Brian Price And His Departure

July 27th, 2012

In the small hours of this morning, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times posted a blog item that Brian Price, after failing to run a specific number of sprints for conditioning yesterday, was shipped off to the Bears.

The Bucs former second-round pick from UCLA weighed in at 303 pounds Thursday, nearly 30 pounds lighter than he arrived at One Buc Place a year earlier. All that was left to do was complete the mandatory conditioning test administered by coach Greg Schiano, which consisted of 16, 110-yard sprints with a 45 second rest period between intervals, and he could begin to breathe a little easier.

But after finishing only four sprints, Price heard and felt a sickening pop, which was extremely painful. Trainers rushed to his side and later determined that Price most likely tore some scar tissue and would be good to go in a few days.

Apparently, Schiano had seen enough.

Now this is a great piece of information. Solid work by Stroud. Seriously, it’s a delicious nugget. But Joe wonders if the timing was pure coincidence?

Brag Biggs of the Chicago Tribune Twittered yesterday that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik had been trying to unload Price for some time, but Dominik’s asking price was too high.

@BradBiggs: Personnel man for other team tells me Bucs were trying to move Price for some time & were originally seeking mid-round pick. Found no takers

Well now, the plot thickens.

Look, Joe has no idea if Price being able to finish his sprints was the last straw for the Bucs or not. Still, unearthing this juicy tidbit was solid work by Stroud, who had to get up about three hours later for his radio gig at WDAE-AM 620.

This kind of reminds me of the Aaron Sears situation. Very little information being confirmed and many speculating and linking events to one another. If Price did hear a pop and did tear something why would the Bucs announce it if the trade is pending a physical?

Brian Price was all heart last year on a team full of Sucks!!!

  3. Meh Says:

Dom said this has been in the works for a bit.

“It was something we were preparing for,” Dominik said. “Chuck Price (Brian Price’s agent) wasn’t shocked.”

I think there still is drama until he passes the Bear’s physical.

This guy can’t even run 5 sprints. I don’t want him wasting a rostor spot.

    Joe,

Can you advise what happened to Justin Palowski?

I’ve been trying to find him on 1010 in the afternoons at 12:00pm but it’s Yahoo Sports Radio Tim Brand and not Justin.

  6. rdbucfan Says:

    Sorry,

That is Tim Brando on 1010 at 12pm.

Can you advise what happened to Justin Palowski?

Unless he just got into a wreck or has been mugged in the past 30 minutes, to Joe’s knowledge Justin is fine, except maybe for his green shirt.

    Joe,

I meant that I can no longer find his radio show.

Could you advise if he is still on the radio?

He is still listed on 1010’s website in the 12 – 3 pm time slot but it’s Tim Brando not Justin. I enjoy listening to Justin as much as I enjoy reading the articles on JBF.

No and yes. Patience grasshopper. Just a few days.

  10. rdbucfan Says:

    Thanks Joe!

I hope that the patience we are waiting for is not 98.7 FM, I can’t pick that up at my desk.

Schiano is looking like he has a temper and makes rash decisions behind closed doors. I hope this isn’t the case.

  12. fernando Says:

Hope they are right if someone price plays better in chicago, they would be viewed as making a harsh decision with no sense. Schiano you better win!@!!!

    Agreed Fernando.
