“King Of Hustle” Is Cut; Bucs Sign A Right Tackle
March 22nd, 2012The man Raheem Morris once dubbed “The King of Hustle,” DE Tim Crowder, is now a former Buccaneer. The Bucs announced his release today.
A former Jim Bates guy in Denver, Crowder was picked up by the Bucs in 2009. Joe was a fan of Crowder. He was a high-motor guy who was strong on special teams and was a lot better than sackless Kyle Moore, who was wrongly gifted a starting gig ahead of him in 2010. Crowder didn’t do much last season before going on injured reserve.
The Bucs also signed a right tackle, journeyman free agent Jamon Meredith, who has one career start in five seasons with Buffalo, the Giants, Detroit and, most recently Pittsburgh. This all but ensures James Lee will not return for his fifth season with the Bucs.
On face value, Joe likes the signing. An offensive lineman from the Steelers means the dude knows how to run block. Upon further review however, generally the Steelers don’t let guys walk away who they deem valuable unless their contract demands are insane (for example, word is Mike Wallace wants more cash than Larry Fitzgerald to stay in Pittsburgh).
The Packers have the same mentality with not letting guys walk away they still value (see: Lumpkin, Kregg).

“Joe was a fan of Crowder. He was a high-motor guy who was strong on special teams and was a lot better than sackless Kyle Moore.”
Calling Kyle Moore “sackless” is a little childish Joe.
(I get what you meant)

Joe here,
If Kyle Moore had found a way to record a sack during the regular season, Joe wouldn’t call him sackless.

JBF – Calling out men with no sacks since 2008!

I know, I was playing around I found it a very humorous double entendre.

I was hoping it wasnt an anatomical reference.

Kyle Moore, 4th round pick

I liked Tim Crowder too. Why didnt they want to keep him around?

You KNOW Greg isn’t getting rid of George Johnson odd man out I guess.

AlstottSmart hit it, IMO. Dom doesn’t like impression of cutting his draft picks so soon. That Tollefson guy from Giants visiting here, after Seahawks…might be good addition, refresh.

My guess is the injury is not coming along like they thought because I assumed he was 4th at DE behind Clayborne, Bowers, & Bennett.
I like the guy but it is not a big loss or anything because he never did anything.
I guess they have there eye on 1 or 2 to pick up during cuts or the late rounds.

Not sure you have watched the Steelers Offensive line over the past few years.
I’m pretty sure none of them know how to “Run Block”

For a coach making examples of players not hustling from one side of the field to the other, I sure as Hell know they werent talking about Tim Crowder.
I dont get this, So now our 4th DE is a guy coming off a torn ACL ???
I would think atleast keep him for camp.

I liked Tim. I hope he gets picked up. Jah bless his family during these hard times.
March 22nd, 2012 at 12:20 pm
1 career start and he’s been on how many teams??
March 22nd, 2012 at 12:29 pm
They did Tim a favor by cutting him. It gives him a chance to go out and find a new team.
THe fact is, Crowder isn’t making a ton, but what he is making is very significant because the 3 guys that are ahead of him, Clayborn Bennett, and Bowers, all make substantial amounts and teams can’t afford to pay their 4th DE as much as Crowder was getting. Generally speaking, 4th DEs usually make little more than the rookie or veteran minimums.

YEAAAAAH…
He’s so good he’s been on 5 teams in 5 seasons. This guy is NOT a good signing, Joe…don’t tell me you’ve joined the “any signing is a good signing” crowd.

See now…this sort of attitude, no offense, is why it took so many years to even start rebuilding. People want the team to get better…but they don’t want the players to go.
That’s wishing the players will get better…not the team.

Pete:
Perhaps you need to re-read the post?
March 22nd, 2012 at 12:53 pm
Pete- um, what we say here has absolutely no affect on the team. No matter what we think.
Yeah, I liked Crowder, too!
Good luck to him
What’s a “Jah”?

Pete: I don’t mind it, just didnt find a good reason in Joe’s post. There are many decent reason though, most are point to the cost of him as #4 DE.
But look at it this way: with this move they are saying the rookie or fa will be better then him. I’m not so sure about that when i look back at his time here which i thought was pretty decent.

Capt. Tim, Jah is the jewish name for Jehovah, God of the Israelites in the Old Testament.

Uh, I’ve seen enough.
March 22nd, 2012 at 2:58 pm
Does anyone think we should sign a RB FA seeing as the Browns might possibly take Richardson. Plus I think it’s smarter to take Claiborne yes Barber return but for how long and Talib isn’t out of the clear yet. Mabey take Brandon Jacobs seeing as our Offensive Cord. has spent time with him in New York.

Macabee- thanks! You learn something new everyday!

“An offensive lineman from the Steelers means the dude knows how to run block.”
Obviously, you seem to be forgetting that Sean Mahan was once the starting center for the Steelers.
