New Breed Of Bucs Fan Coming In 2012

Joe can already hear the saliva dripping from the legions of armchair football geniuses. Oh, 2012 is going to be one hell of a season.
In a move that will forever change coverage of the NFL, as well as fan engagement, the league is making available “Coaches Film” to fans for every single play via the NFL.com Game Rewind package. The cost is only $70 a season.
Simply put, every average bozo who likes to break down film off the TV feed has only been getting the chance to really see about 20 percent of the action. Now everyone who forks over the cash will be able to see just about everything: overhead looks, end zone feeds, etc.
Joe is very excited. Anything that gets fans more engaged and lets Joe dive deeper into the Bucs is a great thing. What will be most interesting to Joe is how various media types react. The NFL is so damn popular that Joe’s not sure how beat writers/talk show hosts are going to be able to get by with merely watching games live or simply staying up to speed via old school TV.
In an effort to be thankful for the little things in life, Joe’s pleased that this technology wasn’t available to Bucs fans during the grotesque 10-game losing streak.

That is cool. I was thinking of something similar the other day. I was thinking that it would be really cool if the NFL did something like NASCAR when you go to the games. NASCAR has fan vision to were you pay like 30$ when you go to the game and get a little monitor with a tv on it with head phones and can listen in to different drivers talking to there crew cheifs. I thought it would be pretty cool if the NFL did something similar with maybe like having differnt replays of the game on it or something and getting to hear whatever player was wired up for the game. Something like hearing the players and coaches with out giving the game plan away to where your getting a little behind the scenes at the same time.

Joe, I’ll leave this to you and the others who make a living writing and talking about the NFL. I don’t have the time, to look over game film. I’m going to stick to making time for the games on Sunday.

RCH, that is a great idea given the NFL has to increase fan experience at the game. In game experience has to compete with the the at home experience of the NFL.

Glad you wrote about this…..the people who do their homework will shine (like JoeBucsFan) and certain local AM Radio morning hosts between 9am-12noon will continue to look like blabbering bafoons who do NO Show Prep.

Joe, will you be able to see blacked out games with this package? Seems like a stupid question but not worth it to me if I can’t watch my bucs. It sucks as a full time student that I miss almost every game because it’s the only time I can usually work

@Paul W. – Blacked out games were available on NFL Game Rewind at midnight following blackouts last year, so it’s hard to believe it won’t be available through this enhanced service.

If I weren’t paying over $300 per month for Sunday ticket, I’d consider it, but I’d rather watch the games on my big TV than my computer monitor. Actually, I’d rather be living in Florida and watching the games live than paying for Sunday Ticket, but that won’t happen for a few years at least…

This is a great service and well worth the price, but I doubt I will be getting it. Although I love football, I don’t really have a strong desire to see the same film as the coaches. I am happy being just a fan, and just don’t feel the need to break down film. It is, however, another genius move by the NFL, and yet another reason why they are one of (if not the) best run business in the world.

BamBam…if you have a big LCD/LED/Plasma TV you can hook a computer to it and watch streamed content…there is even software to record streamed content (I haven’t tried it though).
Next month I’m getting a 42-50 inch (still deciding; my first one) TV and am planning to hook up my old laptop to it for such things. I already have 2 Roku’s as well.
I believe I will be getting the NFL.Com deal this year. Though…I would gladly pay $150 per year if they let me watch games live as well as rewind. OR if they streamed 24/7 NFL network I would gladly pay another $30/year…since Brighthouse does not get it.

Yeah, I have the big TV, but as you said, I’d rather watch it live too. I’ll never trade in my Sunday Ticket unless I can trade it for season tickets to see the games live.
Only problem I see with this whole thing is we’re gonna see even more arm-chair coaches coming out of the woodwork thinking they know what’s going on in a player or coaches head, or what the exact play call/design is. We can all already guess, but never know if it was poor play design, missed assignment by player, bad call by coach, etc. when something goes wrong, but everyone wants to point a finger and we’re gonna hear more people that think they have the answer based on “coaches tape” and a bunch of assumptions.

FOr anybody paying too much for SundayTicket, I suggest telling the SundayTicket people that you’re canceling. If they don’t make an attempt to drop their price right then and there they will call you back and sometimes cut the package down by half. It’s worked for me two years in a row… and at this point I don’t plan on getting it again… so who knows, it might be three years in a row.

Don’t worry about Thomas… he wouldn’t look at coaches film… he doesn’t even look at the broadcast game. If he did, he’d know that Madu and Lumpkin were as much (or more) at fault for the beating Freeman took than Blount. He’d have seen Blount on an excellent blitz pickup against the Cowboys. He’d have seen the YPC go up after GMC went down. He’d know that Michael Bennett was off to a great start with GMC in the middle, and fell off enough for Bowers to step in after GMC went down. Gotta watch the games to know those things, and he obviously doesn’t.
