“I Like Where The Glazers Are Going”

The former Buccaneers scout and Jets team executive and linebackers coach, now a busy analyst for CBS Sports, NFL.com and Sirius NFL Radio, is fuming at how the Bucs jilted his friend Raheem.
Speaking on 770 AM out of Fort Myers yesterday, Kirwan explained:
“I like where the Glazers are going in their philosphy for their new head coach,” Kirwan said. “And whether it’s Mike Sherman, who I think is the lead dog in this thing right now, or even a guy like Brad Childress or Marty Schottenheimer, the M.O. is the right one in my mind. And that is a veteran head coach, a no-nonsense guy who’s going to get some structure back into this place and the tail’s no longer going to wag the dog.
“So why do I say that? They had so many young players that I think misinterpreted Raheem’s youth and friendship for weakness. And they betrayed their coach. … I was furious with what those young guys did as a group. I took a lot of heat a year ago when I kept saying on the air, ‘Don’t, don’t miss the opportunity to re-sign Barrett Ruud. [Punits said] Oh, Barret Ruud makes too many tackles downfield.’
“I said, ‘Barrett Ruud’s a veteran who can line those young guys up and he actualy has values that can help those young guys understand preparation.’ The last game of the year the only disgraceful team on the weekend was Tampa Bay. And it’s not for a lack of talent it was a lack of effort and misguided rationale for how they were going to play. So get the veteran coach in here and Mark Dominik will work great with whoever they hire.”
Yes, Joe knows the Bucs say they’re not going to pigeonhole themselves in their search for a head coach. And while the disciplinarian/retread types are the known candidates (minus Wade Phillips who’s hardly a stickler for behavior), Joe thinks the Bucs would be just fine with a younger, fresher face who also runs a tight ship.
Mike Zimmer, the Bengals’ successful defensive coordinator, is an interesting possibility. Anyone who saw him on Hard Knocks years ago could only walk away thinking that guy would run a very tight ship.

Now where I disagree is with this concept of “I like where the Glazers are headed.” which for the Glazers – they are headed for the bank – as often as possible.
We need the best guy; young, old, tall, short, expensive whatever – there cast of candidates coincidentally consists of cheap options.
Dont rule out coordinators. Just bc Rah was incompetent and not respected doesnt mean that all young coaches are the same. I hate knee jerk reactions.

On Jan. 5, 2012, Ira Kaufman reported that”Schottenheimer was not atop the Bucs’ list”. I posted that the Glazers may be concerned about the chemistry between themselves, Mark Dominik, and the new coach.
I also said that I recalled Schottenheimer as a General Patton type that is not afraid to speak his mind. I further stated that teams rarely fire coaches with 14-2 records unless there is something wrong other than on-the-field performance. I pointed out that there have been 26 coaching changes since 2007, the year Schottenheimer was let go, and the Bucs is his first and only interview.
On Jan 6, 2012, Rick Stroud reported that “The Bucs want a coach who can work with Dominik. I don’t think they want a guy who wants to run personnel. They will have to get along with Mark Dominik”.
Then I ran across the link below and it might explain why the Bucs have not made a decision yet and why they will continue to interview.

not to say that Marty was completely without fault in the situation….but the GM AJ Smith is well known for being stubborn, and well pretty much a major dick. i’d be willing to bet my life that the majority of the blame could fall on Smith’s shoulders.

That is a good artcle, Macabee, nice job finding it. To me, it sounds like Marty’s coaching staff was outstanding and were given opportunities above their current positions. You can’t deny them the opportunity. It shows that Marty can pick a good staff. I like his attitude and mentality. He is a winner.

I cannot believe he used the words Childress and Structure in the same sentence. Can we all agree the Glazers better only be probing Childress for information OR preparing to make him a coordinator, not the HC?
And why is Sherman’s name being brought up? I don’t want anyone giving the Glazers ideas about that guy, unless they’re getting advice on field paint.

Well the guy had a 35-13 record over 3 years … He deserved some pull with his assistants. Lets face it … some of his assistants have a pretty decent track record.
Not sure why its been so quiet on the Zimmer front. I think he will be a very good HC. He has great desire to be one, compared to a fired re-tread like Sherman who will just say sure … I would like to coach again. A&M fired him while oweing him quite a bit of money. They were obviously motivated to say CYA LATER>

I like Zimmer. Whats interesting is that you have not heard La Canfora or Shfter talk about Bucs interviewing Zimmer, but some of the others have. Its definitely under the radar. Given the Glazers use of disinformation, Zimmer is the real target, not the “Space Cowboys”.

I would love a trio of guys.
Marty or Sherman as HC for the overall structure.
Someone like Zimmer or Nolan (or maybe Grey) as the DC
as far as OC, not sure, but also think they need a no nonsense guy, but it doesn’t have to be a retread HC

I love ZIMMER’s passion and dedication, something the Bucs of 2011 lacked.
Bring in ZIM, draft a stud OFFENSIVE PLAYMAKER W the #5 pick, and pick up some FA’s.
If onlt the Glazer clan would be willing to pay for talent. They just don’t care about winning, fact.
Dominick is as much a rockstar as the Glazers are High Rollers!

Great Link Macabee, and what a story about Marty.
Spanos is a crazy Greek, well known for his temper. And Smith as San Diego GM was and is a tyrant. He wanted to micro manage Marty, and you don’t do that.
He might just be able to get along better here with the hands off Glazers, and a humble Rockstar. I say a humble Rockstar, because I would hope Mark might bow out, and allow Marty to build Tampa a winning team.

Sure Apple … Dominik has built a team so Lame Marty Schott is very intrigued by our young team and wants to coach it.
Maybe the youngest team in the NFL should be all pros str8 across the board. I am not gonna judge Dominik oh His FA pickups … some have sucked but I also feel his hands have been tied.
We here he signed Clayton and Black ( who knows how much Raheem had to do with that since they were his Allstars ) but he also re-signed Penn and Joseph Both Pro-Bowl Caliber players and has drafted IMO very well with a few misses which is normal.
So If this team is so lack of talent … WHy the interest from Marty ?? I dont see him chasing dawn Jax, Miami or St. Louis ??
