Davin Joseph Gets The Grass Skirt

December 28th, 2011

On what surely will be an excursion devoted to procuring a quality elephant, Davin Joseph is heading to Hawaii for the 2012 Pro Bowl.

Tapping all the drama they could muster, the AFC and NFC teams were announced last night on NFL Network. Joseph is the lone Buccaneer on the rosters. Yes, Connor Barth got hosed.

It’ll be Joseph’s second Pro Bowl; he scored a visit after the 2008 season when he was named an alternate. For that trip, Joseph paid for his mom, Jeremy Trueblood, Donald Penn and Aaron Sears to join him.

Joseph surely earned his honor and managed to stay healthy this season. Joe wonders what the right side of the Bucs line might look like with a true beast playing alongside Joseph.

This is Davin Josephs’ finest hour so I won’t spoil it by using this post to hammer Trueblood. So congrats, Davin. That block you threw to spring Blount in the Packers game got my vote!

  2. TheProsUseAdvoCare Says:

Great news for Joseph. Indeed, he might be the starter if he had quality on either side of him.

  3. Meh Says:

    Our best player. No contest.

  4. Higher728 Says:

I would love to see Joseph’s picture on the outside stadium wall next year. Along with Barth, who I think deserved a pro bowl slot this year.

Speaking of BEasts .. The RT from Stanford Jonathan Martin is ranked around 7 on most big boards but out of all the top tackles he is the Strongest in bulldozing in the run game and has the athleticism to consistently hit the 2nd level. Pass Block game is good and if he improves there he has ALL PRO potential.

    Just an idea

I don’t think u can draft a right tackle with a top ten pick. Congrats davin

  7. jvato24 Says:

What if he plays LT just as well and can be our Swing Tackle in case Penn GOes DOwn ??

  8. Greig Says:

    How did Barth get hosed?
    He doesn’t perform kickoffs.
His 25 made FGs in middle of the pack for the NFC.
Sure he has decent results when he gets on the field but no better than others who see the field more often.

Akers might not be the right pick but he deserves it over Barth

  9. Meh Says:

Barth made 93% of his attempts. He deserved a pro bowl spot.

  10. Meh Says:

And yes, that is ‘better than others’. Only Matt Bryant had a better percentage of makes, and just barely (one extra attempt, which he made). And Barth’s long was 4 yards longer than Bryant (55 yards vs 51 yards).

I’m with Higher728 on having Davin’s picture on the outside of the stadium. Like to see more Joesph #75 jerseys in the stores as well.

  12. Bucbeliever Says:

and I’d like to see Clayborn on the stadium as well…maybe an action shot of his hit on Matt Ryan…

    GO BUCS!

  13. Dave Says:

    Bucbeliever

Clayborn will get there, but you can not put rookies or even 2nd year guys there in my opinon.

  14. Dave Says:

I saw ALOT of Davin Joseph haters early this year (some of the same old people who hate on almost everything).

Where are they? I am sure they will be here explaining how he doesn’t deserve it, etc…

  15. Patrick Says:

How nice is it that he invited Aron Sears

  16. thibs5599 Says:

    @Jvato24

You could be right about that. A road grading right tackle who can pass block as well would not only help Freeman it would also help Blount or any RB in the backfield. Plus who knows how long Penn would play i think his contract would run out around the time our first round picks does. Plus he has always had weight problems. I say we take the best available player, we need so much as long as it is not a D lineman I will be fine with whoever we draft.

  17. Meh Says:

I never understood why people were hating on Joseph. Now trueblood I understand, but Joseph has been a bright spot all year.

  18. Meh Says:

And Penn will be fine. We have enough holes without making more for no good reason.

  19. Wienaman Says:

Akers made 42 field goals on the season, ten more than anyone else in the league, setting a new NFL record. He also made 7/9 from the 50+ range, with a long of 55, just like Barth (Barth made 2/3). Akers had three FG blocked too; take those out of his percentage, and you are at 91% for him. Just the fact that he set an NFL record alone puts him into the category where he deserves the Pro Bowl over anyone else; the rest is just gravy.

  20. Meh Says:

Number of attempts is a pointless stat to measure a FG kicker by. The kicker doesn’t choose his attempts, that is completely dependent on the offense.

  21. Wienaman Says:

I pointed out that he MADE ten more field goals than anyone else in the league; had he made one of the three he missed, or for that matter, not even had one of those attempts from 50+, he would have been 7/8 from 50+, AND he would have been 42/45 overall (again, negating blocks) which would have been 93.3 percent. 2/3 equates out to 6/9 from 50+; so Barth had a lower percent of field goals made from 50+ than Akers did. You are saying that Barth is better than Akers based on the fact that he has a better percentage; but when it comes down to it, Akers missed one more LONGGGG field goal than Barth; if that long field goal had not been attempted, Akers would have had hte same percent. You talk about how the kicker doesn’t choose his attempts; you can’t hold it against Akers either, if you are going to make that argument.

  22. Meh Says:

Akers had a great year, but you’re right, I think barth should have been in based on percent alone. A kickers job is to make the kicks he’s given, and nobody did that better than barth this year.

  23. thibs5599 Says:

gotta love barth but come one akers had 42 field goals for a winning team, there is no argument for barth. May barth be the better kicker, possibly, but that is like saying blount should get in the pro bowl because if he was given more carries he would have had better stats than the guys who made it, you just cant do that

  24. knucknbuc Says:

Now all we got to do is get rid of his butt buddy (Trueblood, J) to the right of him and DJ will wouldn’t just be a pro bowler, he would be a hall of famer lol.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Congratulations Davin Joseph! You played great this season.

Oddly, still no votes at all for the “elite” Aqib Talib.
Strange no one but a few local posters think he’s any good. Lol!
