McCoy’s Effort And Technique Questioned

April 10th, 2012

As an analyst on the NFL Network’s popular Playbook show, former 12-year offensive lineman Brian Baldinger has access to every inch and angle of NFL game film. And he doesn’t like what he sees from Gerald McCoy.

This morning on The Ron and Ian Show on WDAE-AM 620, co-host Ian Beckles asked Baldinger how many Bucs games he watched in 2011 and what he thought of the Bucs’ defense. Baldinger replied that he watched every Bucs game and he singled out three players: Adrian Clayborn, DaQuan Bowers and Gerald McCoy.

Clayborn was showered with love by Baldinger as the only defensive standout. But Baldinger said he didn’t think Bowers “knew how to play” and he questioned McCoy’s “consistent effort” and blasted his technique, saying he “plays high” and needs to get his pad level down.

Loyal listeners of Beckles know Baldinger found a welcoming audience with those criticisms of McCoy.

Joe wouldn’t give McCoy poor on-field grades for 2011. However, a player always gets an F when he’s not on the field, and McCoy has find a way to stay healthy. In terms of the Bucs’ Super Bowl aspirations, McCoy is worthless if he can only play half a season every year.

  1. SteveK Says:

    Paid more then Troy Pollamalu,

Time to be atleast present for all 16 games.

  2. SteveK Says:

McCoy only plays half a season, then he should get half his $

  3. raphael Says:

    cue the 2.2 Mccoy hater…

  4. Architek Says:

    Joe,
It’s one thing to question us as fans about this player but Brian Baldinger is a well-respected NFL analyst. He echoes the general NFL populous opinion of McCoy and it seems like you avoid certain aspects of the topic. For example, McCoy is very talented but for two straight years I have heard scouts and analysts talk about McCoy’s pad-level. If he is to ever play at another level he must clean up the details. Why would he blame the coaching and then turn around only to get hurt. Basically, it’s time for the excuses to cease and the production/explosion to increase.

Personally, he is never going to live to his draft status in Tampa because he is in the shadow of a HOF’er who kicked a$$ and took names. McCoy will be solid at best but it always come down to the salary and he has been handsomely paid already for doing nothing. Why would he do more?

  5. Thomas2.2 Says:

    LOL!

    Sound familiar.

No mention of this ridiculous “disruptive” concept. LMAO.

The only thing McCoy is disruptive about is the success, or lack thereof, of our defense by having “poor” technique, effort and consistency.

Wake up sheep! Just because you are highly drafted and anointed doesn’t mean you are any good.

  6. Sam Says:

McCoy sucks plain and simple. This guy is a total goofball and should consider being an NFL analyst not a DT. McCoy lacks effort and does not play at a very high level. The Bucs don’t need another comedian on the team we need what we paid for a true star DT. Get rid of this idiot and consider him a BUST cause that’s exactly what he is…

  7. BILL Says:

I DO BELIEVE COACHING HAD A LOT TO DO WITH THE CRAPPY PLAY

  8. raphael Says:

lmao …so when a positive post about Mccoy is made, no sign of 2.2 and when a negative post is made , he opens his mouth….Mccoy is extremely talented there is no denying it,but can he stay healthy?its a make or break year.

  9. Bulldog Says:

Strange that when he is in the game the Bucs D does well. Yet when he is out they drop off more than just a little. Evidently his poor pad level and technique must baffle the competition.

  10. Jarret Says:

The same non-football related picture of mccoy lookin like a d-bag

  11. SteveK Says:

Strange that McCoy can’t stay healthy?

Wonder if his pad level is too high?

Too much arm tackling (bicep patrol)?

Too much tweeting, and not enough time divulged with practicing/weight lifting/playbook reading?

We need him to step up for us… yesterday.

  12. SteveK Says:

McCoy is the WEAKEST LINK from the 2010 NFL Draft’s 1st round.

    And this includes Tebow.

Other then Russell Okung, McCoy is by far the least productive pick in his draft.

I hope he can get back to work and become the player we so desperately drafted.

  13. bucfanjeff Says:

McCoy does play a little high at times, but he’s a good player. Health is his only concern.

  14. Eric Says:

I thought Tanard was (used) to be the one who played high.

  15. Eric Says:

    Super Bowl aspirations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps we take smaller steps, like breaking the ten game losing streak.

  16. Joe Says:

The same non-football related picture of mccoy lookin like a d-bag

    Hey Jarret:

Don’t like the picture? Twitter GMC and complain. He’s the one who released it!

  17. thomas 2.2 Says:

@ Bulldog who Says: “Strange that when he is in the game the Bucs D does well. Yet when he is out they drop off more than just a little. Evidently his poor pad level and technique must baffle the competition.”

Question: What is the bucs record against the Saints since McCoy has been drafted? It is 2-0 when Mccoy is out, and 0-2 when he plays.

  18. BigBear Says:

@thomas 2.2 Look at the overall record. We don’t play the Saints 16 times a year.

  19. OAR Says:

    Joe
Come on, thats not the only picture of McCoy out there.

  20. OAR Says:

    BigBear and Bulldog
Thomass only uses particular stats and partial facts that back his negative Nancy statements!

  21. ClayBURN94 Says:

    LMAO @Eric

  22. lightningbuc Says:

@Eric Or even smaller steps, like not being down 42 in the 2nd quarter!

  23. kh Says:

The defense obviously fell off when he was out injured last year, anyone who denies that is clueless. Joe even blogged about that the other day.

T 2.2 your criticisms of him are irrelevant cause you’re so completely unhinged about him. You sound ridiculous, it’s almost as though he slapped your mom or something.

  24. jvato24 Says:

I wish people would just shut the Hell up about players tweeting … Sound like my Fing Grandparents ,,,

Adrian Clayborn … TWeeets all day
    Bowers … Tweets quite abit
Mason Foster … Tweets all day

    GET OVER IT !!!!!!!!!!

I think Twitter is an incredibly dumb idea for an athlete … But it doesnt change that it aint goin nowhere

  25. Joe Says:

Come on, thats not the only picture of McCoy out there.

Sorry, Joe likes the picture and can promise, it will be used again in the future.

    GMC himself Twittered that out.

  26. Bobby Says:

I’m not worried about McCoy. He will make all the doubters shut up after the season starts. I’ll continue to say you have to be blind or stupid to not see the difference McCoy made when he was in the game.

  27. jvato24 Says:

Ok Haters … Here is the Top 16 from that draft class

1 1 St. Louis Rams Bradford, Sam
1 2 Detroit Lions Suh, Ndamukong
1 3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers McCoy, Gerald
1 4 Washington Redskins Williams, Trent
1 5 Kansas City Chiefs Berry, Eric
1 6 Seattle Seahawks Okung, Russell
1 7 Cleveland Browns Haden, Joe
1 8 Oakland Raiders McClain, Rolando
    1 9 Buffalo Bills Spiller, C. J.
1 10 Jacksonville Jaguars Alualu, Tyson
    1 11 San Francisco 49ers Davis, Anthony
1 12 San Diego Chargers Mathews, Ryan
1 13 Philadelphia Eagles Graham, Brandon
1 14 Seattle Seahawks Thomas, Earl
    1 15 New York Giants Pierre-Paul, JasonJ
1 16 Tennessee Titans Morgan, Derrick

Besides Pierre Paul who had about 6 college Sacks and Suh who was off the board … The majority of these picks have not been very successful. Who should we have reached for besides JPP who was a bigtime Boom or Bust prospect???

  28. kh Says:

c’mon jvato24, using logic like that will get you nowhere around here.

The Bucs are only supposed to be drafting HOFers, all-pros or at the very least Pro-Bowlers, duh!

  29. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

Raheem should have been fired for winning that game against GB, then we would have had the 2nd pick in the draft and selected Suh. correct me if im wrong, but didnt we win 3 games that year? i think Detriot won 2 or 3. either way we should have found a way to trade with the Rams that year but then we wouldnt have landed some of the guys we have now. Damn domino effect. still wish we had Suh!!! BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!

  30. bucbelevr Says:

First….THANK GOD for the new CBA rookie contracts. As someone mentioned above, and I concur 100%, that with his EFFING 35 million GUARANTEED in his 63 million contract, he won’t ever really try to do much terribly better, as the glass-filled ridiculous wet-rag piece of …..he has proved to be.

Second, this is proof (no matter your opinions of him personally) that you just CAN’T TEACH the mean streak, killer instincts that DT’s need to constantly exist, no better proven than Ndamukong Suh. He’s not an angel, DT’s aren’t supposed to be, and we had a great work ethic and killer instinct (not taught) in Warren Sapp.

In all, Suh is exactly what a DT is supposed to be, and to think one measely draft spot up in 2010, as that discussion did take place if you all recall, could have freed us from McCoy, and landed Suh?!!

  31. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

    @JVATO24
i would have gone with McClain, maybe trade down and grab other picks. who cares whats done is done and we have GMC. given time he could pan out but you can win if your not on the feild. stay healthy and prove me wrong.

  32. Capt. Tim Says:

Here- this is an easy one.
What’s the Bucs record when McCoy played ?
What’s the Bucs record when McCoy didn’t play?

    Lmao.

  33. kh Says:

@bucbelivr good grief, another of member of the unhinged…

If you recall, Detroit was pretty high on Suh, as was everyone lese under the sun. Trading up to get Suh was never a realistic option so spare the revisionist history.

There is proof that McCoy is a key member of our defense, just look at the record when he plays and when he doesn’t.

Honestly, I’d love for you to line up against him and tell him he doesn’t have a mean streak. That would work out well for you.

  34. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

    @ Capt. Tim

i just read that the other day and cant remember where i saw it. if you know the records would you post it? i think we won way more with him than w/o him. Buc It Im Out!!!!!!!!!

  35. bucbelevr Says:

Beautiful thing about opinions, is that “everyone” can have them.

    Even @Kh…

  36. Pete Dutcher Says:

The problem I have with this is Thomas is now going to quote it as factual data…when it’s really only opinion.

  37. Stevek Says:

We were all spoiled by watching the best DT of his time.

McCoy will never be Sapp, but he could still be damn good with better coaching.

I got a feeling we are going to take TR @ #5, or trade back for Tannehil’s rights.

  38. jvato24 Says:

    St Louis Bucs Fan …

McClain is even crazier shootin shells than Talib !! Plus his boys are in Bama … Talibs are in Texas … Higher possibility of shells flyin’ just because of logistics …

Watch what happens if Talib goes to the Cowboys !!

  39. Pete Dutcher Says:

    bucbelevr Says:
    April 10th, 2012 at 2:45 pm

    …Second, this is proof…

Um…actually it is nowhere close to “proof”. Was Sapp accusing Shockey “proof?”

  40. Stevek Says:

    Right Pete,

But it is a “credible” source’s opinion.

We can all agree McCoy has immense burst and quick reflex talent, but he needs to harden up and get better form.

Big12 is a scary conference to draft from. Jutin Blackmon seems like the real deal, but so did Crabtree.

  41. mcbuc Says:

We would have seen the same results if we drafted JPP or Suh, the coaching let us and the players down. Why do all of you keep giving some players a pass due to coaching but not others. Let’s see what the new guys do, and give everyone a clean slate.

  42. kh Says:

@bucbelevr your opinion that the Bucs could have landed Suh is flat out wrong. That was never going to happen in a million years with how highly Suh was rated. One “measly” spot made all the difference – the Lions are not in the business of letting the Bucs draft the better player.

The objective stat was our record with and without him (8-3 vs. 3-8 iirc) – the rest is just you looking unhinged over the fact that McCoy isn’t the next Warren Sapp.

  43. OAR Says:

Yes, and if palm trees and sand were beer and wings, we’d be set forever in paradise!

  44. bucbelevr Says:

    @Pete Dutcher…..

Huh? I was talking about Suh, and who he naturally is, as DT, and who GMC is naturally not, smiles all the time, thanking everyone, etc…injured in the weight room (or wherever) all the time.!..Go get a 15 yard penalty, quit smiling all the time, get a DT reputation………it’s ALL common knowledge everyone, not me.

  45. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

    @jvato24

but prior to that draft was there any information about him “shootin shells” as you put it? i don’t think there was. my reasoning for McClain was that with Brooks gone he could have helped a lot. we had more hole then than we do now, either way there’s no pleasing millions of fans with 1 pick, (unless your a Colt fan this year & even then someone will say they grabbed the wrong QB). i would have loved Suh but we have GMC and when healthy is productive. the future is bright for the Bucs so lets enjoy the present and not dwell on the past.
    BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!!!!

  46. deminion Says:

he is gunna b great this r im banking on it(if healthy)

  47. Pete Dutcher Says:

    Stevek Says:
    April 10th, 2012 at 3:07 pm

    Right Pete,

But it is a “credible” source’s opinion.

No more than any other. And he stated it as an opinion, not as factual data supported by evidence.

bucbelevr, you may exagerate and make false claims as much as Thomas does…but it won’t make it true.

Yes, GMC has been injured. Out for the season twice. But both times were opposite injuries and freak occurrences. There are claims those injuries usually don’t happen to the same area twice…so it is unlikely GMC will have the same issues again.

And there is absolutely zero evidence that McCoy has not given “consistent effort” and shown a hard work ethic. Sometimes, bad things happen…and McCoy has worked hard to overcome his injuries. He never takes plays off when he’s on the field either.

“Consistent effort” is what McCoy is all about. The only thing worthy debating is whether he can stay healthy…and only time will prove that.

  48. bucbelevr Says:

    🙂

Good thing Dutcher…….we have you to keep us on the “true” path.

  49. bucfanjeff Says:

I can’t believe some of you still wish we had Suh – whether he was available to us or not. Other than his rookie year, what has he done? No better or worse than McCoy other than stay healthy. Let’s not even get started on his playing ethics…and please don’t justify them. When players don’t like you, you have a problem.

  50. thomas 2.2 Says:

What is the team’s record without Cody Grimm? About the same as McCoy?

So did the defense fall off because of Cody Grimm’s absence? I say yes.

Ask anyone how Cody Grimm was playing? They will all say very well.

Ask the same people how Mccoy has played? You will get most objectve people telling you “not very well,” and a few sheep you argue “disruption.”

Grimm had more to do with the run defense falling a part than Gerald did.

  51. jvato24 Says:

    BucFanJeff
Im still bitter the Bucs didnt draft Ronnie Lott .. lol

  52. jvato24 Says:

Thomas is right about one thing … And that is Cody Grimm .. I have the games recorded in the 30 minute short cuts … Cody Grimm was just a monster in 2010 .. Like a Heat seeking Missle taking out the runners …

Although I do believe GMC helped our Defense tremendously when healthy

  53. Eric Says:

We won four games when i watched from my recliner, but lost twelve when I watched sitting on my couch.

My recliner had as much to do with the victories as Gerald McCoy.

When a guy is a great player (Uhrlacker, Polamalu, Pierre etc) nobody has to pretend, everyone knows it!

  54. BigBear Says:

The loss of both of those guys was key to the struggles of our d last year. They both seemed to be leaders in their units if not the entire d. McCoy does play a little high in the pad, but part of that is because he is somewhat tall for a tackle at 6’4″. If those biceps hold up he has the chance to be a pretty good player this year.

The best thing of this whole discussion is the draft class- No one that was available to us was worth more than McCoy was at that position. I can’t say that trading down would have really been a better option. GMC still has a lot of football left in him. No matter what his faults we have him and the best thing is for Bryan Cox to give him some crazy pills that hes been taking for years and hope for the best!

  55. bucbelevr Says:

    🙂

    Here’s to….crazy pills and recliners!! Woohoo 🙂

  56. OAR Says:

Somebody is pretending McCoy is great?
One thing in common with the games we lost last year and that was a crappy head coach and coaching staff!
Let’s give some of these players a chance with some REAL coaching!

  57. admin Says:

We won four games when i watched from my recliner, but lost twelve when I watched sitting on my couch.

My recliner had as much to do with the victories as Gerald McCoy.

    LOLOLOLOL!

  58. Capt. Tim Says:

Eric- get yer ass back on the recliner, and burn that damn couch!!

Soooo- now we know. We’ve blamed Raheem. We’ve blamed Dominick.
We’ve blamed McCoy, Talib, Freeman, Blount, and Black

When all along- IT WAS YOU!! You, and yet damn cursed Couch!!!

If you’d have stayed in the recliner- we win the SuperBowl!!!

    But NOOOO!!!
Ya had ta sit on the Couch- didn’t ya! Just to crush the hopes and dreams of the poor, long suffering Buc Fans!

I shoulda suspected you all along- you and that couch!!

I’m gonna go try to rally a mob of peasants, to storm yer house, and drag that couch out into the Streets!!!

  59. Capt. Tim Says:

Steve White is an expert opinion. He played here. Watches every game

I’ll take his opinion of McCoy, over this guy.

  60. Bobby Says:

Funny how Cody Grimm has been injured the same as McCoy but he gets a pass from Thomas but not McCoy…..that’s pretty telling isn’t it? Just shows how blind some people can be to talent when they have a bias. Nobody is calling McCoy great but you have to give credit where credit is due and when he played he made the defense a whole lot better. So did Cody Grimm. I said as soon as Grimm went down that we would miss him big time while others said that Lynch would be better. I think I was right there. I’ll be right about McCoy too. He will be a beast this year. His work ethic is tremendous. Where has he been all off season?….training, training training. He’s been putting in 9 hr days 5 days a week. I wouldn’t call that lazy but I suppose Thomas would. We’ll see who is the better judge of talent. I’ll be saying a lot of “I told you so’s” next year and I don’t want to hear any excuses out of the haters. Just admit you were wrong and move on.

  61. kh Says:

Thomas if a safety is making tackles in the run game that’s a bad thing, not a good thing. The front seven should be taking care of that not Grimm.

Again, you obviously hate McCoy so you’re not objective in the slightest bit, which renders your opinions on McCoy irrelevant.

  62. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

These are the exact questions scouts had when he came out of college and the same reasons why I have never wanted him. The guy enjoys the fat contract and playing half a season. And its funny, the past two seasons he has done terrible up until right before he gets hurt. Those 1 or 2 games before he gets hurt he shows “potential talent”. But the other 6 or so odd games is nothing from him!!!

Trade him for a 3rd rounder and be done with him!! God knows he won’t get anything better and maybe not even a 3rd for the guy!!

  63. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

    Bobby,

Nice way to throw that race card out.

Perhaps the reason people (not me, so much) are treating them differently are their paychecks.

Have you looked at how much one guy has collected vs. the other?

I don’t have the contracts #’s handy, but, I’m sure someone else does. But, yes, your pre-slotting system, 1st round draft pick is going to be judged differently (fairly or not) then the guy from the 7th round who is making peanuts.

  64. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

We could’ve had a stud CB in Joe Haden or Safety in Eric Berry. But we took McSucks instead!!! How has that worked out??? Lets just hope they get it right this year and get either Claiborne, Kalil, or trade down!!! Thats it IMO.

  65. Pete Dutcher Says:

    FYI EVERYONE

I just finished making Bucs desktop backgrounds for my computer (including a shout out to JBF). Click on my name link to download either 1280×768 or 1024×768.

  66. Pete Dutcher Says:

btw, apologies for the condition of my website…just switched hosts and am putting together a new one.

  67. Bobby Says:

@ALSTOTTSMART! …..Throw the race card out??? Where do you get that from in my post unless you ARE a racist? All I said was that both players got injured for two years straight but Thomas talks about how one guy was missed and one guy wasn’t and should be considered a bust. That was just an ignorant post on your part suggesting I was throwing the race card out. Were you one of the same guys saying that no one should mention Bellicheat wearing a ‘hoodie’ because of what’s going on in Sanford?? Don’t use that reverse racist #@!% on me punk. You have issues…deal with them but don’t try to pull the race card and then make it look like it was me who did it.

  68. Capt. Tim Says:

McCoy is our most disruptive player.
Some of you are really dumb!
    Lol

  69. tyler wilson Says:

you r all idiots every single one of you who say he is a bust i mean he is so terrible tht r defense literally dropped from top 15 to the worst defense in the nfl AFTER he was hurt you say he is injury prone n thts what makes him bad what about troy palumalu he is hurt consistntly but yet you dont hear steeler fans constintly pestering him about it GMC is actually a very good defensive tackle if you actually watched tape of him n all u idiots ddnt just read the sack label on the stat sheet u would realize this im sick of listening to ppl constintly complaining about him pls remember tht he is entering his third year n if i dnt recall but mister QBkilla ddnt get good till his third year so please for everyone just shut the hell up n let him play football same goes for LGB

  70. sharkcoasttactical.com Says:

I’m sure hes a nice guy, but after following him on Twitter and getting to know him over the last couple of years, I feel we made a mistake. Eric Berry was the better pick but we tried to compensate for Suh Envy. I bet Raheem said mortgage the future and get Suh or get Berry. I cant see Rah thinking McCoy was the right pick. Rah was a bad head coach/coordinator(at the same time) but even he knew that he needed a killer at DT and GMC is not that guy. Ultimately, It doesn’t mean shiz now.

  71. Pete Dutcher Says:

I said it when McCoy was drafted. Suh will be the better player the first few years, but long term McCoy will prove out to be the better player. I still believe that.

  72. bucfat Says:

I have no faith in our defense. What makes people think we will do any better this upcoming year? McCoy/Price/Grimm/Talib/Bowers stay healthy? Doubt it.

  73. ALSOTTSMART Says:

    @Bobby

Maybe you didn’t mean it that way. I don’t want to label someone that. For that, sorry

However, when you throw out bias. And “pretty telling isn’t it”, I guess I’m thinking, no..it is not very telling at all. One guy has a $63,420,000.00 contract and picked up a cool $23 mil just for signing. He has made over $43 million for the first two seasons. At 19 games played, that’s over $2 million a game.

The other guy has cost Tampa just under a million. Total. Roughly $142k a game.

So no, it’s really not surprising that people (and it’s not just Thomas) are judging one guy differently than the other. That’s reality in the NFL. If you make that kind of paycheck, and don’t produce, regardless of reason, that heat is on. Nothing new.

So, I’m left wondering. What bias? What, pray tell, IS so telling?

  74. BigMacAttack Says:

I hope McCoy can bounce back. I would have drafted Eric Berry most likely, but at the last minute may have switched the pick to Rolando McClain.

I’m not a Falcons’ fan but it was nice to see that jerk, Bobby Petrino get his head handed to him today. It is a good day for Arthur Blank.

  75. Rickster Says:

All questions about mccoy WILL be answered next season for sure.
    Boom or bust?

  76. Nate Says:

    Mccoy is overated

  77. Lion Says:

I believe McCoy will have a breakout year, we finally have a real coaching staff and a real defensive scheme.

  78. Miguel Grande Says:

I’m not an expert on GMC but I believe the glaring weakness was his lack of strength coming out of college as measured by bench press reps. Was it a poor program at OU that couldn’t afford a strength coach or a comprehensive weight room? Was it a lack of willing participation in the weight room?

Move ahead three years, is Gerald McCoy stronger than the previous years? Has he been in the weight room seven days a week? I’m sure he has lots of excuses, but has he done the work?

Did you know that you can work out the opposite arm from the injured arm and still receive 90% of the benefit? The body naturally balances itself out.

  79. princespanky Says:

Just like Miguel I am not an expert on GMC but I do know that bench means nothing at the combine; it’s a complete waste. Scouts even tell guys that in advance. On the other side he has put in time in the gym regardless of his bench. He cut his percent body fat in half when he was rehabbing the first torn bicep… I thought he looked more explosive up until his season got cut short last year. Most often it takes a DT a while to develop just to get used to the speed of the pro game and the bigger men. If he doesn’t have a big season this year then I think we can start to label him bust but so far he doesn’t deserve it….. yet…

  80. Joe Says:

    Miquel:

To quote Warren Sapp, who himself did lousy with the bench press at his combine, “You don’t pump weights on the 50-yard line.”

  81. Capt. Tim Says:

    Hmmm, let’s see
14th ranked defense when McCoy plays
29 th ranked when he doesn’t
Win 78% of games he starts
    Win 29% when he doesn’t.

Still the Zombies rally and and march!
Led by “truth twister Thomas! Who is our leading Reciever the last 3 years, Thomas? Who?
Still, Thomas is a better poster and Buc Fan than tha Hawiian whiner!

You Zombies better hope you don’t march on a beach soon. You’ll be over yer head in two senses of the word!

Every real expert says the sane thing.
Our defense is hinged on McCoy.
He’s gotta stay healthy. Other than that- he’s a beast

    March, Tommy’s Zombies!
    Lmao
Bet yer all wearing ” Draft Moooo Richardson” shirts!

    Lmao again!

  82. Capt. Tim Says:

Hate McCoy, hate Winslow. Hate Blount. Hate Penn

Love Talib. Love Tanard. Love ” too slow Trent” Richardson.
Think Quincy black can still play.

Lmao at the Zombies! We’d be 0-48 if anyone listened to you poorly equipped boneheads!!

You, you guys don’t actually have drivers licenses, do ya?
    That’s a chilling thought!! Brrrrr

  83. Bobby Says:

@ALSTOTTSMART!….Who cares what they get paid? What are you, a member of ‘occupy wall street’ or something? I’m talking about how they performed when they were healthy and that’s all that matters. Both performed well when they were healthy and both got injured. Thomas gives Grimm credit for playing well when healthy but does not give McCoy credit for playing well when healthy. THAT’S what’s telling….bonehead. Doesn’t get much simpler.

  84. SteveK Says:

    Bobby,

    Erroneous on all accounts!

McCoy’s lack of being “Healthy and Productive” is far more impactful on the Bucs, then say a 7th rounder in Grimm

When 1 player consumes 10%+ of the Salary cap, they are more vested in the success of the team, or more responsible with the lack of success.

My point is the #3 overall pick needs to start “Earning” his paychecks.

Grimm and McCoy missing time from injury is bad any way you cut it, but to not recognize the monetary restrictions McCoy has put on this franchise is pure ignorance and irresponsible.

McCoy’s salary represents a greater % of salary cap when compared to Grimm, thus making McCoy a greater impact on our team.

Common Sense says, “McCoy is a lower production, higher maintence”.

Cut bait this year if he can’t stay healthy!

  85. Capt. Tim Says:

SteveK- you at truly the most clueless poster here

  86. SteveK Says:

    BOBBY:

    NFL SALARY CAP:

    $120.6 million…

    2012 McCoy’s # against the cap: $11,147,000.00

    2012 Cody Grimm’s # against the cap: $507,000.00

So, Grimm’s 2012 pay day is : roughly .4% of our cap.

McCoy’s 2012 pay day is: 9.2% of our cap this year.

So, almost 10% of our team’s cap is committed to just 1 player, yikes!

  87. SteveK Says:

    Capt. Tim,

You need to take the blinders off and view what is all around you, buddy.

You are just upset that Trent Richardson may be the BPA when it is our turn to pick.

Continue to justify RAh’s 10 win accidient, “clueless” is as “clueless” does.

  88. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

    @Bobby

SteveK summed it up quite well. But:

So money, and a player’s portion of salary in relation to the salary cap mean nothing?

Sure. You go right on thinking that. Payroll has NO role in how player’s are evaluated….

LOL. This place is ALWAYS good for a laugh.

  89. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

And what on God’s green earth has Occupy Wall Street have to do with ANYTHING??

Are you really grasping at straws that much? We’re talking salary cap figures in a salary capped league. A player’s salary in relation to performance DOES matter. And GREATLY.

Occupy Wall Street…….BWWHHHHAHAHAHHHA. You sure are HIGHlarious!!!

  90. Bobby Says:

@ALSTOTTDUMB!….when it comes to evaluating the impact a player had on the defense’s performance before and after injury I don’t see how salary has any business in the equation. Now if we were discussing ‘value’ overall (which we weren’t) then it would be different. We were simply evaluating the impact a player had on the defense, regardless of what they were paid. If you can’t evaluate performance outside of salary issues then STFU and let others who can discuss it do just that.

  91. Bobby Says:

    @SteveK….read the above post.

  92. SteveK Says:

    Bobby,

Ignorant as the day is long…..

Grimm and McCoy both can HELP the Bucs and need to be healthy.

Look at the big picture, each NFL team has $120.6 million salary cap.

McCoy is almost 10% of Tampa’s salary cap this year.

So, if McCoy gets injured again this year, then that is 10% of the team’s budget being flushed down the toilet again.

Bottom line, McCoy is being paid like a star, so time to play like a star.

  93. Bobby Says:

SteveK….are you just that dense or what???? No one is arguing that McCoy needs to stay healthy. No one is arguing that McCoy makes more money than
Grimm. OK. We’ve established that. Now lets just get back to my original comment. Thomas commented that Grimm played very well before he was injured. I don’t argue that. Notice there is no mention of money?????? At the same time Thomas refused to admit that McCoy played well when healthy. Again…. no mention of money or comparing them related to what they are paid. Just a comparison that would ask Thomas to say both played well when healthy. Now….WHO is ignorant???? If you can’t grasp a simple concept like I just outlined without saying “Yeah, but McCoy makes a lot of money” when that has absolutley nothing to do with whether he played well when healthy, I don’t know what to tell you other than carry on a conversation with someone else cause I’m done schooling you.

  94. SteveK Says:

    Bobby,

I see your point, and raise you:

What are the “acceptable” expectations for an $11 million player per year, top 5 pick, and one of the highest paid at his position?

What are “acceptable” expectations for a 7nth round pick?

McCoy does have one measurable, and that is 9% of our total budget this year.

53 guys make a roster, and say that the Bucs used the entire $120.6 million:

So $120,600.00 divided 53 ways would equal out to: $2,275,471.70.

McCoy himself costs $11 million +, which is 1/10 total team resources for 2012.

What’s that mean? McCoy has a greater expectations due to his lofty draft status and pay check.

McCoy and Grimm have similar outputs, but one is a money pit.

  95. Bobby Says:

‘sigh’…just can’t let go of the money thing can you….

Well, at least your not saying “Draft Richardson!!!!” with every post now so I guess we’re making progress…..

  96. SteveK Says:

    Bobby,

Trent should be your pick too!

He can show your boy, McCoy, what the weightroom looks like…

  97. Capt. Tim Says:

SteveK is so totally drifted from reality, I think he post during Rec time at the institute
The stats are mosteriously undeniable in McCoys favor.
Hard numbers- we win roughly 70% of games he starts, and lose roughly 70% of games he doesn’t play
    That’s an unbelievable impact
Out defense is in top 15 with him, bottom 5 without him
    Again- unbelievable

Yet this guy thinks his ” opinion”( even though he must know he’s damaged) is more factual.
And he quotes some random has been been questioning “effort” as some kinda fact.
You wanna show me your friggin “Effort” meter?

McCoy dominates the line when he plays.
    The FACTS prove that.
The rest of the nonsensical opinions just prove that some of you know nothing about football

  98. Stevek Says:

    Tim, it’s a fact.
McCoy is costing the Bucs 10% of their entire operating budget for 53 total players.

That is a lot riding on one guy, not to mention the expectations from a loft draft status.

McCoy needs to figure out how to stay on the field.

You can’t be “good” if you’re hurt.
