Rob Chudzinski Next In Line For Interview
January 13th, 2012Busy day over at One Buc Palace for Team Glazer and Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik.
First, it was learned that Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will interview with the Bucs braintrust as has been speculated for weeks. Now, Joe learns of word the Bucs may raid one of their NFC South opponents.
Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports that the next man in the Bucs’ hit parade will be Carolina offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski.
Chudzinski, 43, reportedly interviewed for the St. Louis Rams’ head coaching job Thursday. He also interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching job that went to Mike Mularkey.
Under Chudzinski this season, the Panthers’ offense went from 32nd to seventh behind rookie quarterback Cam Newton. The Panthers set a franchise record for total yards, scoring 47 touchdowns.
Chudzinski also helped send several players to Pro Bowl while running the Cleveland Browns’ offense.
The way Chudzinski developed Cam Newton — right now it’s tough to argue he’s not further along the road to being an All Pro than Josh Freeman — is simply amazing.
It seems as if Chudzinski is able to mold an offense to get a player’s best traits to shine. What more can one ask for in a coach?

As much as I want an aggressive offense, I’m not sure Chud is the answer. The big question is is he a one year wonder? Yes, he’s has some success in the past, and this past year the Panthers did well offensively. That may have more to do with limited game tape on his offense + Cam and the option. Not to take anything away from their progress, but there is too many questions for me.
Zimmer is on target. Billick would be nice too. I would even entertain Chip Kelly.
I do want Spags or Del Rio as DC so it would be nice if the Bucs picked up the pace.

No thanks to Chud great coach but Zimmer just looks like the nxt Buc Coach
January 13th, 2012 at 4:27 pm
Say no to the Chud.
Not liking the smaller print, Joe.

JOe here,
@Mr.Gone – “Smaller print?” Must be your settings.
January 13th, 2012 at 4:52 pm
Give me Marty or Zimmer, no thanks to these other “candidates”

The Dolphins will likely be looking to hire their next HC and get all this Fisher fiasco behind them…. Do some damage control and move on from the negative press….. Zimmer is a guy that many have said that the Dolphins were interested in for their HC and if so they may try to lock him up sooner rather than later by offering a price for him the Bucs won’t match….. Sooner or later, the longer this is drug out, the Bucs may have to pick the best of what’s left…. Then many of the better OCs and DCs will be already signed by other teams!
January 13th, 2012 at 4:54 pm
I’m not feeling it. I need to see more than one year of success. Chudzinski’s time will probably come, but I don’t think it will be this year. He should stay with Carolina and build on what he’s started there.
It needs to be either Schottenheimer or Zimmer. If they want Zimmer they’ll have to move fast now.
January 13th, 2012 at 5:10 pm
Chud is intriguing but maybe Cam is just THAT good. It didn’t hurt that they already had a REALLY Good Running Game established from the previous regime. I think that Zimmer is the sort of Coach that this Team needs. The Next Best hires beyond him will be the Coordinators. Remember, we’re looking for a HEAD COACH… Not someone who has simply turned an Offense around with Above Average Talent. Of course, it’s just an Opinion.

Reminds me of Cam Cameron…pass
January 13th, 2012 at 5:24 pm
Fisher now with Rams. Should set everything else into motion. Where is the Billick interview, Glazers?!?!?!
January 13th, 2012 at 5:29 pm
Cam Cameron was very lucky he didn’t go 0-16, I’d take Marinelli anyday over that guy. Cameron was a joke.
January 13th, 2012 at 5:32 pm
This is GOOD news guys. It smart to go through all the options to make such an important decision.
I have no problem with this process so far..
January 13th, 2012 at 5:34 pm
We are going to have to speed this up now that we are in competition with Miami. Zimmer or Marty or Sherman can all put together a good staff so it wont matter much who the HC is. Marty is a short bandaid so hopefully he brings with him will have HC in them! Sherman isnt quite as bad as i first thought he was, he did develop a QB and made Favre better. He was good with young talent in G.B.
January 13th, 2012 at 5:40 pm
No problem with the process but they better get some Pep in their Step !! Time is not as abundant as it might seem.
January 13th, 2012 at 6:05 pm
I’m not saying Chud is the guy….but I’m not sure why people are calling him a 1 hit wonder. I believe he was the offensive coordinator in Cleveland when Derrick Anderson had his good year. If you can turn Derrick Anderson into a Pro-Bowl alternate…..that’s saying something.
January 13th, 2012 at 6:18 pm
Making Derrick Anderson have 1 good year doesnt mean he has what it takes to Run an NFL Football team and lead 53 Guys every Sunday.
January 13th, 2012 at 6:43 pm
Was also the off cord at the U when they won 32 straight games
January 13th, 2012 at 6:46 pm
Justin “Commish”. Just heard. Hang in there. Buc fans need you
January 13th, 2012 at 6:52 pm
Mike zimmer just looks like a great HC.
January 13th, 2012 at 7:32 pm
For all we know, CAM is a one year wonder as well. A lot of first year QBs do okay in their rookie years, but in the following year they suck because teams know them better.
Cam reminds me of Michael Vick…I’m not impressed at all.
And Chud hasn’t shown any true coaching ability. Cam is doing everything on natural talent thus far. Instinctual.
Which isn’t to say Chud cannot be a good HC…but I think it’s a high risk type of move.
Grimm, Clements, Billick, or whoever…I want an offensive coach…but one with at least a little more track record than Chud.
He’s good at developing Tight Ends…Cam is about the only QB I know of that he has worked with…so 1 year experience doing it?
January 13th, 2012 at 7:35 pm
So if Chud is next .. then Zimm … Saving the Best for Last ??
Also … Hue Jackson would possibly be the OC with Zimm as they have a history.
January 13th, 2012 at 7:51 pm
Killa cam is no one year wonder. The guy is a beast! It just suck we gotta play them twice a year.
January 13th, 2012 at 8:40 pm
Let me hold on to my hopes as long as possible 😛
January 14th, 2012 at 9:28 am
Chud made Derrick Anderson a Pro Bowl QB in Cleveland of all places…dude must have some skills.
But, are the Glazers/Fans ready to gamble on another unproven commodity at HC?
Personally…I prefer Zimmer
