Now What?

April 27th, 2012

The Bucs have wiped out their third- and fourth-round picks in the trade up for Lavonte David, snagged with the Texans’ former second-round pick.

That means the Bucs, barring a deal, will get some action again tomorrow around 1:30 p.m. in the fifth round of the draft. (Feel free to join Joe and The Commish at Pete & Shorty’s in Pinellas Park.) It’s a safe bet that the Bucs won’t be trading up into the fourth round. At this point, Joe suspects the Bucs are looking to stockpile quality camp bodies who can compete and various positions.

Best available cornerback, anyone?

They also landed the Texans’ seventh-round pick in the trade-up for David, so that’s another spot for rock star general manager Mark Dominik to work with.

probably see the fastest corner available in the fifth.

  2. David Says:

The way I see it is they started the weekend with these round picks:
    1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7
    and ended with
    1, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 7

Basically, when all was said and done they gave up a 3rd and got another 1st and another 7th.

    OUTSTANDING!!

Then there is the fact that they got 3 guys that all have had 1st round projections at one point or another and all 3 will either start or see alot of playing time.

    Fantastic first 2 days!

  3. J 2.0 Says:

David you are 100% correct. I love your perspective.

We have 3 starters with our 1st 3 picks. I like David, I think the Vikings got an equally exciting pick in the 3rd in Josh Robinson, but I will not complain.

Rock Star is Dominating this draft. Joe, he is truly Rock Star from now on!

  4. J 2.0 Says:

Nicks, Jackson, Wright, Okoye, Barron, Martin, David, and even a solid backup QB is Orlovsky, THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST OFFSEASON AS A BUC FAN EVER!

  5. NJBucsFan Says:

Best part is they didn’t touch any picks from next years draft. I’d like to see a move for Jenkins from Dallas though.

  6. Thomas2.2 Says:

    Now what?

Um, how about we draft a CB, MLB and TE – probably another receiver.

Schiano’s influence is making a huge difference since the T Rich debacle.

Shows you how poisonously stupid the rah-Dom combo was – blind leading the blind.

  7. Horice Says:

I agree with Joe, CB’s needed. This has been a great draft, I feel as though we have got our Ice cream, and our cake. All we need now is the Bridesmaid!

  8. BonesMahoney Says:

They’ll stick to their board and we’ll end up with some players that fall further than they should have. Loving this draft so far.

  9. buCncRaZy Says:

Awesome draft, notes if he could make a trade for mike Jenkins!

  10. Tampa2 Says:

This may well be Dom’s best draft ever. Might even make me get over the McCoy blunder.

  11. RastaMon Says:

Only Cris Rainey…could salvage this weekend

  12. buCncRaZy Says:

Would still like to see Ronnell Lewis in pewter.

  13. Architek Says:

Great draft. The best in over a decade for the Bucs. I love all of the picks because their potential match their production. All we need now is a CB and ST’er like Rainey and a swing offensive lineman

  14. Squadoosh Says:

    Rastamon..take some medication brother..jeesh!

  15. BucFan20 Says:

    @ Squadoosh
If you noticed he said Cris Rainey. He’s just pissed because for the first time since 1980 nobody from any college in the State of Florida had a first round pick!!!

  16. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Thomas,
Why are you STILL talking about Raheem? We are all talking about the 2012 Buccaneers, but you are still singing the only tune you apparently know. Move on, buddy, let it go. I know you have some kind of weird, special feelings for Raheem, but it’s time you realize that he’s not coming back through those doors. I mean, at what point do you plan on discussing the current team?

Thomas 2.2 is a Saint fan some guy on my roof told me.

  18. 941-Bucs Says:

Gimme Ron Brooks and i can die happy lols!

  19. 941-Bucs Says:

Hell Alfonzo Dennard is still on the board. Do we take another corner with questionable character traits?

The Talent is there ( not Talib talent) but still better then some of the CB’s already drafted. Plus (pre-punch to a cops face) The Bucs were really high on him coming into the draft. Maybe we take a shot at him if he continues to fall.

  20. 941-Bucs Says:

Just saying i think Schiano could keep his nose clean. May actually be a good fit. We have the coaching staff to deal with someone like him. Plus a CB coach who has turned out some of the best talents at CB over the last few years.

  21. albuc44 Says:

Stack up on Rutgers defense ..either draft or undrafted FA’s…guys who know Shiano system …. who can come in and know the the system. CB next years draft

  22. bowtie502 Says:

bobby massie or andrew datko……address the backup offensive tackle spot

  23. passenger27 Says:

Bucs won’t pick anyone with character issues goes completly against their stated message… love what they have done so far I’m gnna sit back and watch these guys wrk… Go bucs

  24. Capt. Tim Says:

I expect the Bucs to make a play for best CB available. There are still CBS on the board that are better than what we have.

Last two picks were both “A” quality guys.

Let’s see if we can find a CB and A MLB out there

  25. Lion Says:

I am pretty sure they will just got best player available here on out, as they should in the later rounds.
