Bucs Target Receivers On Practice Squad
September 3rd, 2012Update, 12:01 p.m.: Here’s where the Bucs practice squad stands afer more shuffling. T Bradley Sowell, LB Jacob Cutrera, TE Drake Dunsmore, WR Dale Moss, WR Bert Reed, LB J.K. Schaffer, QB Adam Weber and DE Markus White.
The Bucs likely will announce their eight-man practice squad later today, but NFL.com has served up five names on its practice-squad tracker that are your newest Buccaneers.
Joe finds it very intriguing that the New Schiano Order has gone after two wide receivers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
TE Drake Dunsmore, OL Brian Folkerts, WR Dale Moss, WR Bert Reed, QB Adam Weber.
The quarterback, Weber, was on the Broncos practice squad in 2011 after being undrafted out of the University of Minnesota, and he was in camp with Peyton Manning this season.
Moss is an interesting rookie project, a former basketball player who was released by the Packers, per ProFootballTalk.com.
Moss, the South Dakota State receiver, will be a player to follow in Packers camp. A four-year basketball player for the Jackrabbits, Moss used his extra year of eligibility to play football. He wound up leading South Dakota State in catches, yards, and touchdowns in 2011.
Moss stands 6-foot-3, 213 and ran a 4.52 at the South Dakota Pro Day. More impressive were Moss’ explosive, 10-foot-10 broad jump, 41 1/2-inch vertical, and 4.13 short shuttle. He is an exceptional athlete.
Reed was the fifth all-time receiver at Florida State (164 receptions) and landed undrafted to the Browns, who actually featured him on their website this summer. In a Florida panhandle TV interview this weekend, Reed said he was a Bucs fan as a kid in Panama City. Check out the video below:

I like b-ball players that convert to WRs. There is good history there.
For the quarterback, being in camp with manning isn’t an advantage.

Hmm.. Bears waive DT Brian Price. Maybe this Dominique guy knows something about evaluating football players.

You guys are missing the boat on the real talent here, Dale Moss. The guy is an athletic freak. Check out this write-up from his pro day:
During the South Dakota State pro-day receiver Dale Moss certainly met, and even exceeded expectations. Moss measured 6 feet, 3.5 inches and 213 pounds, posted a vertical jump of 41.5 inches and broad jump of 10 feet, 10 inches. His forty time clocked at 4.45 seconds then Moss ran an amazingly fast three cone time of 6.32 seconds and 60 yard shuttle of 10.82 seconds. One scout at the workout mentioned in seven years of attending pro day and combine workouts Moss’ three cone time was the fastest he’s witnessed. Moss was then run through about a dozen pass routes and asked to catch the ball.
What makes this story so intriguing is Moss was a member of the SDSU basketball team and never played college football until 2011. In his first and only season on the football field with the Jackrabbits he led the team in receiving with 61 receptions for 949 receiving yards and six touchdowns and Moss started just nine of 11 games. His upside is enormous and Moss worked his way into the draft’s final day with his performance today.

Ah… Larry Brackins. There’s a name we haven’t heard in a while. Great analogy Ben. Hopefully Moss’ story has a better ending.

I went to school at South Dakota State. Dale Moss is the real deal. Great BBall player, could jump out of the building (Exciting Dunks Galore). Even more exceptional football player. He goes up and gets the ball at the highest point (BBall rebounding). 4.52 40 time is misleading, great “football” speed. Could outrun any defender, saw him take it the distance on slant routes many-a-time. Couldn’t be happier that he landed with the Bucs.

Freeman better watch out Weber is good.he should at least win the back up job.

Yeah……sign a receiver when we just cut one who outperformed our other receivers (Tiquan Underwood). That move made no sense. He deserved a spot more than several other players who are still on the roster.
