defense the few glimpses we’ve seen were showing a highly aggressive and hard hitting defense.
BUT…we really only saw one game of exposure and that was to a very basic game plan. Schiano wasn’t going to shoot his load before the regular season. The other games we saw were mostly backups and a very dummied-down playbook.
So to say we don’t measure up…to me that’s just not realistic. To be positive we are justified because we saw glimpses of what is to come…and it is good.
Pete, the reason for the low predictions is that a young inexperienced team with absolutely no talented depth and with a new head coach who came from a small-time college program and an offensive coordinator who’s never called a play in his life and a majority of position coaches who came from the college ranks cannot be expected to just start setting the NFL world on fire. It just doesn’t happen that way. Never has, never will.
And before you go using the 49ers as an example, Jim Harbaugh played an entire career as an NFL quarterback. He also came from a big-time college program. Lastly, and most importantly, he inherited a ton of talent that was just being miscoached by Mike Singletary. We have some talent, but not a ton. Where’s our Vernon Davis? Where’s our dominating defensive line like they have? Where’s everything else he inherited? These Bucs are nothing whatsoever like those 49ers when he took over.
6 wins, Write it down. Coach Schiano really has 2 things working against him this year. 1 is a tough schedule. 2 is the “rock star’s” roster. Coach will need to do a little more weeding out next year.
Positives: 27th toughest schedule. Explosive offensive weapons. Young unproven studs on offense and defense.
Negatives: New systems. Zero depth on the lines. Tough opening quarter of the season. Key starters with injury/production concerns. College head coach. Inconsistent QB.
Dutcher once again u hit it on the head, listen people we have a win now offence and a d-fence we really know nothing about except they did a great job vs. a vannila Tom Brady attack, hey it was still a Tom Brady attack. So come on buc fans support your team hardcore until atleast proven wrong.
If Freeman starts to really get the offence and plays lights out we will be a playoff team no one once to see in the playoffs.11-5 and super bowl bound.
7-8 Win season. I am very concerned w/ our lack of depth on both lines. If we stay healthy, we could sqeeze out a winning season. We have talent, but the lines are very shaky and I don’t know which way Freeman goes.
Hey I would love to sit here and tell you that we are going to win 13 games, our division and go to the super bowl. But realistically I cant… Things like the 9’ers success last year just doesnt happen often. It would be great if it did and I would gladly admit I was wrong but theres just no way we get over a .500 record this year. The future looks bright but it will take some time. If you are expecting more wins then you are setting yourself up for failure and will be bitching at the end of the year about how bad we suck… We need patience, this will take some time.
I think we all should stop for a moment and compare this team to the 2009 team. THAT team I had ZERO expectations for them. 3-13 was about where I thought they would be. Think of how much better this 2012 team is then the 2009 team. Yes we have our weaknesses and yes we lack depth in some important spots. Every team in the league has their faults and things that can be exploited. It’s about how well can you hide them. I think the Bucs are a middle of the pack team. So my unbiased opinion says 8-8. Biased opinion says 11-5. I believe in my bucs!
9-7 the schedule is easy.Last year’s schedule was brutal (I mean add the record’s up that might have been the toughest sched ever)It is possible our passing attack takes off with v-jax streaching the field William’s benn parker running free over the middle Clark the checkdown and Martin in the flat it is possible.the running game could take off.It would’nt be a huge streatch to say we could have a top 10 running game.I expect Freeman to run alot more than most people like 600 yard’s and 7 rushing TD’s.The Defence just need’s to make play’s when they have to like they did in 2010.They are gunna be somewhere between 20-32 ranked defence so we need to win the turnover battle.
I am hoping for at least 5 wins but the way Freeman looked in preseason and looking over the types of defenses he will face this season adds up to be a bad combination for the Bucs…. IMO!

I’m in the 7-8 range. Anything more than that will be a very surprising season.
Let’s play some meaningful games in November, and I’ll be happy

Count me in the 5 wins group. We just don’t stack up to other team well enough.

I’m at 8-9. I picked 9 and really hope we end up a full season highlight reel.

Come on buc fans lets have some faith.
September 4th, 2012 at 10:53 am
Seven wins would be a very successful debut by Schiano.

I picked 7, anything less than that would be a disappointment unless we have major injuries. But there is enough talent here to win atleast 7.
