Schiano Talks Temperature

As if anyone thought otherwise, Greg Schiano really does care about regulating and mandating meeting room temperatures, so he told Albert Breer of NFL.com.
Breer got into ChillGate and Noodletalk with Schiano and rockstar general manager Mark Dominik today.
“That speaks to the level of detail, the organization and how precise he thinks the little things need to be to get it right,” said Dominik, who laughed when he heard about Schiano’s response to the temperature story. “I saw that story as a positive, as him trying to find any advantage he can to make the team better. Whether it’s the room temperature or the story about him allegedly wanting a certain kind of pasta, it shows how important all of it is to Coach Schiano. In any and all aspects of the operation, he wants it to be the best it can be.”

Again, Joe has no problem with any of this micromanaging. Though Joe’s not sure why Peter King made such a big deal out of it. Other coaches do it and they’re heralded. Schiano’s a “control freak” and that’s somehow a problem?
Sure, a coach can take things too far, but setting a thermostat at 71.3 degrees, for example, is not going to upset anything. The Bucs roster needs the discipline, and especially the perception that their every move is being scrutinized, and that everything they do is important.
Hopefully, that doesn’t lead to young players playing scared. But if that’s the case, then hopefully Schiano and his staff will pick up on that in training camp when the pads come on and figure out how to adjust successfully.

Peter King…who I like and enjoy his MMQB column…doesn’t seem to care for the Bucs much these days.Sounds like he and Rah had a dust up in 2010 preseason…sounds like he isn’t much of a fan of The Italian Stallion either.

You are correct. Rah and Peter King didn’t get along. Well, at least Rah didn’t like him, and stiffed him on an interview (not smart). That shouldn’t explain why/if Peter King doesn’t like the Bucs (Joe doesn’t know either way and frankly, so what?). Thing is, Rah is gone.

I never heard of a HVAC system thermostat for that kind of building regulating to the tenth degree. General hospitals don’t even have systems like that.

If I was a coach in a room with 25 or so 250 pound men burping and farting, I would want that HVAC system running full blast.

My brother was at a business convention in downtown today. Schiano was a guest speaker today and he talked about how he wanted to turn the bucs organization back into a classy organization like the it was in the Dungy days. With that being said someone told my brother that a player told him that at the game in atlanta last year they were at the strip club the night before. Raheem Morris came and told them they had to leave and this was about two in the morning. The player said that he was pissed because after Morris had told them to leave, Raheem ended up staying at the club. Just an intresting story I wanted to share…

Read a lot of responses to this article across the web and the conclusion I’ve arrived at is people who reject a little control, speak very negatively on this subject. These are the individuals who typically don’t do well in life. Yes… you know who you are as well as we do.

@Clayburn: Calling BS on that. The strange thing is, those stories about Rah never came out when he was winning. Once he is no more in Tampa and has no chance to comment on it, all this BS is being brought up or I must say made up.

Yet despite all this Manaical “attention to detail”, this guy has a .500 record at tiny lil Rutgers. Unable to compile a winning record against such powerhouses as Cincinnati and Connecticut.

How will he possibly beat the coaches he’ll face in this league?
I think he’ll have more to think about than air conditioners and Pasta soon.
If he continues on this course, he will be tuned out by the team shortly.

I find the media reaction to this strange – in my opinion they seem to have failed to see the wood for the trees.
Admittedly, taken in isolation, obsessing over things like temperature, 2 drinks, pasta type, etc – may seem inconsequential and perhaps faintly laughable.
But it’s not like Schiano genuinely believes that these things will make a huge difference in and of themselves. It’s more about him practicing what he preaches about discipline, organisation and being thorough.
By really living these tenets in everything he does, he is giving his players an example of how they too should be detail-obsessed.

The media is just whining because they don’t have the access they had in the past. They think that by complaining they will force Schiano to open the doors a little bit more to make peace. I heard Stroud crying the other morning on WDAE about the ‘lack of access’. He thought we should go on Hard Knocks. What an idiot. Schiano needs to do nothing other than put a good team on the field on Sundays. If he does that he’ll have happy fans and shut up some of the pickle heads we have posting on here.

If you drop Schiano’s first 3 year at Rutgers because not all of those were players he recruited, his record is 60-40. Also, by dropping the first 3 years, he took them to bowl games in 6 of 8 years (won 5 of 6 bowl games). He was turning a nothing program into something. That takes time to weed out the previous staff’s decisions. Granted during this time span, his conference record was 31-29, which is not the best. I’m not saying Schiano is going to come out and win 12 games this year, but I think he definitely brings hope to the team after last years debacle . Sometimes I wonder if folks like Eric and Capt. Tim are the same person who post under two names to build ‘each other’ up.
