Greg Schiano says Doug Martin can pass block. From a coach known for developing NFL-ready players at Rutgers, this makes Joe feel great.
On running back prospects that block, Schiano said, “there’s not a lot of them in college football.”
Schiano went on to say he sees some Ray Rice in Martin. “I do. I see a guy that is an incredible competitor and runs hard and plays hard,” he said.

Great Pick….if Richardson was 1, I think he was 1A. Being out in Oregon, I got to see alot of his games, this guy is a stud!!!

I’ve been watching Martin for the past two seasons. I always thought he looked like a bit bigger Ray Rice. Hopefully, that’s what we are getting. He returns kicks, catches the ball, blocks, with him and LeGarrette it will be a dynamic 1-2 punch.

Joe Martinek will be the 3rd piece to our 3 headed dog backfield. Both he and Martin can do it all….so Blount will tune and learn how to be a more well rounded back, or he’ll get less and less chances to touch the ball.
Blount, Martin, Martinek….behind our new and improved O-line….can’t wait to SMASH people this season!

Also, Ray Rice was 5’9″ 195lbs at the combine. Doug Martin was 5’9″ 223lbs. Ray has gotten bigger over his 4 year career, but he still is nowhere near the size of Martin. Martin is more comparable to Frank Gore when it comes to stature.
