“Fighting’s A Waste Of Time”

August 3rd, 2012

Bill Belicheat and Greg Schiano are on different pages when it comes to training camp fights.

Bill Belicheat might be Greg Schiano’s mentor, but they have different opinions when it comes to fighting.

Yesterday, Belicheat was upbeat about training camp fights, per ProFootballTalk.com.

But after today’s training camp collision involving Myron Lewis and a camp body on offense, Schiano took to the WDAE-AM 620 airwaves and had an intolerant tone about potential fighting and guys potentially getting injured.

“Fighting’s a waste of time,” Schiano said. “We don’t need to fight. No. 1, you can get hurt. No. 2, when you’re fighting, you’re not practicing.”

Co-host Ian Beckles, a former Bucs guard, reminded listeners that fighting was not permitted under Tony Dungy, who, per Beckles, would stop practice if a fight occurred.

Joe will have more later from Day 7 of training camp.

Lmao “When your fighting, your not practicing”

I love that. This guy is great… in just a few months he’s said more meaningful things that hit home than Rah said in the whole 3 years he was here. This team is going to be primed to prove all the doubters wrong. In a pole on ESPN asking who was going to win the NFC South. 34% predicted the Falcons, 31% predicted the Saints and an unbelieveable 27% predicted the Kitty cats! only 9% predicted the Bucs… This team is gonna surprise a lot of people this year. I hope we smash the Panthers in the season opener.

@ silence……as if I didn’t need to be any more pumped LOL

anyone in S FL want to go to the Miami game next week?

Glad to see Myron is fighting for something.

Time to earn your spot on this roster.

Interesting abou Schiano’s take on fighting.

I like Dungy’s approach to fighting, too. No need for it, and it takes away from basic discipline.

However, I am pleased to see that our team is practicing with intensity and urgency.

Time to get off the 10 in a row losing train.

I like the intensity, too, but agree with Coach that it’s a waste of valuable time. I think it also creates a tendency for it to happen in the game, leading to unnecessary penalties, which we had plenty of, last year. Seems like Coach is striking a good balance.

Now that 98.7 is on the air I’m done with anything Ian has to say. I don’t care about being critical of the team when the season is going on but too be so damn critical and negative now when it’s time to be optimistic about our team is just ridiculous IMO. I’m pumped for the new season, the new staff, the new members both in FA and the draft. Everyone will have plenty of time to bitc! And complain later. Now is not the time. Thank God we have different local
sports talk to listen too especially during 9-12. Let’s see how long those ratings stay high. It was easy when there was no competetion. The commish is in the house. No more variety shows for me. On a side note.. I love Schiano so far. I say this team would have been 100% improved by just changing the coaching staff and ushering in a new regime with discipline and no non sense.

I’m sorry. I just can’t get into 98.7 I’ve listening to every host I’ll listen to the commish during commercials of ron and ian. But the rest of it is all noise in my opinion. I enjoyed going from ron and ian to the commish to jp’s show. Speaking of, does anyone know what happen to jp? I wonder why they didn’t pick up his show. Also i miss hearing toby.
