Draft Talk Getting Out Of Control
April 25th, 2012For the first time Joe can ever remember, he just wants to hide somewhere away from any draft information until the beers begin pouring at Joe’s draft party Thursday night.
The speculating, posturing and — dare Joe say? — lying has reached crazy proportions.
All of a sudden yesterday, Joe heard things that made the antennae jump out of Joe’s head. For weeks, months, all Joe heard was that USC tackle Matt Kalil was an all-World offensive tackle, a franchise stud.
Now, thanks to a secretive offensive line coach talking (planting?) information to Pat Kirwan like Deep Throat, hiding in a parking garage in the dark of the night, all of a sudden Kalil is a no-good bum and another Robert Gallery?
Last night Tuna Parcells, who never won a championship without Bill Belicheat at his side, claims Alabama safety Mark Barron is a “box safety,” thus is not a first-rounder?
Parcells, a pillar of honesty, wouldn’t be playing BSPN so one of his boys still in the league (Jerry Jones, Belicheat, Tom Coughlin) might benefit from Barron sliding thanks to getting shat on from Parcells, on national TV no less, would he?
Where was all of this talk at the Senior Bowl?
Another crazy item comes from Andy Benoit of the New York Times. He recently Twittered about Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly.
Benoit is an avowed Barrett Ruud hater. To Benoit, Ruud is a walking version of an Ebola virus. When stuck for something to write, Benoit salves his inner writer’s cramp and will type many dozens of words about how Ruud has stained the soil of NFL playing fields.
Now Benoit is trying to sully the name of Kuechly by comparing him to a young version of Ruud.
@Andy_Benoit: In the very, very little I’ve seen of Luke Kuechly, he seemed like a faster Barrett Ruud (not a compliment).
Couple of things: First, this comparison is nearly as bad as Benoit’s attempt to document how baseball is dead. Strange, the game has never been better, financially. Eh, an annoying fact.
But trying to cut the knees out from Kuechly because he is another Ruud is crazy on many levels.
Now Joe knows many Bucs fans hated Ruud as well because they wanted Ruud to be a Jack Lambert-type when that is not the position he played in a Tampa-2 defense (there’s another one of those irritating facts).
So Kuechly is rotten because he covers receivers well and racks up tackles like Joe does beers on a Friday night, all of which were traits of Ruud (not the beers)? My, how horrible of a linebacker that is!
Or is Benoit irritated that Kuechly is white?
If, as Benoit suggests, Ruud was so miserable, how is it — just as Tim Ryan of SiriusXM NFL Radio correctly predicted — the Bucs defense totally collapsed to a historic franchise low without him. The Bucs linebackers unit may very have been the worst in the NFL.
If, again, as Benoit believes, Ruud was so pathetic, shouldn’t the Bucs linebacker play have improved without him? No?
At least Joe gives many props to Benoit for being honest and claiming he hasn’t really watched Kuechly play.
But this is the silly season (on steroids) we are in, where nothing is really to be believed on face value.
Damn, the clock can’t begin to start soon enough for the Colts to satisfy Joe.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:08 am
@ joe….there is talk of the Bucs trading picks with the Vikings and giving a 2nd OR a 3rd next year to move up to 3 to get Richardson. thoughts ?
I would rather get claibourne myself.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:11 am
It’s all talk about a week before the draft and it means nothing.
36 hours and counting…
April 25th, 2012 at 8:12 am
Btw Hightower is a better MLB than Kuechly imo. And if not for the penalties and being a maniac Burfict could be a great MLB.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:13 am
@raphael, where is this talk coming from? Source? (see my post above, it probably applies)
April 25th, 2012 at 8:13 am
@ raphael
I think if that happened Joe being upset would be an understatement. Personally I wouldnt be happy if we traded up because its not worth it there are plenty of other good players to be had at #5. If anything I would like to trade back.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:17 am
Tis the season for lies, smokescreens, and obfuscations.
This will all be over soon. I can’t wait. After months I’m finally sick of draft speculation and just ready to see who we take!
April 25th, 2012 at 8:21 am
Wouldnt mind Burfict in the later rounds
April 25th, 2012 at 8:21 am
anyones thoughts?
April 25th, 2012 at 8:27 am
Draft Burflict in round 5 but yes draft him if he passes the Sheriff Schiano test of approval…. he brings so much intensity to that LB group.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:30 am
This draft season has been hilarious. There is generally people who pine for “their guy”, but this year it seems folks have gone out of their way with no regard spewing lies and rubbish to denigrate one potential draftee whilst boasting god like(“superhuman”) talents for “their guy”.
Hilarious draft season indeed.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:36 am
We need another hard hittin LB put him at mike move mason on the outside i like tht
April 25th, 2012 at 8:38 am
Burfict brings intensity?? If you say that try to tell me you watched a game of his last year at least I know your a liar.
I have rarely seen a player so disconnected from a game. He just jogged around like it was a walk through.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:44 am
The problem is lack of focus and discipline not intensity. When he gets his head into the game the talk is that he might be overly intense bordering on hellbent. When he is disengaged he looks like you are suggesting and loafs it up. Lots of talk on somebody sorting out his mental disconnection in a game and him being a good pro. It’s worth a chance just for his physicality.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:46 am
and sorry I wasn’t clear I agree with you he took way more snaps off then on in his entire college career including his work habits which makes people write him off as being not worth it and a head case.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:46 am
@Joe
Imo the reason for analysis of player being an allpro has to with 1 thing. Who’s opinions are smattered everywhere about draft prospects?? GMs ?? Scouts ?? Or media draft junkies that basically repeat what the other media guy said??
For example, Mike Lombardi now has DE Chandler Jones possibly a top 10 pick. Where was this guy all offseason in mocks?? A late riser or media just finally catching up with what some scouts have known since January.
Point is most of the medias opinion is based on other media opinions and from clips on youtube because they don’t have game film access.
April 25th, 2012 at 8:49 am
I was willing to give Burfict a chance till he showed up at the combine out of shape and ran slower than Dontari Poe. LoL
April 25th, 2012 at 8:57 am
Put Poe in at backer…. that’ll plug the run….
April 25th, 2012 at 9:00 am
@bucfanjeff seen it on buccaneertalk facebook..
April 25th, 2012 at 9:01 am
Also heard that Falcons will finalize deal for Asante Samuel by the end of the day..
April 25th, 2012 at 9:02 am
PFT is reporting Asante deal to Falcons
April 25th, 2012 at 9:04 am
Great Asante to Falcons ughhh! I might be crazy but I agree with McShay and think the Bucs will take Kuechly at #5 if a) Claibourne and Richardson are gone, b) if they cannot trade down a few spots. I just have to think someone would want to trade to five and take Kalil.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:06 am
Asante and Grimes will be the best CB tandem in the NFL on a team with one of the best WR tandems. Scary thought. Glad the Bucs picked up Vincent Jackson.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:09 am
Asante cnt tackle and he kind of overrated to me
April 25th, 2012 at 9:13 am
I heard from Mayock, I think, that Burfict will go undrafted.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:14 am
Joe,
We know you like Ruud, but we were not looking for Lambert, we were looking for Quarles, and we didn’t get him. And speaking of annoying facts, the guy you wanted to pay $8 million, just signed a one year deal for the veteran minimum, all 32 teams disagree with you. And remember Ruud just got releases by two teams in two years for two different third round picks.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:14 am
@deminion He is not a great tackler, but that isn’t what he is paid to do. He shuts down his receiver and creates takeaways consistently. He is one of the best at his job and so is Grimes.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:19 am
That’s a tough CB tandem, I agree with Benoit! Kuechly is a faster Ruud!
Would rather have Hightower, or Ronnell Lewis later in the draft. Why can’t we convert a small fast linebacker to SS (like we did with Lynch), the draft is flooded with undersized fast LBs with great Instincts!
April 25th, 2012 at 9:20 am
Nothing like an opinion from someone who didnt bother taking the time to study…..Waste!!!!
April 25th, 2012 at 9:21 am
@have a nice day
seemed like a desperation move by the falcons he is sold but a shutdown corner ? i hve to disagree ive seen get picked on by other team and torched by other WR’s
April 25th, 2012 at 9:22 am
my bad solid DB
April 25th, 2012 at 9:25 am
So if Benoit hasn’t even seen much of Kuechly, why is he commenting on his ability as a player? All he’s done is make himself look like an idiot because Kuechly is 100x the player Ruud is.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:27 am
And Joe’s love for Ruud is also ridiculous at this point. Ruud was let go by the Bucs in favor of a rookie mid-rounder, went to the Titans where he got shown up by a rookie mid-rounder, and now he’s in Seattle where they have absolutely no one to play LB, and he’ll probably get beat out by a rookie again. Does that sound like a good LB to you?
April 25th, 2012 at 9:28 am
Greg Cosell (who seems to be an objective 3rd party) made specific note on How Barron could cover and was effective against TE’s…
April 25th, 2012 at 9:34 am
Seen every BC game the last year and most of the year before, Kuechly’s stats are bloated with tackles Downfield and tackles on the sideline struggles to shed blocks. All you here is his D line is horrible sound familiar?
April 25th, 2012 at 9:35 am
TRADE DOWN GET SOME ADDITIONAL PICKS AND DRAFT HIGHTOWER
If Dont’a Hightower can move outside
“No doubt. He could play inside or outside ‘backer. He can play Mike or Will inside, strong side or weak side — he’s play ‘em both here. He can play outside. He’s been a designated pass rusher on third down for us. He’s also been a stand-up fourth rusher drop, X package when they put all the linebackers in there — he can play any one of those positions. He’s a very smart guy. He’s a signal caller that has really good leadership qualities and understands football extremely well and has a lot of diversity in terms of how you can use him. So…when you got guys that size, that speed and that athletic that do so many things, those guys don’t come around very often.”
NICK SABAN
Luke ‘The Overrated White Guy” Kuechly. He reminds me of every white overrated Penn State LB except he went to BC.
You go into dark alleys with Hightower and you come out alive. I don’t get that feeling with Luke.
Sorry Luke . Youre good I just like Hightower better.
Just for the record I am a white guy so this is not racially motivated.
Watch the tape and you will see how many tackles Luke is in on at the end of runs not the the beginning of runs.
I’m not interested in highlight tapes of Luke. Watch tapes of his competition against him and you will see he does not stand out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1bO123KOEM
The video does not lie
April 25th, 2012 at 9:36 am
Brain:
And how did that work out for the Bucs?
April 25th, 2012 at 9:38 am
Richardson is a must draft guy.
I would not be upset in the least if we trade up to get him.
Kind of like we should’ve would’ve could’ve traded up for:
Megatron, Suh.
Sacrificing a few picks is nothing when you can trade up and draft an absolute stud.
With that being said, please make sure to VOTE FOR CAM NEWTON on the Madden 2012 cover.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:39 am
Joe:
Ruud sucks, and we sucked with him and without him.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:41 am
Marques:
LOL Interesting. Joe read comparisons of Kuechly to Poz and Sean Lee.
Tell Joe how Poz and/or Sean Lee wouldn’t be an upgrade for the Bucs.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:44 am
SteveK:
Yup, so long as one doesn’t have to give up a No. 1 to trade up (which is very likely). Looks like the Bucs will be reaching and that is always a problem.
Sadly, the Bucs are not in any position where teams want to trade up with them. They are stuck at No. 5 unless they can trade up.
April 25th, 2012 at 9:45 am
@SteveK alrdy voted for em lol
April 25th, 2012 at 9:46 am
Trade trade trade up or down get impact player or more depth….
April 25th, 2012 at 9:49 am
Why do we have to go with the crowd everyone is building there D to stop the pass so why not build our O to exploit the weakness and ram the ball down there throat…
April 25th, 2012 at 9:53 am
Richardson is the 2012 version of Maurice Christopher Jones-Drew (Jaguars)
Nice player. Difference maker ? Worthy of the #5 pick ?
If you look at Maurice Christopher Jones-Drew body of work you could certainly argue that he was would be worthy of a #5 pick.
I believe that championship teams are built with great defence. Lets take care of the defence first. We need to be patient. We are not a superbowl team. So lets keep collecting high character physical intelligent defencive players.
Trade down get some assets and draft hightower.
Draft a running back like David Wilsen in the 3rd.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1bO123KOEM
Just remember where you read it first
April 25th, 2012 at 9:54 am
Ok there seems to be five players it sounds like pundits think we will take at #5; Claibourne, Richardson, Kalil, Blackmon or Kuechly. Is there anyone we are not thinking of?
April 25th, 2012 at 9:56 am
@deminion What if I told you only Darrelle Revis has allowed fewer receptions/snap over the past 2 seasons? What if I told you he only allowed 2 TDs in each of the past 2 seasons? What if I told you no one has forced a lower QB rating over the past two years? What if I told you only Charles Woodson has more ints over the past 4 seasons?
Still think he is only “solid” in coverage?
April 25th, 2012 at 9:57 am
Joe said: “…So Kuechly is rotten because he covers receivers well and racks up tackles like Joe does beers on a Friday night, all of which were traits of Ruud (not the beers)? My, how horrible of a linebacker that is!”
I wouldn’t say Kuechly is rotten, but I agree with Andy Benoit’s “eyeball test” because it’s the same impression I got of Kuechly too. To me, Kuechly is most effective from sideline to sideline. But if you ask him to stop a reasonably powerful back coming out of the gut, then you’re rolling the dice.
I agree most with this scouting report of Kuechly: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1031882-luke-kuechly-2012-nfl-draft-scouting-report
Excerpt:
“…Kuechly’s success in the NFL will be based solely on how well the defensive line in front of him plays. NFL guards, fullbacks and tight ends will dominate Kuechly at the point of attack. He is not the type of downhill linebacker who will crash the gaps and make plays at the line of scrimmage. INSTEAD, HE’LL FADE BACK AND MAKE PLAYS THREE, FIVE OR SEVEN YARDS DOWNFIELD…”
Sound familiar?
ETA: And why does it matter that he’s white? (confused)
April 25th, 2012 at 10:00 am
my question is do u go into gm having to gm plan around him? are u scared to throw his way? does he change the gm? is he a top 5 cb?
April 25th, 2012 at 10:00 am
@ joe what has Ruud done since he left ?
April 25th, 2012 at 10:06 am
@pewterc didn’t I just say allot of that? Will kuechly skip through another teams warm up NOPE I want that guy who isn’t afraid of anybody our team i’m not sure if he is in this draft, but I am sure its not kuechly!
April 25th, 2012 at 10:07 am
I hear we are considering trading up for luck, and will definitely take hi if he falls to us.
…#sarcasm
April 25th, 2012 at 10:11 am
@deminion Considering he is only second to Chris Gamble in fewest targets for a #1 CB over the past two years, including all those other stats, I find it hard to believe he isn’t being game planned for.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:11 am
* facepalm*
April 25th, 2012 at 10:14 am
raphael:
More importantly, how has the Bucs defense done since Ruud left?
April 25th, 2012 at 10:19 am
Asante Samuel to the falcons for a sixth rounder! What did I tell u yesterday? Smh
April 25th, 2012 at 10:21 am
even MORE importantly, imagine us with Freeman ANND RGIII, i hear he may slide to 5
April 25th, 2012 at 10:23 am
First Joe, draft talk always gets out of control – it is the nature of the beast.
You are victim as well be mistakenly continuing to bang the Mo Claiborne drum as the pick even if T Rich is there – you could not be more wrong.
I know its because you wrongly believe that Blount is a starting NFL RB, but you should look at Blount much more objectively. Art Valero said that it is accepted in league circles that Blount is not a feature NFL back after 2 seasons of evaluation.
Now as for Kuechly, I realize that Benoit uses it as a criticism when he compares Luke to Blount – but Benoit obviously doesn’t know LB play. The comparisons come from their common abilities to perform well in the passing game – Ruud was an excellent cover 2 backer and was/is respected around the league.
Kuechly is a little bigger than Ruud – similar in speed and instincts. I think that Kuechly is a slightly better prospect than Barrett.
I would not draft Kuechly #5 overall – I would trade back to the middle of the first if possible and then consider him.
It is foolish to reach for corners or middle linebackers solely because of need. I believe that there is probably not a GM who has Mo rated higher than T Rich – there is probably only 1 or 2 who have Mo rated higher than Kalil. Many will have Blackmon ahead of Mo.
The point: if the bucs move back it will be to avoid getting stuck with Claiborne. If someone trades up to 3 or 4 it is to get their hands on T Rich or Blackmon.
What does that tell you?
April 25th, 2012 at 10:23 am
@ dan …. wow 2 really stupid post in a row. Way to bring something intelligent to the conversation.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:24 am
@have a nice day
all these numbers and points are valid but he cn be had, so if he is matched up against VJax would u favor Samuel? thts basically my point
April 25th, 2012 at 10:24 am
Deminion, I also want Burfict specially after reading n seeing his workout video yesterday. This is a good write up on Burfict.http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2012/4/24/2968528/all-eyez-on-me-vontaze-burfict-tell-all-story-part-2
April 25th, 2012 at 10:25 am
@ thomas …there is good chance the bucs will move up to get Richardson
April 25th, 2012 at 10:27 am
6th round pick for Samuel! UGHHHHHH! Seriously wwe couldnt offer a 5?
April 25th, 2012 at 10:28 am
@Mbaby ima chk it out i saw the article on espn ima chk his wrk out
April 25th, 2012 at 10:31 am
Marques Dominique, 1 hit wonder, will probably draft Kuechly at #5 and not bother entertaining trade offers, because 1. Kuechly was a team captain and that’s all Marky Mark likes to draft and 2. Marcel Dominik shouldn’t be in charge of a Madden franchise, much less an NFL team. trading pics would be too difficult for him, as that would involve numbers and other icky things that would make his brain hurt.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:36 am
@Deminion Looking at Samuel’s proven consistency and Jackson’s proven inconsistency, I’d give the nod to Samuel for now.
Looks like we’ll find out 🙂
I should say this, I’m not sure how effective Samuels will be considering switching teams at his age. That said, he transitioned smoothly from NE to PHI so I’m betting on him.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:38 am
If Samuel goes for a 6th rounder, that’s a great move on the Falcons part. He was a top 3 corner statistically last year:
http://footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2012/best-cornerback-charting-stats-2011
April 25th, 2012 at 10:38 am
This is one of the drawbacks with waiting for the draft “paralysis by over-a analysis”. Several months ago some these guys such as Matt Kalil and Luke Kuechly were top players at their positions, now as coaches and scouts go over the film again and again they try to pick them apart. News flash none of these guys are finished products, its up to the coaches to refine their skill sets to help to be great.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:39 am
I wouldn’t mind a late late round pick on burfict, maybe his chip grows into Boulder..if not cut him like we have with allot of other late round picks
April 25th, 2012 at 10:40 am
Tim Ryan- the most intelligent Football analyst around- wasn’t the only one to predict the Bucs defense would fall apart without Ruud.
So did I
And Ruud or Kuechley either one would be a massive upgrade over wretchedly pathetic Quincy Jane black or Gino marshmallow Hayes.
They suck beyond words. Still the worst pair of OLBers in NFL history. Ever!
April 25th, 2012 at 10:41 am
Before you all get crazy about Assante, the guy is poison in the room and is a serial loafer. Unless they are paying him in wine and cheese; it’s not a good deal. If Vjax can’t toast him or Grimes we have just wasted 55.5555555555 million dollars.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:42 am
@Kgh4life 100% correct hopefully the new staff can mold and motivate these young men…
April 25th, 2012 at 10:42 am
After the draft we will 2 months of the “professionals” “tongue and cheek” commenting on why their team drafted poorly.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:47 am
Atlanta 10 mill to Grimes and 10 mill to Asante…thats alot of jack for 2 CB’s
April 25th, 2012 at 10:47 am
@ buCncRaZy
Doesn’t seem like Burfict fits the Schiano mold.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:51 am
I wonder who the Falcons are going to cut/restructure to make this and it’s draft picks a possibility.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:52 am
@ have a nice day
cnt wait to see
@ SensibleBuc
im never said his stats werent good, i just said he could be had.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:53 am
I would imagine Dunta has to be on the block considering he is scheduled to make $5 mil. An awful lot for a soon to be 3rd corner.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:54 am
Drafting at #5 is similar to eating. When you have been in starvation mode and come upon a banquet, you go for the meat, potatoes and veggies and skip the chocolaty concoctions. Trade down and accumulate.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:54 am
@ raphael
Dunta Robinson is in the 3rd year of a 6 year $57 million deal. He’ll make $5 million this year, then $8 million, then $11.5 million after that.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:55 am
Asante Samuel has been a joke since he left the Pats. Downhill ever since. ATL(no picks) is desperate and Asante will probably get a high ankle sprain walking out of the room right after he signs his contract. V Jax will own Asante twice a year.
Anyone but Burfict. He is one step below brain dead.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:55 am
dunta he bn stealin money since he’s bn there anyway
April 25th, 2012 at 10:55 am
$25.4 million for three CBs…..
April 25th, 2012 at 10:56 am
The Eagles are laughing all the way to cap room bank on ridding themselves of Messante…. there is a parade going on right now, the peasants are rejoicing.
I have a ton of buddies who are Eagles fans; I just got like 20 ecstatic texts….
April 25th, 2012 at 10:56 am
lol, like Tampa would draft RG3…if anything else, I hope he does fall to us so the Bucs get calls to trade down and get some more picks.
Joe, I agree that Barrett Ruud was a talented player, but I also feel he had passed his prime…as has been evidenced since he left.
And it doesn’t matter how things worked out for the Bucs…Foster’s results have zero bearing on the skills and abilities of Ruud.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:58 am
and didn’t Dunta already restructure this offseason? I think they told him…. you will do this or we will cut you instantly.
April 25th, 2012 at 10:59 am
Although I agree with Bill Parcells that the league is shifting to a 3 top CB need for defenses, where all 3 can play man coverage on first downs. I just don’t think Asante is the guy. 30 other teams thumbed their nose at him, but Atlanta knows more, the same team that donated an entire draft for Julio. Atlanta won’t even make the playoffs this year. They are headed in reverse.
April 25th, 2012 at 11:02 am
Why does my gut tell me the Bucs trade up to 4 with Cleveland to get T-Rich ???
April 25th, 2012 at 11:03 am
@Jvato Must have been bad eggs for breakfast 😉
April 25th, 2012 at 11:04 am
@ princespanky
He was making $6 mil now he’s making $5 because it was already fully guaranteed.
April 25th, 2012 at 11:04 am
haha
April 25th, 2012 at 11:06 am
@sensible Grimes makes 10 mill a year…and so does Asante unless he restructures
April 25th, 2012 at 11:10 am
@buCncRaZy
And you we’re absolutely right. Oh, and there is a player in this draft that teams will at least have to game plan for. Who is he???
Let’s see, which player would I rather have?
A) A talented Left Tackle.
B) A supreme corner with outstanding coverage and catching skills.
C) A supreme running back with outstanding catching skills AND the STRENGTH of an offensive lineman?
Hmmm…
I think we should try to trade UP.
April 25th, 2012 at 11:10 am
@Sensible
Thanks, I thought I read that somewhere. I bet they are regretting that guaranteed cheese now. The Falcons seem to have a direction in terms of strategy but if that’s the right direction is hard to say. They seem determined to make a run at the division, with a Saint franchise that is in complete disarray and young Bucs and Panthers teams.
Will it pay off? Watch them lose to the Eagles in the playoffs on a blown coverage by Samuel…. oh the justice.
April 25th, 2012 at 11:17 am
So PewterC, does that mean Richardson can play CB, OT, and RB for us?
You forgot that he can kick 65 yd field goals using only his mind, and can get 21 in blackjack with only 1 card.
I think he’s darn good too.. just having a little fun.
Still- if you think an elite RB is worth more than an elite CB, I present the Champ Bailey for Portis trade. Who got the better of that deal?
It’s all speculating right now though, as we don’t know who will pan out and who won’t I guess
April 25th, 2012 at 11:17 am
@Deminion, you are not doing Joe any favors by constantly using this blogs URL as your own in your posts.
You are confusing Google by having it associate Deminion with Joebucsfan.com
April 25th, 2012 at 11:25 am

welcome to team claiborne lol

I am 100% for getting the Shutdown corner … But Claiborne gives me some worry. I am not sure if he really is elite.
If someone said have a Top 3 RB to pair with Blount for 4-6 years or a solid CB that can be burned once a game, I go with RB.
It really is about BPA / Team needs now and next season =

“Getting” out of control? Its been out of control for weeks now.
I still believe all this Minnesota crap about taking Claiborne is all BS. They’re taking Kalil.
April 25th, 2012 at 11:48 am
@Camby LOL… But seriously, I think he brings more to the table than any other prospect other than the top two QB’s. He’ll change the face of a game more consistently than our other potential choices in the draft because he’s superior in many aspects AND will be around the ball more.
Not only will you get solid running, but you’ll virtually have another O-lineman in the backfield to protect Freeman. Not to mention an effective receiver out of the backfield, if Freeman has to get rid of the ball.
Kalil is good, but he only brings one aspect to the game (which is his job) and that’s blocking. I love Mo, but the “flow-of-the-game” has to come to him in order for him to be effective.
With TR, YOU CAN CREATE NIGHTMARES. Defenses will truly have to pick their poison. He takes the Bucs to the next level because he is excellent in the running game (vision & running), and the passing game (receiving & blocking).
RUNNING: A heavy dose of Nicks & crew with TR & Blount will wear defenses down.
PASSING: Vincent and an improved wr corp can get open because Nicks & crew will have an additional Lineman in the backfield to protect Freeman and buy time.
In essence, TR can be used to DICTATE games, where as for the others, the game has to come to them.

Morris Claiborne isn’t elite… He’s overrated. Proof is in all the vids of him whiffing and not getting off blocks. I rather have a average CB that can make the tackle in the situation he missed badly.

Richardson, The best Linebackers, or Safety at five will help the team the most. LBs and Saftey will help fix our Red Carpet run defense. Or at least attempt to do so. Brees, Ryan haven’t shut us out the past 2 years with basically the same corners. Ony GMC being hurt makes the difference in the second games vs saints and falcons.

Oh, and just to add, TR’s small stature will make him more difficult to see behind the O-lineman (sort of Warrick Dunnish but with much more strength). Not to mention he’s a quality guy who hails from the same area that Derrick Brooks and Emmitt Smith are from. The dude has a presence about him that I think will translate throughout the locker room.
Dominick, you’ve GOT TO GO GET THIS GUY!

I like your case Pewter, I would just hope he falls to us rather than having to trade up to get him. We need more draft picks if anything, and I might rather have Claiborne and my 2nd round pick over TR and then sitting there until the 3rd day of the draft.

I like zach brown in the 2nd round

$25.4 million for three CBs…..

I’d rather pay $600K for 2 doctors. And if one breaks, the other can fix it.

Tim your an idiot, we were dead last in defense with him and dead last with out him. He got cut by the titans, because he was outplayed by a rookie 3rd rounder. If it was such a mistake to let him go, wouldnt we have tried to sign him this offseason. Wow you said are defense would suck last year, you must be a prophet. Go away bag
April 25th, 2012 at 1:09 pm
I still chuckle at the thought that Ruud was the reason our defense collapsed this year. Sure it was…I mean Ruud was such a difference maker for the Titans right? How did his absence affect the Bucs? Well…it caused the Bucs to start out at 4-2. Now if you want to say someone affected the collapse of the Bucs defense then look at McCoy. When he left then things truly did turn south. Ruud wasn’t the cause. Injuries and a poor scheme were the cause. We’ll see how badly we miss Ruud this year because we will probably have essentially the same LB unit except for whomever we draft. Better coaching and a better scheme will make all the difference.

I was watching TV yesterday as well think the same ish!! WTF has happened the last 2 days??? Anyone who would buy into this kinda bs works for BSPN I do believe. They love stirring up drama and I’m sure certain anchors are trying to help out their “friends”. *cough*parcells*cough** I don’t see us drafting Kuelchy at #5 but the kid makes plays. The only thing he struggles with is he gets 0 pressure on the QB. Occassionally he will have to blitz and his tape says he can’t. But he is great finding the RB or dropping back into coverage and making the tackle. He averaged closer to 200 tackles a season for his 3 years career. Dude can play.
But how do you get paid to say “I haven’t watched much of his tape, but this is how I feel”??????? His tape shows you everything you need to know about a player…Joe don’t even give these guys publicity for them writing/speaking garbage like that!!
April 25th, 2012 at 1:42 pm
Our guys were used to having Ruud call out the plays and getting people lined up properly. All he did was miss some big tackles but still made the majority of them. He was good in our scheme before the last couple of seasons. Then whatever RA was trying ruined the whole team. We would’ve been terrible with or without him last season. RA lost the team and they quit. Plan and simple!
April 25th, 2012 at 2:47 pm
@pewterC you’re 100% correct TR is the pick!
April 25th, 2012 at 2:58 pm
@Joe:
We sucked with or without Ruud…exactly. Foster was an upgrade in the inside run game but a downgrade in coverage. I’ll concede that you were right (and I was wrong) about Quincy Black who regressed big time last year, but Ruud was a major reason why were awful against the run for years. We can only improve as Foster gets experience to improve his instinctd and technique. Drafting Kuechly will go a long way to helping Foster because Foster isn’t a sideline to sideline backer. I’ll trade Ruud’s ability to make tackles 10 yards down the field for a true thumper ILB that can stop RBs in their tracks anyway. Just watch Foster’s hit/stop on Chris Ivory and tell me if Ruud is capable of that.
April 25th, 2012 at 6:03 pm
Has anyone looked at Kuechly’s Tape? He does not seem like that dominant linebacker that people say. He does remind me of Ruud. I hope we dont draft him with the 5th pick!!!
