Next 48 Hours Critical For Jeff Fisher

Joe knows that many Bucs fans are pining for former Titans coach Jeff Fisher to be named the next Bucs coach. With Fisher being heavily courted by Miami and St. Louis, it would stand to reason those two teams are the frontrunners for his services.
Armed with that information, it seems
popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, beer-chugging Peter King of Sports Illustrated is of the mind that within two days, NFL types will know where Fisher is leaning, so King Twittered this afternoon.
@SI_PeterKing: I would assume we’ll know the fate of Jeff Fisher, or at least his very strong leaning, within 48 hours.
Add to the intrigue that good guy Maoist Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports yesterday wrote that there were two teams with head coach openings that “do not seem” interested in Fisher, Kansas City and Tampa Bay. Silver did not elaborate further.
Silver’s information seems to back up what eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune earlier this week said, that the suits at One Buc Palace are indifferent to landing Fisher.

I love how if the Glazers don’t want to pay a good but average coach elite coach type money it is because they are cheap and don’t care. I’m honestly with Joe on this one……while I think Fisher is a decent enough coach I would rather have a guy like Zimmer or Grimm. Look at our division alone….Rivera, Payton, Smith……no retreads. Harbaugh, McCarthy, Tomlin, Schwartz the list goes on and on.

At least we have a 17-31, no playoffs, never drafted a pro bowl player “rockstar” GM with a 4 year contract.

Just settling for the most recognizable name is not selecting the Best Option.
The Bucs next head coach is going to come out of left field, just like Dungy did and will be met with as much skepticism until he proves it on the field.

Hearing the Bucs are showing little interest in Jeff Fisher, makes me think all the more that the new Tampa Head Coach has already been selected with an unofficial handshake deal, just like I was told.
The “plot thickens” with the revelation that Mike Sherman and Mark Dominik have the same Agent!
Remember, this Agent was able to secure a 4 year contract extension for the unproven
Mark Dominik, so he is pretty good at selling the Glazers. You know Mark Dominik is going to be pulling for Sherman because of the common Agent they share.
Actually, the more I look at Mike Sherman, the more I like him.

@holy buc he would be a perfect fit for this team!! He would turn these Yungry kids in into men and become a winning team while doing it. He would bring toughness and discipline and the players love him in cinci. And his defenses have all been successful. Im all for it!!!

Apple the more I read of your posts the less I like your posts. Sherman is terrible. 25-25 in college…… I would rather have Jon Grudens oldest son as head coach than Sherman. Interviewing him is just stupid!!!!!!

I am so sick of people saying the Glazers are cheap for not overpaying for the “safe” coaching choice of Fisher.
The Glazers may be cheap (and probably are) but you don’t win in the NFL by being safe, or average, which is exactly what Fisher is. He is a name that was around so long that everyone knows it. Most people also know that he is about as AVERAGE as you can get.
Take a freaking risk! I respect the Glazers for having some balls at least and not going after (or keeping) AVERAGE coaches. There is a bunch of stuff I don’t respect them for, but this sure isn’t one of them…

Zimmer or Grimm are risks. Just like Tony Dungy and Raheem Morris they are risks. So there may be a huge upside or a huge downside (i.e. Dungy and Morris). At this point after reaching for Morris I would prefer we take a safer route and get at least organizational and leadership skills which are proven. One more miss by the Glazers and this fanbase will be pushed to the brink. Do we really trust the Glazers to reach for one more coordinator?? If they are anything like Raheem it will be a huge damage to the Tampa area. I say go the safe route and get Fisher in here for an interview. Are you kidding me that he is not even going to be interviewed???? Thats what Adam Shecter is reporting is that Fisher is going with either the Rams or Dolphins. Great job Glazers your cheap ways have the best candidates totally bypassing the Bucs!!!

So….Fisher has a 146-120 record as a HC and he’s ‘the man’ for Tampa but Sherman has a 57-39 .663 record as head coach at Green Bay, second only to Lomabardi..and he’s a no-no??? I don’t give a $#@! what he did in college, he ain’t gonna be coaching college. I wouldn’t mind Sherman and I think he’d be a better fit than Fisher. He’s not my first choice but he’d be fine.

It’s a toss up. With Sherman, we can gauge somewhat of a result.
With Kelly, he’s a wild card and the sky can be the limit…or he can suck.
Personally, I would rather try for a few other guys first.

Several persons here think Fisher would be a bad choice (I would take him over Sherman though).
Alright, people…here’s the deal. The Glazer boy said money will not be an obstacle. They are they owners. We have NO CHOICE but to hope they keep their word…to hope for the best.
You are not getting the guy you want so you are yelling about it being over money? What if they get Grimm? You think he’ll come cheap? Or the guy in Atlanta? Or several other mentioned guys?
I said it before and I’ll say it again…the Glazers are just interviewing the coaches that are in lesser demand because they can’t interview the others until their season is officially over. Be patient. It’s only been a couple days.
Last time they hurried, we ended up with Raheem. You claim that was a mistake, so let them take their time. So what if Fisher signs elsewhere???? That’s one less team to compete for the other guys that will become available.
Because of the relationship we have with Tomlin…I’m thinking (hoping) Grimm will be the guy. He’s got rings too you know.

Anything, anything, is an improvement over what we just had.
My concern with firing Gru was that we would replace him with a horrible coach, I was wrong, I under estimated, we replaced Gru with the worst coach in NFL history.
This time I really don’t care bc anyone is a step up.
I does make me nervous that our idiot gm who couldn’t tell that this was a debacle ( when I could clearly tell) indicating cluelessness is still involved.

Although I believe there are better hires than Sherman out there, I’d be okay with him if he brings skilled coordinators along with him.
He had a recruiting disadvantage vs Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to a degree while at A&M. They have good talent there, but not as many elite players as those other three Big 12 schools. It’s hard to win consistently against those top schools.
In the NFL he’ll have more of a level field of available talent. He proved he can coach at Green Bay and he’s known to be extremely detail oriented and intelligent, things that Raheem was lacking in (no offense, Raheem supporters).
Again, not supporting Sherman here, but if he’s the guy then at least this team will be headed back in the right direction. Personally I’d prefer Jerry Gray over most of the other candidates. We need elite defense again and he can provide that.

Who’s to say that the hand shake Apple is going on about is not with fisher. It could just be that, no need to bring him in for an interview he already has said yes.
My choices would be
#1 Marty Schottenhimer (proven winner with great contacts)
#2 Mike Malarke (doubt the falcons would let him interview)
#3 Brian Billack (has a good idea already of our personel having commentating several of our games)
#4 Jeff Fisher (who knows what to do with a big back and a noble QB )

I wanted to report that I seen Mike Malarkey in publix the other day he asked me if I was a bucs fan, ( I had on my new bucs cap) Hell yeah! Since 1976! He smiled and said that you do know your less than 1 mile from The falcon complex. Yeah I told him and that’s nice, but I am a Buccaneer fan. He said we have had a rough few months. The Glazers must think we as fans are really dumb. Sherman was only paid 2.2 million at Texas A&M. Hmmm. He did well in Green Because because of Brett Favre. Come to think of it, he should have done better, because he had Brett Favre. He only won 2 playoff games. Only two AND he had Brett Favre during the good years. He was fired by the Texans for having a shiat offense. He was fired by Texas A&M for having a shiat offense and not being able to adapt in DECEMBER of this year. Hmm lets bring him hear and ruin #5 even more. Lets bring him here because he did such a good job with the young guys in Texas.
Bring him here why? 2 million and he’s “known.” Hmmm.

If some of you are so sold on Jim Kelly then you should be screaming for them to bring in Jim Tressel who went 135-57-2 at Youngstown State with 4 NCAA championships and 94-22 at OSU with 3 BCS title appearances and 1 championship. I’d say he has a little bit better pedigree than Kelly huh???
