Dick Vitale “Crushed” By Chip Kelly’s Decision
January 23rd, 2012Basketball Hall of Famer, Bucs season ticket holder and hardcore sportsaholic Dick Vitale has a keen interest in who Team Glazer and Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik select to replace jettisoned Bucs coach Raheem Morris.
So for the second time since the Bucs’ hierarchy launched their search for a new Bucs coach, Vitale, the pride of Sarasota, has taken to Twitter to express his outraged.
This time, like many Bucs fans, Vitale is deflated over Oregon coach Chip Kelly turning down the Bucs offer to coach the Bucs.
@DickieV: I am crushed what happened to the Kelly deal with the Bucs? Don’t want a re-thread! HELP US
Joe will somewhat echo Vitale’s sentiments in that Team Glazer should forget about a retread coach so long as his name is not Schottenheimer, who has a documented track record for turning around teams.
Get Tom Clements down here (or Dallas), pronto, for a second interview. Get it done!

Great picture Joe,
It was sad news indeed to hear about Chip not coming aboard.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Keep it up Glazers and find us our man.
Any idea why Chip backed out?

If it’s GOT to be an offensive guy then Marty has to be the choice. I would imagine that his staff is going to be better than Clement’s staff because of the sheer depth of Marty’s coaching tree and the possibility of being his successor in a few years.
I don’t think Clements or Zimmer would be bad choices either.

Wanted to stay at Oregon.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:12 pm
Joe,
It looks like the Bucs wanted to go for a offensive head coach. So why not go with Marc Trestman? Yes the Trestman from the CFL. All he’s done when in the NFL is have his teams lead the league in offense. Jake Plummer, Kosar, Scott Mitchell and Rich Grannon had their best seasons with him as a QB Coach or as a OC/QB coach. Plus he’s won as a head coach take it the CFL, but he’s still won.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:15 pm
Well… (ahem)
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:18 pm
The CFL is two steps below the NFL – winning up here is not all that hard to do. Trestman took over a winning franchise with one of the top QBs in the league.
He’s no NFL HC.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:21 pm
Marty as Head Coach period. Make it happen. It’s not optional. Please don’t give me a Mike Sherman induced heart attack.

” The CFL is two steps below the NFL – winning up here is not all that hard to do. Trestman took over a winning franchise with one of the top QBs in the league.

And Chip Kelly who has never had one foot in the NFL is?
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:26 pm
@ Matthew
Rose Bowls and Grey Cups is not NFL.
i would take my chances with an up and coming NCAA Coach over a Canadian League retread.
Just say “NO” to 3 down football.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:29 pm
trestman has a long tenure in nfl and is considered a gurú of qbs
and like clements is a lawyer.
put those two together and if we dont win we can sue.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:33 pm
B I L L I C K, Clements. Del Rio DC.
No F’ing Marty.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:34 pm
Preferably a class action lawsuit so we can all be on the take. I think us loyal Bucs fans deserve that after ahem…. certain funds went to certain other ventures for certain owners.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:35 pm
Kirk Ferentz? (Don’t know much about him, just laying it out there.)
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:40 pm
We have waited this long, might as well continue to wait for Perry Fewell (especially after he mawls Brady and CO)
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:45 pm
I heard a report from a guy in Oregon that not only was a deal made with the Bucs but the Ducks already tapped the OC to be their next head coach. Kelly called the top booster who told him this but he would check with other boosters to see if they could reverse their decision. I think it’s best we found out how wishy washy this guy was before hiring him. The Glazers are burning mad that he changed his mind.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:47 pm
what’s your obsession with tom clements? he is a 58 year old qb coach with 2 years expirence as a coordinator. aaron rodgers is a hall of fame caliber QB with or without clements.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:50 pm
dang bet that oregon oc is pissed!
if true thats low class.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:52 pm
I think the Bucs Ned to interview Vic Fangio of the 49’s. That D is unbelievable and the dude has a great resume.
January 23rd, 2012 at 5:59 pm
I don’t see the problem with a CFL coach. That league is awesome. The last grey cup was as professional” as any championship game I’ve seen. I am willing to bet the BC Lions would have trounced the Bucs this year as well as any other NFL team did. Especially if they were given that 4th down to do it.
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:01 pm
We don’t need spread offense in the NFL… who do the Glazers think we are the Broncos? Zimmer and Clements. Zimmer for HC and Clements for OC!
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:12 pm
Nice picture, Joe. I will have the exact same expression if they hire Sherman.
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:14 pm
I’m still just not on the Clements bandwagon. If you aren’t going to go retread, I’d go Zimmer. He’s the best of the coordinator bunch. Maybe Chud if you want an offensive guy.
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:18 pm
From an ex Kansas City Gal, Marty is not our answer. He is aragant, hard to play for and is a has been.
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:35 pm
Agreed timmy. He’s just a QB coach and thats all he has been basically his whole career. On another note, I take back about what I said about the Glazers going for the cheapest coach because I found out they offered Chip Kelly 6 mill while Oregon is paying him 3 Mill. I hope the bucs find our HC SOON!!
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:48 pm
super bowl is retread vs. retread.
all the hot coordinator hires are watching on tv.
yet the myth persists.
January 23rd, 2012 at 6:53 pm
Eric, good point, well played! Too bad no one will listen.
January 23rd, 2012 at 7:27 pm
so if retreads work they should interviewing the Michelin Man. He’s been laying in the back yard waiting for a call from the Brits I live in Boston and for some reason they have this saying the redcoats are comming well hurry the hell up and come oh yeah and enough with the heavy breathing
January 23rd, 2012 at 7:30 pm
ClayBurn,
I’ll believe it when I see it. Also, offering a coach 6 mill doesn’t mean the Glazers are willing to spend on the team and free agency. In summary, I don’t take back my comments about the Glazers being cheap. Thereare facts to back up my position. I’m hoping like crazy that the Glazers change their ways but I am cautiously optimistic at best.

To bucfanjeff, Ferentz will leave Iowa for one gig and one gig only. Kansas City. He loves Iowa and as someone who spent half of my life in that G*D forsaken state, I’ll tell you that he’s about as big of a celeb as there is in the land of corn de-tasseling.
Marty has to be the choice, although I’d be fairly happy with Clements too. Maybe Zim, but nobody else so far has me interested at all.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:03 pm
Lady J- He is arrogant because he wins everywhere he goes. He is hard to play for if you are lazy and a loser. Ill take the guy that knows his system works, and will not let you slack, he wants winners
January 24th, 2012 at 7:25 pm
Jarrett,Marty is also to conservative . He has no success in playoffs. Let’s get a real offense Coach.
January 25th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Does anyone not remember Ray Perkins?? College does not relate to professional. Harbaugh was a pro coach in college ranks.
