Kellen Winslow Blasts Greg Schiano
June 15th, 2012Any Bucs fan who thought Kellen Winslow and Greg Schiano were going to get along swimmingly was treated to a rude awakening when Winslow suddenly was traded to Seattle after he didn’t show up to an OTA session this spring.
Now Winslow has confirmed what most Bus fans thought: he blew off OTAs purposely because he quickly developed a hatred for Schiano and his strict ways.
Speaking on Michael Robinson’s “Real Rob Report,” Winslow blasted Schiano for his attention to detail. Fueled by his still lingering anger over the Bucs jettisoning Raheem Morris and not wanting to cooperate with Schiano, Winslow explained he decided his days with the Bucs were done, so reports Will Brinson of CBSSports.com.
“Real [bleep?] Schiano came over there, uh, [bleeping?] ‘TOES ON THE LINE! TOES ON THE LINE!’ Blowing the whistle. You can’t laugh. You can’t joke around. So I decided not to go to OTAs,” Winslow said. “You know they got my man Ra [Raheem Morris] up out of there, and I was loyal to him. Woulda take a bullet for that dude. So I had to roll, man.”
Asked by Robinson what “was so cool about” Raheem Morris, Winslow said he’s a “player’s coach,” not a “company coach” and that the Bucs “fired the wrong dude.”
“The cool thing about Rah is, Rah could be here talking to us right now,” Winslow said. “He wasn’t a company coach. He was a player’s coach. I mean, just everything about him man. He was real. You could talk to him face-to-face, real man-to-man. They fired the wrong dude up there.”
Joe calls bullspit on this. Joe saw plenty of laughing and hooting and hollering Thursday when Schiano had Donald Penn catch a pass to end practice.
Look, the Bucs lost 10 games in a row last year to close the season, many grotesquely so. There shouldn’t be any laughing after that crap! Joe guessing in Winslow’s eyes that meant more of the same kind of practices.
Or is Winslow upset because Schiano probably was going to force him to practice, which he skated on with Morris, fairly, to protect his gimpy knees?
Joe wishes Winslow the best in Seattle. Maybe Pete Carroll won’t mind if Winslow runs a wrong route in the 17th week of the season blowing up a teammate in the process.
Below is the video of Winslow’s tirade. Fast-forward to the 4:21 mark.
June 15th, 2012 at 11:50 pm
Get Bent Winslow!!!! This guy is done and now he’s clowning on Schiano’s coaching like everything was great last year and Rah was some victim!??? Raheem may be a player’s coach but a head football coach he is not (and probably never will be).
If K2 has another two years in the NFL he’s lucky. He was one of my favorites, but last year it was obvious that he’s lost even more of a step and couldn’t cut and/or gain any useful separation. He was all we had last year and that’s the only reason he got 700+ yards… Clark (if healthy) is easily an upgrade with much more explosion and quickness in space especially with the threats we now have at WR.
The Bucs got rid of your gimpy pre madona a** for a 7th round pick and that will likely be a value!!! Go pound sand “Soldier”!!!!
June 15th, 2012 at 11:58 pm
He sounded like a total jackass with a chip on his shoulder. I think it’s clear to everyone why his services were no longer needed under this new, disciplined regime. Thanks for all you did for us, K2. I wish you luck, “Brah”.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:00 am
I think it’s sad how he’s joking about his alma mater, too. I know they’ve sucked lately but you don’t play your own school like that even if they do suck atm.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:01 am
Goodbye Winslow…you were a good player for us but you obviously would never be the leader that our young players need. The last time i checked work was not supposed to be “fun”. Good luck in seattle. So far I have supported everything Greg Shiano has done. Including getting rid of Winslow.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:02 am
He was Freeman’s best buddy (makes me question Josh’s decision making)
June 16th, 2012 at 12:03 am
Rockstar really goes after those character guys — 2009 equals, Winslow, Ward and check’s-in-the-bank Clayton
June 16th, 2012 at 12:23 am
Eliot – I guarantee that Clark doesn’t put up the numbers Winslow did. Even with VJ I can see Freeman regressing without his favorite safety valve. We’re going to be lucky to get a half season of health out of Dallas Clark sadly. He might be a better locker room presence, but I sincerely doubt he outplays Winslow’s worst season as a Buc.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:28 am
When K2 Electric Boogaloo tried to jump some Panther defenders last year and got drilled…his career basically “jumped the shark”. As to the safety valve comment,I’d prefer it if Freeman would try to pick up those 3rd downs himself as he did so effectively in 2010. Win-slow was good for 5-6 yards on 3rd and 8.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:38 am
Take out the trash!
T-Jax, Haybesworth, K2.
Trust Belief Accountability, or get the hell out of Tampa.
June 16th, 2012 at 1:20 am
He sounds like a spoiled little B****. Nice knowin ya K2. Jackass.
June 16th, 2012 at 1:24 am
hahaha his face was pretty funny when he mocked schiano, not gonna lie…. i did chuckle. But wtf is he thinking, tampa is making a tremendous turnoud and its sad he couldt let his ego down and buy into what schaino is selling because he is missing out. oh well he will regret his actions once bucs win the division next year and seatle finishes 3rd in there division cause there going no where with that ugly QB situation.
June 16th, 2012 at 1:47 am
WOW! What a clown!! He couldn’t have come off any worse in that interview. I’m glad he’s gone and I couldn’t be happier or more excited to be a Bucs fan right now.
June 16th, 2012 at 2:08 am
As Joey Ramone would say……”Beat on the brat with baseball bat!”
Wow what a jackass!
June 16th, 2012 at 2:45 am
Good riddance to both. I gave this idiot’s jersey to Goodwill last week.
June 16th, 2012 at 3:30 am
Funny to hear that coming from the guy with 7th round value lol. What a cry baby, let’s see if he even makes the final roster. Though I hope he at least proves himself just enough to turn the pick into a 6th rounder lol.
I’m sure glad he is gone tho, he was cancer to the team.
June 16th, 2012 at 5:08 am
Wow,I was torn with us losing Winslow, but not anymore. His jersey will now become a rag to wash my car. What a stupid decision to say what he said. He comes off as a complete idiot. Good riddance.
June 16th, 2012 at 5:33 am
What a fumbducker. KW Sr. must be so proud!
June 16th, 2012 at 6:59 am
Go ride your motorcycle down the road to obscurity A-hole.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:05 am
Better to be thought a Fool than to open your Mouth & remove all Doubt.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:19 am
Actions like these are just another reason why this guy is no longer on the roster.
One of the first quotes from Coach Schiano was: “Our team will be built around a humble, unselfish attitude of sacrifice.”, and my very first thought was of K2, because he’s the complete antithesis of humble, and as selfish as they come. It was clear to me at that very moment who the problem child under the new regime was going to be. Luckily for us, this cancer of a personality has been told to leave.
This type of player is officially on notice that they are not welcome in the building. All prima donnas need not apply…
…AND STAY OUT!!!
June 16th, 2012 at 7:29 am
LMFAO…what an ass clown, K2 think in this case it would have better to let us assume you were a dik then opening your mouth and removing ALL doubt. For those keeping score, dogged our coach, dogged his University, stuck up for Radio, and told us his wife doesn’t trust him on Twitter. I think all character concerns have been certainly been put to rest.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:32 am
What a bag. Good trade Dom!
June 16th, 2012 at 7:34 am
Sounds like “Ra” has a little cancer in him too.. Beat it Winslow
June 16th, 2012 at 7:36 am
Too bad we don’t play them this year. Maybe they win their crappy division with the usual 7-9 or worse record and we see them in the wild card or something.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:47 am
“and” should be “or”, sry no edit
June 16th, 2012 at 7:49 am
I was also of the mind this was a bad decision to let him go. But he just made himself crystal clear why he is now out of Tampa. What a loser. Good riddance to bad rubbish. It’s pathetic you get paid millions of dollars and not willing to put in the work to be great. Good luck in Seattle A-hole!
June 16th, 2012 at 7:55 am
I pretty much agree with the general consensus here.
He’a Soldja, woulda take a bullet for dat dude. Who is kidding?
Pete Carroll won’t put up with him very long.
June 16th, 2012 at 8:06 am
K2, suck it!
Nobody is above the team.
He’s a spoiled baby back bitch, and this is the best thing we could have done.
Dallas Clark is a welcome addition, especially after hearing Winslow talk, what a piece of crap.
Classless, egotistical, moronic are just a few words that come to mind when thinking about K2.
June 16th, 2012 at 8:25 am
@Freemanbomb:
The only reason Win”slow” (very slow) got 700+ yards was that he was the only option and was in Freeman’s ear all year. He looked painfully slow and his short area quickness was gone. That attempted hurdle in Carolina was a freaking embarrassment and a joke!
I’ll take Dallas Clark all day and he will be (if healthy) more effective in the underneath routes than K2. We won’t need to force feed our TE’s as we now will have a deep threat and other weapons to choose from not to mention a overall better offense complete with a dominating ground game.
Can’t wait to see what this spoiled b**ch will do with that QB disaster in Seattle. I’m sure he’ll be a consummate pro…
Good bye K2! You’re a “has-been” and aren’t fit to wash your Dad’s jock!!
June 16th, 2012 at 8:31 am
And that interview my friends, exemplifies all that is wrong with the NFL! Company Coarch? WTF!
June 16th, 2012 at 8:34 am
I hereby withdraw my previous support for this idiot.
I hope free stays away from him.
June 16th, 2012 at 8:43 am
Anybody who thinks Winslow wasn’t a cancer to this team can see now why he WAS. I knew he’s be gone and I’m glad he is. To think that we’ll be less productive without Winslow is just silly. Does anyone actually think that Winslow would be the favorite target this year with Vincent Jackson on the team? K2 has proven he was who we thought he was….a sniveling little whiney bitch.
June 16th, 2012 at 8:55 am
Hells yes Eric!
Something had to be done.
K2, damaged goods and mentally twice as damaged.
After seeing that interview, I don doubt the huge fine he’s facing from renting a mansion.
K2 has no respect, must be nice to ride daddy’s coat tails all the way to the NFL.
Congrats K2, you sir, are a limited talent ass clown.
June 16th, 2012 at 8:56 am
#6 overall pick, classic Cleveland “Whoops!!” picking K2.
O
June 16th, 2012 at 8:57 am
This is proof positive to what i’ve long thought – there are lots of guys in the NFL who don’t care about winning – just about a paycheck. How in the blue hell could you want Rah if you were concerned about being a winner?
June 16th, 2012 at 8:59 am
JOE,
LMAO! I just noticed the ad above the Winslow article is for motorcyclecrashflorida.com !!! That’s funny! Maybe they can get him as a spokesman.
June 16th, 2012 at 9:00 am
What a punk, “What?? I gotta go to practice? Practice? C’mon man, Practice.. I am out..
Your right too, this was Freemans best bud?? Out of all the players you choose this loser to be your “bro”.
June 16th, 2012 at 9:13 am
With team leaders like that, who needed a locker room cancer. Gents, this is addition by subtraction. And I agree, Clark won’t have the production of Winslow, because Clark will be in an offense that does not feature the TE.
June 16th, 2012 at 9:15 am
K2 12tds 3seasons not near the production u need for a player makin slots money glad he is gone
June 16th, 2012 at 9:17 am
By tha way he could rawy get open as teams would play Alota man agsinst our receivers/TE
June 16th, 2012 at 9:25 am
THIS is the guy Freeman referred to as a “True Professional”?
June 16th, 2012 at 9:42 am
Winslow opened his yapper for this?
This makes him look like what he is, a self centered jack wagon who thinks rules don’t apply for men of his talent. Unbelievable that the man could think he’d get any other reaction than this one.
Take out the trash indeed……
June 16th, 2012 at 9:43 am
He is emblematic of his generation, “I don’t wanna work hard, where’s my trophy?”
June 16th, 2012 at 10:10 am
why is Freeman getting heat? He isnt going to bash K2 on the way out the door, instead say nothing but positive things to the press but behind closed doors say good riddance.
It’s what a true professional would do
June 16th, 2012 at 10:19 am
what a fricken moron ! as a Cane fan i am embarrassed !
June 16th, 2012 at 10:59 am
No surprises here.
Dumping his contract, getting a late pick, excising the demon from Freeman’s dome, getting at least marginal blocking from the position and picking up a true pro in Clark? You just filled a hand counting win.
June 16th, 2012 at 11:11 am
It’s funny because you’d always see K2 be the last one on the field before the game “practicing” cuts and stuff. I think that was all just because he’s trying to doll up his image in front of fans.
June 16th, 2012 at 11:22 am
Pete Carroll is probably asking himself right about now “what kind of mess did I get into?”
K2 gets cut before Game 1, betcha, bubbye A-hole. Should have kept your big mouth shut.
K2 will be one of the broke NFL players in a few short years, and hottie wife will go with her share first.
June 16th, 2012 at 11:26 am
Hey Kellen, hold the pickles and onions, and super size it.
June 16th, 2012 at 11:35 am
I’m guessing Raheem won’t be using him as a reference.
June 16th, 2012 at 11:41 am
That is just a prime example why coaches should not pamper players. This guy was allowed to do as he pleased. End result was a 10 game losing streak. I agree to easing up on long-term vets. By that meaning maybe they leave the field 30 minutes earlier. When Special teams start drills. Wether Schiano lasts as the head coach or not, this team will learn fundamentals and professionalism. Enjoy your final days Winslow. See how long you last.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:10 pm
I would suggest some reading material for the Little General, Leo Durocher wrote a book called “Nice Guys Finish Last.” In that book Leo describes how a successful coach determines how to treat individual players. You can not treat them all the same. The goal is to get the most that you can out of each and every player. You must also endeavor to get them to play together as a unit. There are many diverse personalities on a football team and you can not treat them all the same. Its utter nonsense to try and doomed for failure.
I would also suggest that he failed miserably with K2. There is no such thing as a professional player who is a cancer to a team. They become pros by being successful at every level. Pop Warner, high school and college. K2 was also extremely successful as a pro, earning millions of dollars along the way. The Bucs paid dearly for his services. Coaches all along the way got this arrogant jerk to play very well. He said he would take a bullet for Raheem.
Whipping a horse sometimes makes them run faster, some horses when you whip them, they will stop dead and try to throw you.
Trading this highly successful professional athlete for a future late round draft pick was a profound failure for the head coach, GM and for Kellen Winslow as well.
The commenters on this forum are all spiking the ball like the Little General just scored a touchdown and I seem to be the only one who noticed Schiano ran the wrong direction and scored a safety for our opponents. A present day 2nd round pick was turned into a future 7th round pick. Josh Freeman’s good friend was fired and the coach lost a some respect along the way.
Interesting that he said they fired the wrong guy. Since everyone was fired except for the Rockstar, I wonder who he meant?
June 16th, 2012 at 12:36 pm
Miguel you 100% wrong about a cancer in the locker room. Employees with abd attitudes in a work place can be the same cancerous tumor, just like K2. When I person is preaching values opposite of management it can cause disention in the ranks and even a mutiny. Time and again these cancerous players like K2, Ocho, & T.O. all end up being traded for little or given away, and sooner rather than later they weed themselves out of the league. As nicely as I can say this, you have no idea what you are talking about. When you think 1 thing and the other 99% thinks the exact opposite, you might consider re-evaluating your position. Sorry.
June 16th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Yeah my typing sucks, call me K2.2
June 16th, 2012 at 1:01 pm
Awwwwww…..they fired his fwiend, so he isn’t showing up for OTAs…poor baby.
You ain’t supposed to “get along” with your coach!!
Looks like K1 raised a spoiled little baby.
Don’t need him.
June 16th, 2012 at 1:14 pm
Knew it.
June 16th, 2012 at 1:24 pm
Miguel,
Wow, you are seriously clueless dude.
June 16th, 2012 at 1:26 pm
@miguel Bill Bellicheat treats all of his players the same….
June 16th, 2012 at 2:29 pm
nice loofah sponge soulja boy
June 16th, 2012 at 4:46 pm
Miguel…you really do sound like you know nothing about team sports. The race horse analogy was lame. Football is a team sport and you absolutely can have a cancer on a team that affects the performance of the unit. We shouldn’t have to explain that to you.
June 16th, 2012 at 4:47 pm
Why all the hatred of Winslow? To ,me he was doing nothing more than expressing the sentiment of the country I mean come on people doesn’t K2 have a right to be angry? Just last season coach Rah let the team have fun plus Winslow got paid for playing. Now a new coach comes to town and expects accountability! That’s not fair! Maybe K2 should have called Barak O’Bummer and plead his case.
June 16th, 2012 at 4:58 pm
Miguel
You bring forth some very valid points in your post especially about how a coach needs to know how to get the most out of their players. I personally thing that sometimes coaches that come from college to the pro ranks have lots of difficulty with the veterans because once the pro ranks some of these players can indeed become prima donas; I believe Winslow was one of those types.
Winslow really had nothing to gain by slamming Schiano and the Bucs so unless he was a child why do it? Simply put there can be/are players like Randy Moss and Kellen Winslow who simply aren’t dedicated to the teams goals and they can create disharmony on a team. Kellens rants proved that he belongs in that “special group”
June 16th, 2012 at 5:23 pm
“There is no such thing as a professional player who is a cancer to a team.”
————
Completely ignorant statement, and 100% bullspit. You have obviously been hitting the bong too hard and have never played team sports. I have witnessed first hand having one player tear an entire team down, at that was just at the college level.
As a coach, you absolutely have to treat your players differently depending on their personalities. However, if the player is an average player (at best), then sorry but they don’t get special treatment. That’s the way it works. If you didn’t see K2 slowing down last year than you are blind. Therefore, you don’t need to put up with his bullspit. And the rest of the league saw it too, or we would have gotten a helluva lot more than a 7th round pick for him. It’s going to be funny to watch him flop in Seattle, if he even makes the team.
June 16th, 2012 at 5:25 pm
I guess T.O. never was a cancer to a team?
June 16th, 2012 at 6:13 pm
I don’t know. I’ve hit the Bong plenty and don’t think I’ve ever been that out of touch. I once ate an entire comic book because I thought it was LSD, while on LSD.
June 16th, 2012 at 6:37 pm
Point taken, BigMac, lol.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:03 pm
Just a side comment on this…Winslow would not have been upset if he didn’t want to stay here. And if he wanted to stay…then I suppose Schiano isn’t so bad…is he?
June 16th, 2012 at 7:27 pm
The funniest part was he sat there and blasted off a list of great players to come out of the University of Miami and didn’t mention Warren Sapp, whom I’m sure he’s met at least a few times. Clearly this dude has no loyalty. He’s just a whiny bum with crunchy knees who got butt hurt when nobody in the New Shiano Order would hold his hand and let him dictate his terms anymore. Good riddance.
June 16th, 2012 at 8:03 pm
Didn’t K2 try to portray Schiano as a liar by telling K2 “he was his guy”? It sounds like K2 was his guy until he pulled his little stunt and then it was Hasta-la-Bye-bye-diva-bitch. If that was all it took for Schiano to do a complete 180 and send him packing, that is great. Boom, seeya. I give total props to Coach and it is always good to make an example out of someone, as long as you choose the right person (unlike Rah with Price). Yeah I think Coach Schiano would do anything in the world for you, but if you cross him, lie or try to undermine him, he’s probably your worst nightmare.
June 16th, 2012 at 10:08 pm
For a guy that couldn’t run routes properly (ran into his own players). Needed to push off to gain separation (constantly penalized). Always complained and was a Me Me type of guy. Here’s one for you Winslow… you’re a F*****G Loser Arsehole. He has all the qualities of an overpaid loser and he’ll fail.
June 16th, 2012 at 10:09 pm
K2 is a mental midget.
June 17th, 2012 at 10:50 am
Kellen:
Whether or not there is bad blood between you and the current Buccaneer regime, badmouthing an ex-employer in public is career suicide (for how ever long you keep playing or your post-NFL life). All this does is leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth and contributes to the enduring impression that you are difficult to deal with.
Resist the urge and just let it go. The Internet never forgets, how much you want to bet that this is going to spring back up again and again, “Soldier”?
Next time, just do something that will allow you to vent and then move on; like take a nice, long hot shower with that lime-green loofah sponge on your locker, tough guy.
