Mark Barron Not A Bad Consolation

Joe is just sitting here shaking his head. Bucs general manager Mark Dominik gave up a franchise corner in a passing league, a dire need, for a fourth round pick and a safety.
A safety.
Granted, Alabama safety Mark Barron is not a bad pick, not bad at all. But a stud corner is much, much more valuable than a safety any day.
Granted, safety was a need. Tanard Jackson almost smoked his way out of the league and clearly playing for the Bucs was not a priority.
Gone.
Joe likes Cody Grimm a lot but for some reasons, Bucs fans are quick to point out, accurately, that defensive tackle Gerald McCoy could not stay on the field. But for some reason would not apply the same standard to Grimm.
The last two seasons, Grimm’s first two in the NFL, he suffered season-ending leg injuries. Not only is there no reason to believe Grimm can finish a full season, there is also ample reason to believe Grimm would lose a step or two to his injured wheels.
Given Grimm was not fleet of feet to begin with, who is to say Grimm could hang with tight ends any longer?
Joe’s of the mind that Barron will be the best Bucs safety since John Lynch. But damn, a stud corner would sure have helped.

I am officially on the “FIRE DOMINIK” bandwagon. That was the DUMBEST move I’ve ever seen by a GM. He GAMBLED and got F’ed by another team. He should have just STAYED PUT! I haven’t been this upset over a Bucs draft since they took Michael Clayton over Stephen Jackson.

Not necessarily Joe. Would you rather have Nnamdi or Ed Reed? Before everyone goes crazy at me, I’m not saying he’s as good as Ed Reed. My point is that if he’s special, then a safety can be more valuable. It all depends on how good the safety is. He’s pretty damn good. No real flaws. Claiborne will be great I’m sure, but he does have some question marks (namely that he struggles tackling).

I don’t know about you…but I’d be willing to draft John Lynch with an early first rounder. Mark Barron is a freaking stud.
And I’m not convinced he wasn’t the plan all along. Remember the Wonderlic scores? Maybe they did make a difference.

Holy crap, here come the haters before this kid played a down or the draft is even finished. If we scoop up a great RB and another Solid CB add a couple of late round LBs (hope one pans out) this draft will be a huge success. Barron is a stud who lays the wood & can cover big TE’s/WRs something Bucs face every year in our division!

This guy can cover, hits like a truck and will make or D much much better.

better based on, well, no interviews, no attendance at combines, practices or pro days but rather on what they read on a web site need to breath.

Awful awful awful…. I have now OFFICIALLY had it with Dominik. He blew it. Blew it big time. He drafted McCoy and his twig-like arms. He drafted Price and his rubber-band hamstrings. And now he completely missed out on THREE of the consensus TOP 5 picks in this draft. That’s it. I’m done with him. Dominik is a waste of ORGANS. THIS IS THE WORST DRAFT SINCE THE BUCS PICKED MICHAEL CLAYTON OVER STEPHEN JACKSON!!!!!

This is why we should have fired Dominik along with Raheem. We lose out on Claiborne for a 4th round pick, and then reach for a safety.
If Barron isnt in the pro bowl by 2013, Dominik needs to be fired.

Agreed Hawaiin. Guys claiming Barron would be there at 14 are just flat wrong. Buffalo, Arizona, and several other teams loved Barron! No way he was falling to us, we couldn’t get who we wanted at 14. Man Bucs fans are just negative about EVERYTHING! The Draft isn’t even close to being over, we can still land Doug Martin, LaMicheal James maybe even Hightower if he falls!

Don’t rule out the Bucs making a play for Dont’a hightower if he slips to 2nd round. Getting two Alabama captains who knock the piss out of guys from a national championship defense could be a huge boost & cool pairing!

People like you post the stat of the bucs record last year without statless Gerald but fail to mention that Cody Grimm was also out as well.
That is what is bogus. Yes, Cody needs to stay healthy also, but Cody played very well and the team suffered when he was out. Gerald stunk and people act like his absence meant more than Grimms.

I think Adam, based on his command of the English language and deep understanding of college and NFL player evaluation should be the first HC/GM in Buccaneer team history.
We got one hell of a player at a need position who fits what the Bucs want to do on defense. That kind of sort of matters despite the histrionics of some “knowledgeable” fans going off the deep end over picking a great college players who has yet to even see the practice field in Tampa. LOL

The Bucs got SHAFTED, Garv. Dominik gambled and LOST. He had an opportunity to get a top-flight corner in a PASS HAPPY conference and he FAILED…all for a 4th round PICK???? Hell, the FALCONS got a PRO BOWL CORNER from the EAGLES for a 7TH ROUND PICK?!?!?!?!!!? ARE YOU STUPID????????

He obviously wasn’t first on our board Barron was the pick all along. And honestly I can’t disagree with it because safety even moreso then corner was our worst position on the team last year. We have cam brees and ryan in our division you better have a safety that can cover the deep halves and win jumpballs.

941, sure ANYTHING is interesting. Getting an extra 1st round pick would have been interesting, I’m just trying to stay grounded in what the facts point to how the draft panned out. My friend a die hard bills fan had all bills staff/experts targeting a trade for Kallil if they could or praying Barron fell to them at 10. Arizona also rumored to have loved him. The idea that we could trade back farther and still get him just isn’t realistic. Now you could be stuck at 14 & get a bigger gamble pick. We got our guy and got another raffle ticket in the 4th to land someone. I see it as a Win tonight!

I’m good w/ the Barron pick. He was a leader and playmaker on a championship defense. Lets compare the impact of Barron, Kuechly and Claiborne. I got Barron being the better pro. Mark Dom should have got at least a 3rd round pick though

Looking back now… when I twitted I wanted the other LSU DB on December 10th. (MO Clayborne) I like the pick a lot and I see several reasons they went with Barron instead of Clay. The pick is omni-fold
1. Extra pick
2. A “Tackler” Clay is one of the best cover corners out of college in recent history potentially. BUT he is not the tackler that Barron is.
3. CB’s our on “islands” Safeties play all over the place HUGE REASON!!!
4. Not a single layer of our Defense (DL, LB, secondary) could tackle last year. This guy can play on all those levels.
5. He’s a leader.
I could go on and on….
The pick is pretty good I think and I will renew my inaugural season Tix.

I love the pick. Considering Barber is still on the team, we signed Wright, and Talib may still play, the biggest hole on the team was safety. Both starters are gone and everyone left is a 6th round pick or less. This gives us a true starting safety. I think this was an extremely smart move to fill the biggest need on defense.

Oh, and if… that’s a big if, Mark got played by Dallass then he just seriously played the Giants who picked a RB right after us and the Rams that are said to be drafting a RB with their 2(1) pick.
Go get us a LB and I would say that this program had a hell of an off-season and got the ship righted!! GO BUCS!

Kind of makes me laugh at some of the fans who are up at arms with Dominik.
i am actually quite happy with this for 2 reasons.
1. i already know we just got Doug Martin
2. Who in there right mind really believed Jerry Jones was “Once Again” going to be a pain in our ass during a draft and pick the exact player we wanted, even tho his DREAM pick is still on the board.

I was as shocked as anybody that we didn’t pull the trigger on Claiborne, however, it’s a HUGE upgrade for a hole we had on defense.

What couldn’t the Bucs do consistently?> stop the run
What does a hard hitting safety do >? help stop the run
What else did the bucs do badly? > gave up big passing plays
What else is this kid known for ? > coverage skills
What are 99% of buc fans ? > Media Sponges, they soak up and regurgitate articles whose sole intent is to get you to read them regardless of truth or facts.
Solution? Actually watch some College football and come to your own conclusions.
This young man will improve this team both in run defense and pass defense.
He also comes from a superior program being run @ Bama = Natl.champs
Mo would have been great but only in one facet of the game.
That being said , I too would have loved to see a little more return on our trading back to #7, but if that is all I have to bitch about then it is a successful draft so far.
