Jim Brown Not A Fan Of Trent Richardson

Earlier today, Joe stated the only way Joe would cough up the ransom required to draft a running back at No. 3 overall would be if said running back would be the second-coming of Jim Brown.
Well, it appears the original Jim Brown wouldn’t pull the trigger on such a deal, either. Brown, arguably the best player in NFL history, much less the greatest running back, spoke on BSPN radio today and scoffed at Alabama running back Trent Richardson, documents Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com.
“I’m not overwhelmed with it,” Brown said of the idea that the Browns could take Richardson. “The problem is that he’s ordinary. I think he’s ordinary.”
While Joe will never say Richardson is “ordinary,” as Joe wrote once before, Joe didn’t think Richardson was that much better than Wisconsin’s Montee Ball, and Joe doesn’t see or hear of that many people doing backflips and genuflecting over Ball the way many Bucs fans do over Richardson.
If the Bucs only needed one running back to get over the hump to win a Super Bowl (reminder: the Bucs already have a proven running back), then maybe Joe would drink the Richardson Kool-Aid.
The Bucs are far, far away from a Super Bowl contender.

Haha good to see people notice how biased joe is, and how he only simply post negative things about Trent Richardson. Only 3 hours to go and we can finally just see what happens. But if Trent is a buc, it will be funny how fast joe hops on the bandwagon… Especially after week 1 when he goes 120yards for 2 TDs

Why would you take Richardson even if he is better than average.
A trade down could provide a very good corner, safety and running back with the first 3 picks. With this draft I would consider trading down twice and have 2 lower first’s and 2 seconds or 1 first and 3 seconds. Once you fill the gap at right tackle, 2 linebackers, 1 safety and 2 corners, you can take Pead in the late 4th early 5th rd. Pead gives you a complement to the current backfield.
When your down 10 to nothing in the late innings, swinging for the fence may look good but is not a game changer.

I respect Jim Brown; however, to me this seems like a guy that doesnt want another hightly touted running back coming in and diminishing the legacy he left with the Browns.
Yes…I said it, I think Jim Brown wants to be known as the best running back to ever play for the Browns….so anybody else is just average in his eyes…

I absolutely agree with Jim Brown and Ive been saying it for weeks. The kid is good but he is not special.
He will be productive but not a game breaker. He couldnt beat out Ingram last year and he has not been anything special.

I’m shocked that it took Joe this long to post this article. I saw it up on PFT and I knew it was only a matter of time before Joe pounced on it. Never mind all the hundreds of experts that have said the EXACT opposite, let’s point out only the negatives, lol. I now want Richardson more than ever, just to prove the haters wrong. It would be awful fun to bring it up every week when he runs for 130 and scores 2 TD’s.
Jim Brown is the greatest runner of all time and Trent Richardson will never be as good as him, but at the same time Brown’s not exactly one to reap praise on anyone. Old timers rarely do. I could give 2 sh!ts what he thinks, and I guarantee you the Browns, Bucs, and all the other teams feel exactly the same way.

Jim Brown’s opinion is about as valuable as a Gerald commitment to play a 16 game season.

Ingram was a Saint last year, and you must not watch College Football.
Richardson was 36% of Bama’s offense, and gained 40+% of his yards after contact.
He is a stout bull, and will be a productive centerpiece for years to come.
All of this hate to skew opinion is laughable.
I am happy with whomever we draft, but to dismiss Richardson is just outright foolish.
I believe Mr. 2.2 has a word for this…. Baah Baaaah Sheep.

You really don’t know the facts. First off, he was on the field all the time, and their most dynamic player. If you actually watched Bama play that year, you would know that. Also, Ingram was coming off of a Heisman Trophy season (you know, that trophy they give to the best college football player in the country). Would you really expect Saban to put his Heisman winning RB on the bench on his last year? If so, you don’t understand college athletics and recruiting. Richardson averaged 6.3 yards per carry that year! Everyone in Tuscaloosa knew who the better player is, trust me on that fact.

I’m a fan…thru and thru…as always, I will support the players drafted, whoever they are.
But I don’t believe Richardson will be a Buc UNLESS Claiborne is gone. I can see the Bucs taking Richardson over Kalil…although I would not do so. But really, I would be happy with either of them or Kuechkly (however it’s spelled…I always forget for some reason).

Joe, please stop with the “Bucs already have a proven running back” nonsense. yes he had a great rookie year, when nobody knew about him. and then he had a very mediocre year. yes, i agree that he wasn’t properly utilized for the majority of the season. but when he was used, he was underwhelming for the most part and he lost 3 fumbles with only about 200 touches. fumbling 9 times and losing 6 of them in under 400 career carries is not what i would consider proven. for the sake of comparison, Ray Rice lost 2 fumbles last year in over 370 touches. i know fumbling issues can be fixed (i.e.- Tiki Barber) and i do agree he has talent, but lets stop making it like its a terrible idea to bring in some top notch talent to push him.
and before all u people jump on me and point out the awesome run against Green Bay….one impressive run does not make a “productive” season.

drafting for need and not taking the best player on the board has gotten us into the crap that we are in now. dumb dumb theory. we’ve passed on the best player so many times over the last decade and im sick of watching those players kick our ass week in and week out. enough of that foolishness.

Jim Brown is right on the money. His speed isn’t all that impressive and after a few years of NFL pounding he will be downright slow. The worst thing that could happen to this team is for the Trent Richardson fans to get exactly what they want, it will set this franchise back a few years, particularly if we traded up, wasting an early draft pick on an expendable position does little help a team. If we were stupid enough to trade up and take Richardson, I’m not sure I could take it. After disagreeing vehemently when the Bucs took Clayton and I wanted Steven Jackson, then the next year when they took Cadillac and I wanted Merriman or Ware, or in 2007 when they took Adams and I wanted Patrick Willis. I’m not sure I could take the Bucs front office continuing to be a way worse talent evaluator than I am.

No one said richardson isn’t a good back and won’t have a productive career… just that he’s no second coming and this team needs much more than any one player can provide… with that said I maybe wrong but I doubt it… and I’m a die hard buc fan and if this kid is half as good as his supporters claim then by all means make it happen..

Seriously, you can say Blount is capable, but proven, COME ON! No one is proven after 2 years (and only one of which was a good one). Even if he was completely misused, that still doesn’t mean he is proven. It means he has the potential to be good. Is Freeman proven? Is Gerald McCoy proven (that one’s for Thomas)? Is Mike Williams proven? No, no, and no. Ronde Barber is proven. Davin Joseph and Donald Penn are proven. That’s about it on our team. You are completely misusing the word to suit your opinion.
