Mossis Madu, Larry Asante Cut

August 30th, 2012

After rumors, innuendo and people trying to connect dots from Twitter messages between Bucs players during dinner, it seems we finally have some definitive word on the fates of two Bucs players.

Bucs running back Mossis Madu is no longer a member of the Bucs, so reports Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times.

Larry Asante, as first reported by Rotoworld.com, is also on the outside of One Buc Palace looking in.

Now Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and coach Greg Schiano must find 20 other players to cut to come down to the league required 53 players by 9 p.m. Friday.

UPDATE: It appears defensive tackle Frank Okam has also been released. On his Twitter account, he is thanking people for wishing him good luck with his next team.

I can’t understand why Myron Lewis is not the first guy to be cut. What an embarrassment

  2. Vic Says:

Dude, they’re could have been 20 guys cut already. Just no announcements from the team yet

  3. Brad Says:

The cuts should be easy. 99% of the dudes that played last night.

  4. NJBucsFan Says:

    I’m flabbergasted….

  5. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I’m a little surprised these 2 were the first announced cuts. Not that I thought they would or should make it, but I can think of at least 20 players that should be cut before them.

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

I think sometimes they will release good players early as a courtesy in hopes they may get signed by another team. Raheem has probably been on the phone with both of them since their release.

The Bucs have not announced any cuts. Just by old fashioned gumshoe journalism it was learned Asante and Madu were cut.

  8. Stranger Says:

I doubt that Big. Washington has a lot of runningbacks already and Asante hasn’t been anything special.

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Even those who make the 53 tomorrow are not safe. Got a feeling there’s going to be several that make it, but are released almost immediately.

  10. lurker Says:

wow, okam gone now too! shazam.

  11. aj Says:

It makes sense to let the guys go a day early, since the Bucs had the opportunity to play last night. Means tomorrow they can focus completely on who everyone else is releasing, and who might be the best fit to bring aboard.

  12. Nate Says:

I still think we should trade benn for a decent offensive lineman or dlineman..

  13. aj Says:

Benn has no trade value. Someone else has to want to guy for you to get anything in return.

  14. Patrick Says:

    @Nate

I understand your point. Although if we did that, it will be yet another bust in the books for Dominick.

But I would hate to see guys like Underwood, Stroughter, or Parker cut just because of Benn who has done nothing so far except be sidelined. I really don’t want to get rid of Benn at all…..unfortunately you can only keep 53 players. And with the fragility and lack of depth on our D-line, I don’t see us keeping all these receivers.

  15. HIghNtight Says:

Benn WILL NOT be cut! Don’t you guys listen to Schiano’s pressers? I think that’s the only thing he DID say (somewhat)definitively. Jackson, Williams, Parker, and Benn stay for sure, everyone else is vying for probably 2 more WR spots. I think Stroughter and Shipley stay as well.

  16. Mr Lucky Says:

After the way the Bucs played the Redskins I’d just cut everyone who was on the field on the offense.

  17. Architek Says:

The Bucs lack of depth is also a marker for Dominiks tenure as GM now with the 5th highest salary. All signs indicate that hes been average overall to decent.

I am glad Okam is gone. Lewis should next and many others.

  18. JSmalls Says:

You mean Shiano and Butch have to decide the next 20 cuts.

  19. teacherman777 Says:

We need to go sign CB Cliff Harris.

Phlly just cut him. But he could be great. He looked like a first rounder before getting expelled from Oregon.

He has looked good all preseason but Philly has too deep of a defensive backfield to keep him.

He could be a great CB one day. Just watch.

  20. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Called these cuts a while back. ESPECIALLY Okam. Called Madu as being cut last week.

This is kind of exciting…we finally get to see our new Bucs!

  21. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

I think Shipley will be cut.

Underwood had to make this team. He’s done nothing BUT prove himself.
