Trading Up For … Morris Claiborne
April 26th, 2012Bucs fans might want to be sure not to spend the early minutes of tonight’s NFL Draft chattering with the pizza guy or in the men’s room at Pete & Shorty’s, so says BSPN draft analyst and former NFL offensive linemen Mark Schlereth.
Schlereth, sporting his three Super Bowl rings, believes the Bucs might get “cold feet” with the fifth overall pick and trade up to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 3 to draft Morris Claiborne.
That’s right. Claiborne.
Schlereth told WHBO-AM 1040 host Tom Krasniqi yesterday that he believes the smoke coming out of Minnesota is a calculated mission by the Vikings to get the Bucs to trade up. Schlereth is of the mind that Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier is drooling over what he’s seen on tape of Claiborne and the Bucs will have a similar grade and feeling.
It’s yet another interesting scenario to consider.
On the Trent Richardson front, Schlereth said he firmly believes any team can grab a successful back in later rounds or off the street with the right offensive line in front of him. However, Schlereth thinks that’s a dumb argument to make against drafting Richardson, who Schlereth thinks would simply be that much more effective than the next guy in the same system.

Lets tear the draft up.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:05 am
I agree CB has more value but to pretend Claiborne is that much better than Richardson is a joke.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:08 am
Skills aside, Richardson I like better as a person from interviews I have seen. The guy just seems to have more depth than Momo.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:11 am
Let’s hope not ?
April 26th, 2012 at 9:11 am
Uhm sorry schlereth. No way in hell do we trade up in this draft and give up more picks to move up 2 spots for anyone.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:12 am
I cant wait till the draft begins,Im happy with t rich,Mo,or what I would really love is to trade down and get LUUUUUUUUUke Keuchly and another 2 and 3rd.Its sad that the biggest reason I want T rich is that it will help sell tickets so I can watch the home games this year.
Give me a hell yah if your pumped for the draft.
Tampaaaaaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaaaay

SCROLL DOWN to get all the details on Joe’s blowout draft party tonight.
BE there!
April 26th, 2012 at 9:18 am
I wish I had a fast forward button for today. UGH time is going to go by sooo slow!
April 26th, 2012 at 9:25 am
I predict Claiborne to be gone at 3. At which time, Buffalo is on the phone with Dominick to swap 5th and 10th pick and Buffalo’s second round pick. Buffalo will choose Kalil and Tampa Bay will choose Gilmore or Keuchly…depending on who Schiano/Davis/Sheridan like better between the two.
In the second round, either the BPA at the cornerback and LB position or double up on one of these positions.
Third round…RB.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:26 am
Is anyone else completely burnt out on draft talk? Seriously. I LOVE football and reading articles and speculating, but wow. It’s like overload of nonsense. No one knows anything. The real stories don’t start until after actual selections have been made. The past three months or more have just been background noise. Yet like all of us, we’re still strangely drawn to it. It all ends in a few hours. Thank you! All we can do now is hope for the best for our Bucs. Go Bucs!
April 26th, 2012 at 9:32 am
God I hope we don’t trade down to get Ruud II. If Mark D wanted another Ruud, he would have kept the oringinal.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:35 am
I have it on good authority that the Bucs are not willing to trade up and that it would take a very good offer for them to consider moving down more than a few spots. They are very happy with their current position in the first round.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:38 am
Stand Pat..Take BPA…if it’s Kali..we will get offers…We need more than one player
April 26th, 2012 at 9:39 am
If we move up to #3 it would be for Trent not Morris and I don’t see this scenario happening. We will sit pat at #5 and if we aren’t interested in who is available we will entertain offers to trade down.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:42 am
Its a bluff…Minnesota needs a left tackle more than anything. if they DO take Clairborne, so be it. Just draft Keuchly with #5 and pick up the best corner you can with our top 2nd round pick. I dont see how any of you can seriously argue that we need a RB more than a CB/S or a LB.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:46 am
Joe, I got it! If Richardson is the pick. Coach Sullivan can implement a scheme/system that include Blount and Richardson on the field simultaneously. In certain packages Blount would play tailback or fullback and in different offensive sets Richardson would play tailback or flanker. This would make our offense dynamic and multidimensional
April 26th, 2012 at 9:50 am
The way our great GM covets draft picks there is no way we trade up. And if we did it would be to get Richardson. Clayborne is not worth a trade up at all. I predict Dominick stays put and will let the draft come to him. It will be, based on availability, either Richardson, Clayborne, or Kuckely (sp?). in that order.
With that said Dominick has to feel his butt puckering cause if he doesnt nail an elite player this will be his last draft. I’m ready for the Bucs to hire Polian. This guy knows his stuff and makes the 4 letter network watchable when not veiwing the nfl network.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:53 am
Is it 8pm yet.I still cant get over the fact we might miss most every home game.Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
April 26th, 2012 at 9:58 am
No Way!! Be honest I’d rather take Mark Barron over Luke Kuechly if we can’t trade down, but I would not be moving up, we need our picks.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:00 am
Richardson, Claibourne, Kalil @ #5
If not, trade down and grab Keuchly.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:00 am
Just stop with the Minnesota nonsense. Please.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:02 am
Can’t figure out why anyone would watch ESPN for draft news or coverage. Its a baseball/NBA network.
Let the men over on the NFL Network handle the draft.

.
While I agree we won’t trade up, this statement is completely inaccurate given recent history. There is a reason we only have 6 picks. Dominick loves to trade up in the first round…even if only be a couple spots.
But it won’t happen this year.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:07 am
All I have to say is that I really do hope the Buccaneers DO NOT trade up for anyone and give up the second roun pick, that would be super stupid. They need to go with LSU STUD Morris C. if he’s not there trade down a few spots and go with Luke K. and pick up another second then draft RB Doug Martin in the second round. We already have a RB that can pound the rock we dont need anotherone with Richardson.Call me if you need my services Mr.Rockstar.

Because I can’t get NFL Network where I’m at and I don’t know of a stream. If you know of a stream, please let me know pd@petedutcher dot com.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:07 am
I think Pete Dutcher is right on! The Bucs won’t move up or down because one of the players they are looking for WILL be there. I’m starting to hear the rumor mill really crank up for Trent Richardson. I think the Bucs are higher on this guy than people think. Besides the fact that he could be a force driving up ticket sales!

Go get Sirius and listen to Sirius NFL Radio then.
ESPN is a joke.
Its like getting your regular news from the Onion.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:19 am
Richardson would not only drive up ticket sales, he would also light up the score board.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:22 am
Whoever said the Kuechly is Rudd the II is a complete MORRON AND HAS NEVER SEEN HIM PLAY. I never saw Ruud make a takle in the box like this guy does and Ruud was horrible in coverage to, I lost count on how many times he got burned by the competition tight ends and running backs.Oh and did I mention he’s also faster. This guy is gonna be a pro bowler for years to come.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:23 am
I dont know…..I wish there was another 250 mock drafts and pre-draft articles!
Seeriously, THANK GOODNESS the 1st round speculation ends tonight!
April 26th, 2012 at 10:24 am
If we have to trade up to get Claiborne, then that’s the right move.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:31 am
Trading up is out of the deal and not the right move.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:32 am
Don’t do it!!!!
Hold on to Number 5.
Worst thing that happens is that the Bucs have to choose between Kuechly and T.Richardson
April 26th, 2012 at 10:34 am
SteveK- no, we are not drafting Richardson.
Stop
April 26th, 2012 at 10:45 am
I don’t post a lot but this has become tiresome of all the “fans” saying trade up for Richardson. I remember the Aints doing that back a few years ago with someone named Ricky Williams but he didn’t even get them to the playoffs. The Bucs WILL NOT trade up because we only have 6 picks. With those picks the following needs to be addressed: CB, RB (to compliment Blount), LB (or 2, or 3), Safety (or 2), DT (for depth), OT (to replace Trueblood next year), TE (Winslow is getting winded and slow). I count a minimum of 7 bodies. As I said before we have only 6 picks. They will try to trade back at some point to gain some additional players. Weather this happened in the first round remains to be seen. Go Bucs (and whoever we pick at 5)
April 26th, 2012 at 10:47 am
CapTim
Fly on the wall are we? You dont know, nor do we, who exactly ends up our pick.
What’s with all the negative animosity towards the T Rich pick anyways?…And please stop, don’t use “ommpa loompa”, “slow”, or “zombies” in your reponse!
April 26th, 2012 at 10:48 am
NFL.com has the stream !!!
April 26th, 2012 at 10:57 am
@ Tim
If Richardson is there @ 5 he is a Buc regardless of what you think… YOU stop.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:00 am
I cant believe some of you are suggesting trading up 2 spots and giving away picks for 1 player… Thats just silly with all the holes on this team. Moving up should not be an option for any player in the first round this year.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:02 am
USA Today said yesturday the Vikings GM put a ” For Sale sign ” on their pick .This could be to make a team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers move up to take Trent Richardson.
It also said more but you can read it.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:03 am
I must say, If the Bucs do move up for Claibourne then I will loose some respect for the people running this team! I don’t really see his play ability as being worth a 5th over all pick to be honest.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:15 am
Capt. Tim,
You Stop!
We are not trading up for a sissy tackling CB.
If we trade up, it is going to be for a freaking “bell cow”.
I agree our secondary is in shambles, but Trend Richardson is an absolute stud.
Your lovely DB prospect was scared to tackle him both times they played this year.
I wish you would stop naysaying against Trent Richardson, just admit he has all the tools, skills, and head on his shoulders to be an absolute STUD in this league.
I question Morris Claibourne’s willingness to tackle. He is a gifted athelete, but didnt start playing CB until college.
He also scored a 4 on the wonderlic. May not apply much, but a hole in his game.
Compare his stats and measureables to Patrick Peterson:
Slower, not as good a test taker, and a very large discrepency in # of tackles.
Sorry Timbo, but Richardson is a much better prospect then Claibourne.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:18 am
If Morris Claibourne were Charles Woodson, then YES, you trade up in a heart beat.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:41 am
Everybody and their brother has heard the Minn/Tampa rumor and is running with it. Heard John Clayton on with Mike & Mike this morning going on & on about how the Bucs were really close to trading up. REALLY don’t see that happening, but I guess we’ll find out in about 9 hours. If anything, think they’ll go in the opposite direction if the right offer comes along.

I actually agree with Mark. Minnesota needs to protect their 1st round pick last season in Ponder. He has been hurt in each of his past 3 seasons. I know they are in a passing division. But Kalil makes the most sense period. Minn has wanted to trade down for weeks and can’t find a partner to do so. So…what does a good GM do in that situation. Find a team within 2 or 3 spots down and say we are going to draft the guy you want. The problem is, no one believes them. Or if they do, you might be talking out of your ___. Stay at #5 and get Mo, Kalil, or Blackmon.
I do like the Buffalo rumor and trading back to # 10. But they would have to give up more than just a 2nd round pick to get up to 5. Get their 2nd and 4th and call it a trade. But I truly believe Minn will take Kalil to protect Ponder, Clev get TR3, and Tampa ends up with Mo!! Thats not only what I want to happen. But what I feel will happen.
April 26th, 2012 at 3:21 pm
We’re not trading up at all. Not for Richardson and not for Claiborne.
