Brian Schottenheimer Will Not Join Dad

Last night when the Jets announced that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer resigned, it got Bucs fans in a tizzy.
With Schottenheimer’s dad, Marty, already interviewed by the Bucs and hinting at a second interview, talking like he was all excited to lead the Bucs into a new era, it seemed like a precursor of Marty Schottenheimer’s eventual hiding.
But BSPN’s Adam Schefter suggests Bucs fans hit the brakes. Speaking on the Mike and Mike Show this morning, Schefter said even if Marty Schottenheimer gets the Bucs gig, his son will not join him.
If Marty Schottenheimer gets that job, Brian Schottenheimer will not go with him. That will not be a match that will end up being made. I feel that Brian wants to be on his own. He doesn’t want to be with his dad. He wants to make a name for himself. Brian Schootenheimer wants to branch out on his own situation. Brian Schottenheimer will find a great job somewhere else. Brian Schottenheimer wants to shine in his own situation in his own job without the shadow of his father right there. That will be a union that won’t take place.
Well, so much for that idea. Joe also thought the younger Schottenheimer’s resignation with the Jets was a precursor of Marty being hired as Bucs coach.

How would that be a bad move? If he succeeds in getting Freeman and our offense going he could eventually take over as head coach. It seems pretty stupid if he wouldn’t even consider it. I’m sure he could learn tons from his old man who last checked was a helluva lot more successful than chocking Ryan.

Brian has already made a name for himself and it’s not very good. If Marty is here and Brian can’t get a job, guess what will happen.

Since there’s no possible way anyone outside the Bucs would even consider hiring Mike Sherman as a head coach right now, is it possible they could convince him to come in and be the OC under Marty? Giving him a chance to rehab his name while possibly taking over from Marty in a few years might be an attractive situation for him. Just wondering.

Just because Brian did poorly (and that’s debatable), it doesn’t mean he cannot get better.
Here’s some what ifs:
1) What if Marty comes and decides to use the #5 on a quarterback?
2) What if Marty comes and chooses Raheem Morris as his secondaries coach?

Brian Schotty was a Rockstar in his own right just a few years back. When Ryan came in and kept him he had to see something in Brian. The last 2-3 years have seen the Jets play round robin with WR, RB and all with a suspect QB in my oppinion. Sanchez is a lot like Flacco. He shows signs of brilliance but then shows signs of being Dilferesque (See Caretaker not Playmaker). Not sure Brian was the complete problem but maybe more of a victim of his own circumstance ( being with Ryan and little to work with). Shonn Green being the real highlight of that offense when he is getting the carries. Three Big Headed WR didn’t help.

But i heard the same from Adam Sheftler this morning. He want to make a name for himsefl.

On Sanchez, we have seen that he certainly does not have the skill or arm strength of the other 2 QB’s taken in the first round of that draft.

I think Sanchez is better than people give him credit as being. I think in 5 years, Freeman, Stafford and Sanchez will be viewed as one of the best QB classes in recent history.
I still think when it all shakes out, we’ll have the better QB though.

I wouldn’t worry about the timing of the head coach search. The Jags already got Malarky, Chiefs kept Crennel and either the Dolphins/Rams will get Fisher. Only one of them and the Raiders will be the teams trying to beat us for the best coach.
I want them to interview Mike Zimmer. Although Marty is my #1 choice right now, notice that teams throughout the past several years have been hiring rising coordinators as their HC’s, not veteran retreads. Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy fill that description when they were hired and look how great they’ve been.
I feel like Mike Zimmer could be a great coach.

Dad is sitting back saying “Son, don’t be so darn pig headed. In one or two years you WILL be the GUARENTEED coach. And if for some reason it doesn’t work out, you will still get your chance to pick where you want to go to coach.”
Meanwhile, his stuborn son ends up passing up on a fantastic opportunity.

Not so fast, there are some candidates out there for OC and DC that would be snatched up quickly by any new HC. If we’re too late to the party, the hot chicks are already with someone else.
