Less Reading Is Good For Quincy Black

The man Joe and many other fans expect nothing from this season, Quincy Black, seems to be working on an epic resurrection.
Black prefers his role in the New Schiano Order defense and he’s been making plays throughout training camp. The leader of the New Schiano Order even gave a post-practice pat on the back to Quincy Black before the local media corps today. WDAE-AM 620 Bucs beat writer Tom Krasniqi documents Black’s feelings and much more from today’s camp session.
Strongside LB Quincy Black struggled mightily last season, but seems to be more comfortable in this defense. “It’s more attacking…it’s not as much read. It’s like get up and go and everything else falls in place”, says Black. At one point during Monday’s practice, Black laid a hit on WR Vincent Jackson on a bubble screen. He’s made a couple of eye-opening plays so far in camp.
What a bonus it would be for the Bucs if Black can make some plays and tackle. Joe’s hardly expecting miracles, but clearly Black’s and his giant contract will be on the opening day roster. Good luck, Mr. Black.

Joe – Any indication on the “type” of defense(s) they are emphasizing? I assume we are using a 4-3, but what about the secondary? Man-to-man, cover-2/3, tampa-2, etc etc. And tidbit would be nice. Thanks

He’d better be playing because Foster and David are bringing it!! Would be nice to see our LB’s go from worst to first in the division…

I hope Black surprises everyone, for it will mean my Bucs are playing better.
I totally agree with Schiano’s tough training camp approach. Once word of how tough our training camps are, other teaMS MIGHT RESPECT US, sorry about the caps (fat fingers)
They will know that playing Tampa aint gonna be no cake walk anymore.

I don’t believe the New Order is giving access to reporters so that they can send out detailed spy reports to the rest of the NFL. An advantage that the Bucs have is that they can hold their cards close to their chest and it will be at least 4 games into the season before the other teams get enough film to know what to expect.
I believe that holds more for defense than offense. With the new offensive hires it is easier to guess what type of offense they will run.

I know the linebacker play last year was horrible, but i think 2 things are going to help the linebackers this year. the first is the linebacker are going to play closer to the line of scrimmage which means less hesitation and more of an attack mode from our linebackers. the second thing is that our head coach played linebacker and should have a good grasp of how to correct some of the problems that our linebackers are facing. im looking for a much improved unit.

Hope springs eternal! It’s training camp and the fee-good stories are inevitable – but come on guys: Quincy “Jane” Black the invisible linebacker?
Let’s talk about real players like Clayborn, Barron, Ronde and David – my player to watch Mike Bennett is looking very good and actually shows up in games.
There are reasons to be optimistic but Jane isn’t one of them.

People can say all they want about Black in a negative light, but the fact is that he is the most physically talented LB in the NFL. His combination of size, strength, speed, and explosiveness would lead to him being a stud NFL LB if he ever truly gets it. I’m hopeful that this is his time. A guy like him should never be asked to diagnose and react, he is a guy that needs to be able to use his gifts and be able to come forward and attack and run sideline-to-sideline.

There is nothing wrong rooting for a player (to get it) like black. He will be starting and I for one am glad to hear that he is playing well because having more than one quality player at anyone position is a good thing. Besides, maybe under schiano this guy will turn into the beast of a player his body suggests. I would think that you would be excited to hear this about black being a BUC fan as you say and confess you are.

@Eric – If you give him the benefit of the doubt then you fall into the camp that “Rock” has put talent on this team. I agree with you. Morris was such a mess he dragged a lot of guys down. Not all, but many.

…which would you rather happen? The Bucs get what they paid for out of Black, or to see him fall flat on his face and the money be wasted?
As fans, we should be hoping for success in all areas. My hope is that Quincy steps it up because we’re stuck with him this year. He’ll get his opportunity to prove himself.
He’ll have to really impress to change some minds though. I can understand the young players not doing so well under Morris, but the veterans should have done marginally…if not significantly…better.

Eric and Thomas have no clue as to what they believe. They spent the last 3 years blaming Morris for everything, but now that he’s gone they have to find new people to complain about. Thomas has chosen Mark Dominik, Eric chooses Schiano. Some people are just happier being miserable, and those 2 definitely fall into that category. But of course they are both great fans.

I think Black was drafted two regimes ago, but Rock did give him a fat contract.
Talent in the Nfl is a razor thin thing. Look at any NFL roster and talent abounds. It’s the way it’s all brought together that matters. That plus a great QB.

DomDom was here and culpable – to suggest that he has no or little blame is just flat out foolish: from ward, Clayton, Crowell, black, Nugent, the entire 09 draft except Free, the entire 10 draft except Williams etc.
If Jane plays average than rah was even worse than I thought, I don’t think that is possible.
I am hoping for the best but expecting Jane and Gerald to be Jane andvGerald.

I understand your skepticism, as you said it is only training camp and not even a preseason fame has been played yet, but this is still good news if you are as you profess, a Bucs fan. Vernon Davis was in the same boat a few years ago. He was a combine freak much like Black who wasn’t living up to his potential. All it took to turn him around was a tough nosed coach named Mike Singletary to give him some discipline and structure, now he is considered a top te. Let’s hope Schiano can have a similiar impact for Black.

I’m excited to hear about Dot at left tackle. I’ve like him from day 1 and was looking for him to be a blocking TE on a more permanent role of take Trusebonehead’s spot. But if he can push Penn out or over to RT, all the better. I hope Penn continues to shed weight and it appears that everyone is getting in better shape ………. for a change. Club Med is history.

GM’s make mistakes every single year. Do you really want to go into how many mistakes Bruce Allen had? Even McKay was far from perfect. Look at the Patriots last year: Ochocinco and Haynesworthless. How did that work out for them. Look at the other players they drafted the year the drafted Brady. Virtually all busts. But they have a QB, plus a pretty damn good coach. Hopefully we have both as well, but we shall see. But it’s ridiculous for you to continually point to his mistakes, as if no other GM does the same. There was an article on Pewter Report that went over the last 3 draft classes of all 3 NFC South teams. It could certainly easily be argued that ours has been the most successful. I’m not saying he’s the best GM in the league, but he’s not half as bad as you make him out to be. He’s made some mistakes, had some bad luck, but overall he’s put some pretty decent young talent on this team. I think Schiano is just what the doctor ordered, and Dominik will be looking a whole lot better this time next year.

as far as Black and the rest of the team goes, they gotta crawl before they walk. and by that i mean “Rah” babied them in to infancy.. now the N.S.O. has to teach them how to crawl then walk then run… could take a season or 2 but as fans lets be patient and hope we get the results that we deserve. BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!

as far as GM’s go, no GM keeps his job forever. they all make mistakes, look around the league and every year during the draft you hear “we hope this guy pans out” drafting is VERY easy when you look back and say we should have taken that guy or this guy. lets not forget that OUR jobs and lively hoods are not depending on it so lets sit back and enjoy the “ENTERTAINMENT” that ALL pro sports are. BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Brandon means he is a freak of nature athletically. Which is basically true. He just needs to put it all together in his head. For T2 and Capt Tim to refer to him as Jane is silly and outlandish. The man is ripped and strong as hell. Let’s hope these coaches can teach him how to use his god given gift as an athlete, and transcend into a great football player as well.
