Jets Eyeballing Richardson
April 25th, 2012It’s the silly season of crazy draft rumors and smokescreens, and here’s a new one that will punch the Trent Richardson-to-the-Bucs crazies in the gut.
Sal Paolantonio of BSPN just reported that he talked to Trent Richardson who had just heard from Jets officials calling him to confirm his contact information on Day 1 of the draft. Paolantonio also said he had recently concluded a meeting with Rex Ryan and Jets officials that told him they like Richarson and that Ryan longs to see Richardson’s feet to get back to his core beliefs of pounding the football.
(Side note: Paolantonio was extraordinarily rude to Joe about 10 years ago in the Bucs locker room. Who knew a grown man could be such a weasel just because Joe stepped on his microphone wire that wasn’t even in use.)
As Joe wrote the other day, if Richardson truly is the prodigy everyone seems to think he is, then there’s no way he lasts to the Bucs at No. 5. If he did, that would be a truly bizarre occurence and it would make Joe wonder if Richardson really looks that good on film.
Of course, the Bucs could always trade up for Richardson, a move Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski says he would applaud.
April 25th, 2012 at 1:50 pm
Joe, creepiest picture ever. I don’t even want to think about that!!! Don’t remind us!
April 25th, 2012 at 1:53 pm
Why would the commish applaude a trade up??? We would have to give up our 2nd round and probably 3rd round to do it. If we didn’t have a ton of holes to replace on D maybe. But we do have those holes so I would be irrate, probably throwing my beer at the flat screen, and then prob. flipping the couch or something as well. No way does that happen. But if a team wants him bad enough they will have to move up to #3 in front of Cleveland. If not the Browns will be drafting him. Don’t forget he already put a pic on twitter with a Browns hat in it!
April 25th, 2012 at 1:56 pm
i like fat feet
April 25th, 2012 at 2:04 pm
Agree with Funkey, we have WAY go many holes on Defense to be trading picks away for a Position in which we have a serviceable 1 at for now. D on the other hand, we need a true #1 CB, two LBs and atleast a S.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:05 pm
you see me and the Commish are tight like that broski’s….I’ve been sayin throughout the threads trade a pick Next year and move up to get Richardson. We still have plenty of picks this year for defense….
April 25th, 2012 at 2:08 pm
i say trade up. give them this years 2nd and next years 3rd, the draft is loaded with CB and WR in the later rounds. people keep for getting its a win now league and how many times are you gonna get a chance to draft a RB of his caliber. im tired of hearing “trade down and get picks”, thats basicly sayin “we dont wanna win this year, we’re looking into next years draft”. thats the dumbest thing ive evr heard of. Blount and TR would open the opposing teams secondary so much that Free and the WR would have all day to complete passes. please trade up for TR, and if you dont oh well im not gonna hate my Bucs for it. love this team!!! BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
April 25th, 2012 at 2:11 pm
I’d love to trade up for Richardson, but unfortunately we need almost an entire defense.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:13 pm
Anyone think of any potential “cap casulties” that could help our D?
We still have some payroll to go shopping when other teams have to cut some salary.
I hope we can get an impact player.
Kind of like when we let John Lynch go, and then the Broncos picked up Brian Dawkins right behind him.
I wish we could do something like that.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:17 pm
you guys are really naive. you think trade ups come cheap every spot closer to one is more expensive than the spot before it. (example this isnt trading from 30 to 25, this is trading from 5 to 3.
no way. at all ever. it would be our 1, and 3 this year, a 2 and 3 next year if not both year’s ones
April 25th, 2012 at 2:18 pm
I say we trade up, give away our 2nd and 3rd round pick for the Sloooow Ompa loompa! Then, instead of watching the team play defense( which they can’t) , we watch Schiano and Dominick ( who will both be fired by week 8) beat the hell out of the idiots who suggested we draft a player we dont need.
Justin is a funny guy, but the draft ain’t his specialty. Remember last year- he said Clayborn wouldn’t last in the NFL, due to the Erbs palsy? Said we wouldn’t draft him!
Clayborn was a bright spot on the leagues worst defense
Ya want accuracy- ya trust the Capt. Who called Clayborn as the pick in Febuary!
Just like I called Claiborne this year
April 25th, 2012 at 2:19 pm
@SteveK
There’s really nobody out there now that could help our D, maybe a Saftey but it would be a older veteran.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:26 pm
(who would both be fired by week 8), beat the hell out of the idiots who cried for a player we didn’t need!
April 25th, 2012 at 2:28 pm
Okay, the anti-Richardson logic is that there is SO much interest in him, that if he falls to us at #5 we shouldn’t take him because in that case there’s obviously something wrong with him?
WTF kind of logic is that?
This is as tired a subject as they get. I’m hoping both Claiborne and Richardson are gone and someone packages picks to take the 5 spot for Kalil. If we could come away with a Dre Kirkpatrick and Doug Martin out of this draft we’d have hit the lottery.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:31 pm
Casual fans aside, that can see Richardson has GREAT talent, there seems to be a lot of professional NFLers that want Richardson.
I understand, I think he is that good.
Unless we move up, he won’t be there for us – and in no way is Mark giving up picks (unless it’s one next year…MAAAAYYYYBE, but even then it won’t be enough compensation vs other clubs).
It is a win now league and Mark is in win now (to save my job) mode. I think I’m ready for anything tomorrow.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:34 pm
humm, I’ve been saying this for over a month now that trading up for Richardson is a good smart move…Why? Just what Justin stated, a third and a little bit of something else maybe is all the bucs need to do to move up. Hey, look at the history of third round picks, do you really feel they are that valuable to not get a guy like TR? I don’t think Minn would want to move down past the 6th pick. The rams may have the best shot at getting him since they have the most ammo. The Jets, however, well their the Jets so you never know…
April 25th, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Trade up for TR is the way to go.
Now, had Patrick Peterson swapped places with Morris Claibourne, then we could stand still.
Claibourne lacks physicality, and is cover corner a major need in Schiano’s D?
A “bell cow” is needed with Schiano’s scheme.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:49 pm
LMAO nice pic Joe! I just wish this draft would hurry up already, so tired of draft talk. Were guarenteed to get a good player at 5 so Ill be happy with TR, Claiborne, Keuckly, or kalil. Although I’d pick Kueckly over Kalil.
April 25th, 2012 at 2:53 pm
we are in a great position to trade up. better position than the the jets or anybody else except for the browns. The viking will still get the player they want(claiborne or kalil) and they get a extra pick next year…
April 25th, 2012 at 2:54 pm
“I have pretty feet”-err, well, I have seen them and NO she does not! You can almost smell them in the vids and the creepy way he looks at them, eck!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the rant. Let’s be honest. Our team needs help, lots of help. If we land an impact starting player with the first pick and two other servicable starters from the rest of the draft, this will have been a good draft. It will not matter where they start, which side of the ball they start on, all that matters this year is that we get better players on the field. RB or CB or even LT would be fine at #5. Just join Joe at the watch party and enjoy a few brews. 🙂
April 25th, 2012 at 2:55 pm
Ya those damn 3rd round picks have no value. Ronde Barber says hi.
April 25th, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Ronde was an awesome 3rd round pick.
Other 3rd rounders include: Quincy Jane Black, Myron I can’t cover Lewis, and Chris I’m not that good Sims.
Our draft history for 3rd rounders is mediocre at best.
Parting with a 3rd rounder to secure “the guy” Dom, Schiano, Davis and crew want is well worth it.
April 25th, 2012 at 3:08 pm
@Dan – you’re the one that is being naive if you think it costs that much to move up two spots. Its about leverage. If the Vikings want Kalil they can take him at 3, or they can take a 3rd this year or a 2nd next year and take the player they want at 5. It would cost the Jets that much to move up to #3 but there’s no way it would cost that much to move from 5 to 3.
April 25th, 2012 at 3:10 pm
Is it just me but the Kalil pick doesnt seem like a fun pick compared to MC , richardson, and you could even say blackmon?
April 25th, 2012 at 3:13 pm
prove it? show me someone who has moved up to NUMBER 3 EVER with a second round pic the following year, or even 2 picks the following year?
April 25th, 2012 at 3:14 pm
especially if we are going to be in a bidding war
April 25th, 2012 at 3:22 pm
Guys on ESPN (McShay, Polian, Herm & Wingo) were just going over trade scenarios. They said if we give up our 1st, 3rd & 6th Minnesota would take it. Entertaining stuff!
April 25th, 2012 at 3:26 pm
Asante Samuels is now a falcon for a six round pick and he restructured his contract for 3 year 18 mil. I think we missed out. He would have upgraded our defense.
April 25th, 2012 at 3:35 pm
according to mel kiper and todd scshay, we will miss out on both claiborne and richardson… if thats the case i say we trade down, maybe take luke kuechly or stephon gilmore and hopefully get another 2nd rounded where we could pick up another running back and lb/db
April 25th, 2012 at 3:52 pm
Wow…..the Eric Wright deal is now officially retarded! Look at what the Falcons got Samuels for!
April 25th, 2012 at 3:58 pm
So let me get this straight: if Richardson slides to #5, then that means there is something on film that says he isn’t any good? Really? I think all this draft talk has finally made you lose it. Yesterday you wouldn’t want the next Shaun Alexander because he wasn’t tearing it up at 30, and now this! Then to top it all off we’ve got Capt. Tim saying the experts get more honest as the draft gets closer! Thursday can’t get here soon enough.
April 25th, 2012 at 3:59 pm
Captain Tim,
You call T Rich an “oompa loompa” – have you ever seen Lagerrette Blount – dude is loose and has way too much body fat.
T Rich is ripped – check out this picture.
http://alabama.247sports.com/Article/Richardson-Barron-impress-scouts-67948
Versus Blount:
http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0316/nfl_blount01_600.jpg
OOmpa Loompa?? – Again Capt Tim is clueless.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:03 pm
Wow, we sign Eric Wright and the Falcons get Asante, We trade for Win-slow and Atlanta trades for Tony Gonzalez. Why is Atlanta always getting the better players???
April 25th, 2012 at 4:07 pm
I don’t think trading up is something I can live with unless Richardson can run on water. Though I know Rome wasn’t built in a day, we already have so few selections in the draft. I would really like to see us have more picks so that we have more quality players to evaluate in training camp. I will be fine with most of the prospects at 5 but moving up when we are at #5 is not something im interested in.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:15 pm
@ Steve
Yes a cover corner is coveted by Schiano. Looking at Rutgers he doesn’t seem to play Zone as much as Man.
So having a talent like Claiborne who can be left on an island with WR’s is worth the pick.
I’ll be happy with what ever happens tomorrow. TR, Claiborne, trade down or whatever. We should definetk walk out of this draft with at least 1 strong impact player regardless.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:18 pm
@ Capt. Tim
Dude Blount is literally like HALF that size now. HAHA sir you crack me up sometimes.
Reports also show he has again shed a few more pounds this off season and seems to look leaner and stronger this year.
No he is not a rambo sculpted body tho. Richardson is just a beast of an athlete period now way to compare the 2 bodies.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:22 pm
Quit with the “making it to the Bucs at 5” talk. The first two picks are already in. This is a top 3 pick and the team with the #1 pick currently (Vikings) doesn’t need a running back. I’m not for trading up, but if he’s there – take him. Doesn’t sound like Claiborne will be there either. Get an impact player – period!
April 25th, 2012 at 4:23 pm
Capt. Tim has no clue of anything about Richardson. He’s obviously never seen him play (he’s said in the past he doesn’t watch college football). He claims he wants good guys in the community, but obviously doesn’t care that much because if he did, he would be screaming for Richardson. His opinion is completely worthless.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:36 pm
@the buc realist
Right? i was wondering the same thing.

see not just a fat guy lols.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:42 pm
I’m giving credit where credit is due…I seem to recall Capt. Tim hitting on several predictions last year.
April 25th, 2012 at 4:48 pm
So, it’s Capt Nostradumbass then!
April 25th, 2012 at 4:51 pm
He has also predicted that Richardson is going in the 20s. Do you think he is going to be right about that one?
April 25th, 2012 at 4:53 pm
OAR,
LOL Good one!
April 25th, 2012 at 4:54 pm
Hawaiian,
Right!
Richardson is absolute stud and work horse.
He will be awesome for the Bucs.
We need to trade up and secure this guy, no BS.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:12 pm
For all the great crap some of you put out guess what. You DON’T know who will be picked anymore than the Bucs do. And why you ask? Nobody knows who will be there for sure at what pick. Anything can happen. So far the only thing I have seen is from the Colts who say Luck is their pick. Do we know that is true?? You are no great NFL GM. Just guessing and thinking you could be right.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:29 pm
The commish does bring up some valid points for trading up. Then again, I doubt the anti-TR crowd would bother reading the article. We seem to always be one pick too late, and we never seem to get that dominant, elite player. Is it better to have one elite player, or 2 or 3 serviceable players? We’ve gone the latter route for an awfully long time. It may be time for a change.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:32 pm
BucFan20,
You are right, nobody knows for sure, hence the excitement.
Personally, I enjoy the clamouring over this selection. It is awesome to get fellow Bucs Fanatics’ opinions.
We are all in “Dream Mode”, and that is good. The # 5 pick is the one good thing about 4-12.
Also, The Colts have announced on Tuesday that Andrew Luck is the 1st pick.
So # 2 your on the clock….
April 25th, 2012 at 5:35 pm
Hawaiian,
Exactly, The Commish pointed out our 3rd round picks over thet last 10 years.
Why not trade the 3rd rounder and get a bonafide “impact” player?
I am all for it, Bucs need more “elite” talent.
Right now, we have a pair of elite Guards, and a darn good O- tackle.
Trade up and let’s get some star power.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:40 pm
Yeah, I never really understood why we would place so much value on a 3rd rounder, especially if that is all you need to get the guy you want. I have a feeling the Vikings would want more than that, but if not its a no brainer. We just haven’t shown that we can draft well in the third, so why not give up the next Myron Lewis? It will be tough, but I will be able to move on.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:45 pm
Exactly, we can spare ourselves another Roy Miller or Q. Jane Black.
Send Minnesota: 1, 3, 5 picks at the max for the trade up.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:59 pm
Trading a spot or two, up or down isn’t that bad. The only comparable to our situation was in 2008. Saints and Patriots flip flopped from 7th overall to 10th overall. The cost was a flip flop of that year’s 3rd and 5th rounders. Not even a straight up pick! Granted I only did a quick search of the last 7 or 8 years. Also, most trades involved moving way further up or down than just 2 or 3 spots, and involved a QB being targeted (more expensive).
April 25th, 2012 at 7:02 pm
What do we have to lose?
Upgrading to a mere eight game losing syreak?
Mo aint even a good tackler. He isnt gonna stop Brees. Nobody does. How many did they score on the Giants?
WE need to score!
April 25th, 2012 at 7:23 pm
that picture is hilarious
April 25th, 2012 at 7:27 pm
I don’t know Eric, the way these guys are talking, Claiborne may get a pick 6 every week!
April 25th, 2012 at 7:40 pm
Everybody relax, tomorrow get a 12 pack of your favorite beer, sit in front of your flat screen and watch the Bucs select Kalil at the #5 pick.
I’ve been saying it for 6 weeks now, Kalil is the man. You can pencil his name into the Ring of Honor, right between Jimmie Giles and Leroy Selmon. It will be about 18 years before they color in those letters but it’s a sure thing.
I never said to panic, trade up and mortgage our future to secure him, just to be patient. It’s our destiny.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:54 pm
THis is the same tim who says we should cut aquib talib, and draft dennard the cop beater. Tims takes are officially the worst.
April 25th, 2012 at 11:12 pm
I tell you what I might not be sold on the kalil pick but having trent richardson wont matter if we have the best o-line in football.. any NFL running back will be able to get 1000 yards…
April 26th, 2012 at 12:03 am
@Nate,
Agreed, but what would you say if we could get a back that could get 1800 yards instead of 1000? That’s how much potential Richardson has. This is the very reason why he is the perfect pick for us, because we now have such a great offensive line. Having a great RB does very little good if you have a poor offensive line, but when you give a great Rb a great offensive line, great things happen. This is going to help the receivers (more single coverage because teams will be almost forced to put 7-8 guys in the box on every snap), it’s going to help Freeman, and it’s going to help the defense (keeping them off the field and rested). Even Blount will benefit from Richardson (and vice versa), because we will continue to pound them snap after snap, and there is nothing they can do about it. And oh yeah, he will also be one of the best pass-catching RB’s, and he will protect Freeman in pass protection as well. You know he’s the right guy when the only negative thing you can say about him is “he’s not in a position of need” and “you shouldn’t draft a RB that early”. Notice how you don’t hear anything negative about him as a player, not even anything off the field. He’s as much of a sure thing as anyone in this draft (although no one is a sure thing).
April 26th, 2012 at 12:58 am
Lmao- richardson( 5’8″, slooooww) is the funniest league wide sole screen in years. Even Rex Ryan had to get in on it!!
One more day, til sad times for the ” we love you Trent” club!
Then, I’ll really be laughing out loud!
April 26th, 2012 at 3:10 am
Hey Tim,
Betcha TR is off the board by the 5th pick.
When that happens, you are WRONG.
Richardson is going to be awesome, and you will be proved wrong.
Go ahead and keep griping about your DB that can’t get physical.
April 26th, 2012 at 4:09 am
Again genius, since when does height have anything to do with being a RB? You actually prefer your RB’s to be shorter dumb arse! I don’t know if you really are this moronic, or if you are doing it in an attempt to irritate people, but either way I feel sorry for you.
I bet your are such a little pansy that you don’t show up on this board tomorrow when he gets picked in the top 5, because he isn’t making it past us. You can bank on that. I just hope we get him at number 5, because every time he runs for 100+ yards in a game, I’m going to bring it up to you. And good news for the real buc fans, that’s going to happen on a regular basis. Only scrubs like you will be upset about it, because you care more about being right than this team winning games.
April 26th, 2012 at 4:11 am
“One more day, til sad times for the ” we love you Trent” club!
Then, I’ll really be laughing out loud!”
———
And you wonder why every person on this board can’t stand you???
April 26th, 2012 at 6:25 am
Yeah- Tim Ryan, Dave Moore, Joe, and I are all wrong
And you” we lOve you Trent ” boys are right
Lol
April 26th, 2012 at 11:11 am
The j-e-t-s s-u-c-k !!!! Who cares , hope they go 1-15 this year . Tired of hearing about them .
April 26th, 2012 at 12:45 pm
“Yeah- Tim Ryan, Dave Moore, Joe, and I are all wrong
——–
That’s the who’s who of drafting expertise if I’ve ever seen it! Most of us think we know what is best for the team, but at the end of the day know we don’t. You, on the other hand, are actually stupid enough to believe you are an expert. Let me break the news to you: You are nothing. Your opinion is nothing. You would get laughed out of a room with any and all NFL executives. The cockiness of your posts are laughable, and believe me when I say none of us take you the least bit serious.
