Thursday Was A Wakeup Call
July 27th, 2012Joe cannot remember the Bucs making so much news and transactions in recent times as the team did yesterday, and training camp doesn’t kick off until later this morning.
BabyMama-loving, NBA reality TV star wannabe and largely offseason workout no-show Desmon Briscoe was jettisoned from the team, despite leading the Bucs in touchdown receptions the previous season.
This move was about as shocking to Joe as a Karlos Pena strikeout.
Then, Mark Barron-slugging Brian Price was sent packing to the Bears. We all know about Price’s struggles, both personally and professionally, but he too missed a lot of offseason training.
Previously, disc-spinning tight end Kellen Winslow was shipped to Seattle for not being a toes-on-the-line kinda guy.
These three Bucs now gone is not surprising to David Joseph, per Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times. The law is being laid down in this New Schiano Order and Joseph believes, the way the team played — and acted — last season, this new Parris Island mentality of the New Schiano Order is just what the team needed.
The Bucs have been been an immature football team for too long. Pro Bowl RG Davin Joseph says that’s changing: “We’re maturing a lot. Reality is a beast, and last year was reality. If you don’t commit to the offseason, if you don’t have structure, you’re not going to be very good. reality taught a lot of guys last year, potentially how short your career could be and, without wins, how miserable football can be. Guys are committed to putting football first and that’s exactly what we need around here. “
Wanna hang with NBA groupies while your teammates work out? Then you won’t be with the Bucs. Wanna spin discs at a Las Vegas pool just before blowing off working with your teammates? You won’t be on the team.
Only those who are commited to football and motivated to improve from a horrid 4-12 season are welcome in the New Schiano Order.

outwit outlast outplay, this is survivor, welcome to buccaneer cove tampa fl,where our 90 man team our competing for a 53 man roster spot, with our host greg the hammer schiano, preveiously on our last episode, after making alliances with the brash and callouse kellen winslow, the up and coming reciever dez briscoe, was shocked when his tribe voted kellen out of the last tribal meeting of ota’s surely this was the blindside of the season, but to his credit dez made an alliance with the much troubled and malighned brian price, knowing price had the immunity idol, but to his dismay mark the red barron had lifted it in a squirmish over a squatting spot in the film room.when brian lost his last immunity challange the writing was on the wall, dez and him didn’t have a leg to stand on,and the tribe sent them packing. tune in next week on survivor buccaneer cove!

Price traded for a low pick. Attitude or Health?
July 27th, 2012 at 9:00 am
Good post, Joe. Good work, Greg. My brother was busting my chops yesterday because I was high on Price and Briscoe, although with Dez, the writing has been on the wall for the reasons Joe listed in his post. This team needed a culture change and they are getting it. I have a feeling if enough of the players buy in, the hard work will pay off a lot sooner than most of us expect it to. I’m excited for this season.

I want y’all to know somethin’…. there’s a new sheriff in town…… and his name is Reggie Ham….er Greg Shiano! Y’all be cool! Right on!
July 27th, 2012 at 9:09 am
Sounds to me like weak coaching more than not, don’t know how to deal with a little adversity and motivate guys to follow suit take the easy road out and trade them or cut them for nothing…
July 27th, 2012 at 9:10 am
I highly doubt it was attitude.
July 27th, 2012 at 9:17 am
You forgot Tanard and Faine. A house cleaning was in order. Jackson, Briscoe, and Winslow were not surprising at all. Faine wasn’t a surprise either since he’s been in huge decline. Price was a bit surprising, but since he swung at Barron I’ve stopped caring about him.

Stranger
Not sure what you call punching a teammate then?
Look, I’m sure it was more health than attitude, but looking at the others that were released, it was both.
July 27th, 2012 at 9:25 am
Joe not only is he the “Hammer”, he can do something that has been needed for a long time, “Pull the trigger” when it needs to be done or you could say “Driving the Nail”
July 27th, 2012 at 9:26 am
The word from Dominik this morning was that failing the conditioning test was part of the reason both moves were made. Sucks for them but lets be real. These are some of the best athletes in the world and they were unable to show up in shape for camp. Unfortunate as it may be, I think this is a good thing for the team. No one is safe and you must do what is asked and demanded of you or you will be working somewhere else.
July 27th, 2012 at 9:29 am
If that was a big deal, he would have been traded then. But he was still grieving and he didn’t do any kind of harm to Barron. He was cut because of the conditioning test. Both him and Briscoe failed for different reasons. Price because of his previous injury, which could continue to plague him, and Briscoe because he was lazy.
If they had repeated scuffles or Price went hulk on Barron, they I would believe it was for both.

@Tampa2
Joe will know more then I do but I heard Price was not even close on his conditioning test. And really it was a matter of time before Briscoe was gone.
July 27th, 2012 at 9:35 am
According to tbt.com, Dominik updated reporters this a.m. on the releases. Both brisco and price failed the conditioning test.
“But after finishing only four sprints, Price heard and felt a sickening pop, which was extremely painful. Trainers rushed to his side and later determined that Price most likely tore some scar tissue and would be good to go in a few days.”
July 27th, 2012 at 9:38 am
maybe the pena, scott, et al should take the conditioning test to get some “pop” from them…lol

“the way the team played — and acted — last season, this new Parris Island mentality of the New Schiano Order is just what the team needed.” Also, “the Bucs have been been an immature football team for too long. . .we’re maturing a lot. Reality is a beast, and last year was reality. If you don’t commit to the offseason, if you don’t have structure, you’re not going to be very good.”
Wow! All of this was going on with the Coach of the Year and a Rock Star GM!!
LMAO, it just keeps getting funnier and funnier.
July 27th, 2012 at 9:45 am
the conditioning test “which consisted of 16, 110-yard sprints with a 45 second rest period between intervals..in a predetermined amount of time, depending on their body types. “
July 27th, 2012 at 9:54 am
Briscoe and Price you are the weakest link. Good bye! Nice to see Schiano setting high expectations of the players. Instead of last years “just show up” attitude.
July 27th, 2012 at 10:13 am
Right flipping on Schiano! Love it
July 27th, 2012 at 10:16 am
Ray Perkins 2.0.
July 27th, 2012 at 10:33 am
It’s going to be ok, we got WR London Cox!!!
July 27th, 2012 at 11:07 am
Only someone who lacks understanding can take strong coaching, in the same style as Bill Belichick, and call it the opposite: weak coaching. Schiano is doing everything right so far and this team will be better for it. I guess some fans have a problem with authority in their own lives, so when they see it displayed by an NFL head coach they whine like little girls. Par for the course with a certain percentage of sports fans, I guess. Whatever.
July 27th, 2012 at 11:19 am
Perkins was close friends with Bellichick too……..
