Chucky Bowl Looming For 2012

"Hey Dominik, me and Sam Bradford and Caddy are gonna eat you for lunch next year"
As Joe briefly touched on in the Morning Cup of Joe today, and what is now buzzing around NFL circles, Chucky wants back in coaching for 2012 and St. Louis or San Diego could be high on his Christmas list.
Joe hopes Chucky gets either job. Why? Because the Bucs will play both the Rams and the Chargers next season.
Would a Chucky return muster a home sellout and/or stimulate a national TV appearance?
If nothing else, the Buc facing Chucky in 2012 would pump a little extra excitement into next year, especially if Raheem Morris is Chucky’s new defensive backs coach and Greg Olson is coaching his QB.

He could do well in San Diego. I’m not sure he’d do very well coaching the Rams though. They need a coach that can handle some serious rebuilding, and that is Chucky’s weak point.

I’d be rooting for them if it were Gruden-Morris-Olsen. Stupid Glazers will be kicking themselves over ‘what shoulda been’.

As much as I admire Gruden as a coach, if he were to hire Morris as “any” coach I would 1) be happy as hell Morris is gone, and 2) Lose any admiration I have for Gruden as a Head Coach. Gruden is his own QB coach.

Gruden, with committed owners, will have any NFL team quickly competing for a super bowl – just like in Oakland and Tampa. Most people forget that the team he built, Oakland, and the team he repaired, our Bucs, played against each other in that memorable Super Bowl. Gruden turned Gannon into a MVP.
We all got tired of the ego, but I much prefer that to getting blown out every week.
I know you sheep want to believe that Gru was fired for drafting poorly, that is flat out not true (funny how you hold Gru responsible for McKay Allen draft picks but Dom resp for Rah Dom draft picks).
The truth is: Gru told the Glazers you need to increase the budget, the Glazers said no we are doing the opposite, Gru objected – the Glazers tried to get Allen on board, he refused – so they fired them
Both thinking public sentiment was on their side.
They believed theg had a 3 year grace period, they were wrong – after 3 years we are the NFL’s biggest embarrassment with an unparalleled streak of non-competitive play.
The positive: there will be NO step backward when we scrap this dumb plan.

If Raheem had remained the DB coach and Olson the QB coach three years ago we would’ve avoided this entire mess and been a competitive team with almost any experienced head coach, defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator out there. My how hindsight is 20/20. I hope this is a lesson learned and the Bucs never go down this path again.

I was listening to Ian Beckles this morning and for once I thought he actually made sense while tearing the Bucs a new one. He doesn’t think the timing is right for bringing in a new coach. The Glazers have to spend money in 2013 and they are going to have some high draft picks coming up this year. He thinks the Glazers will try to give Morris some FA’s and some weapons in the draft to help improve the talent. It makes more sense to spend the money on players instead of a new coach and hope that last year wasn’t a fluke and that Morris will turn things around with the right talent. He’s not trying to make a case for Morris retaining his job….he’s just stating what he feels may happen. If you’re the Glazers, what do you care if people don’t fill the stadium for another year? They haven’t been attending for two years now. If things aren’t looking up by 2013 then you go with a coaching change. He did say they will probably limit him to HC and get a DC and possibly a new OC but I can see his point as to why the timing may be off for the Glazers to pull the plug right now. If they actually got active in the FA market and filled some holes with some quality vets to change the attitude of these kids and we got some good draft picks (Trent Richardson or Morris Claiborne or possibly Kuechly would be nice) then I believe we would see a different result next year. Anyway, I’m not a big fan of Ian Beckles but today I thought he made some good observations. He talked about how Brooks, Sapp, Lynch, & Barber, all those guys weren’t very good at the beginning and how it takes time but the attitude has to be there and the work ethic has to be there. He questioned whether a lot of these players have that ethic and I would have to agree.

I like Jon Gruden and was furious when he was fired.
So I will be interested in seeing if he returns and where he decides to go.
He made things interesting, was always competitive and won a Super Bowl here.
I believe he won more games than any other HC in Buccaneer history.
I wish him the best except on the day when his team plays the Buccaneers……..OBVIOUSLY!

@FLBoyInDallas….I don’t agree that we’d have been competitive with a different HC. We can’t continue to plug holes with 5th, 6th, and 7th round talent and expect to be competitive. When the entire team was healthy we were competitive. The more injuries began to take their toll the more our lack of depth began to bite us. Any HC needs quality talent to work with. Saying a new HC would have given us a winning season or a competitive team is like believing you can turn lead into gold. Besides, it’s all conjecture. However, history proves that coaching changes don’t provide the results fans or owners want. Maybe in isolated instances but not overall.

I can see Gruden in SD with a veteran team and QB, but for the love of God keep him away the Rams, he’ll ruin Bradford before he has a real chance to be an NFL QB.

Hey Bobby, your an idiot, its the perfect time to get rid of this crap, you take a chance of losing this town, if you thought attendance was an issue last year, wait till you inform all of us that you will be taking us through this another year, are you hearing yourself, from personnel to the head coaching, the ship has sunk, its in the bottom of the bay, theres no way they let him come back, you can hire an OC and DC with the hope that things get better in one year. So…..apparently you’ve all forgotten going to the games during Gruden’s last year and listening to the screams (or screaming yourselves) “You SUCK Gruden!!!!” “YOU’RE DONE YOU BUM!!!!!”
And those were some of the mild ones I heard as Jamarcus Russell and Oakland kicked our ass, etc. Now suddenly he’s the second coming of Lombardi. How did that coaching change work for you so far? Are you saying we should have given Gruden more time but not Raheem??? Hmmmmm? C’mon, be consistent. I’m not saying we should keep Raheem but let’s not cheer for Chucky as being so great because that is NOT how the fans felt in his final year. Why do you think they have sayings like “Be careful what you wish for.” and “The grass is always greener on the other side.” ??

They are smart enough to know that winning is all fans want. If they can accomplish that then they will be hearing the same stuff about Raheem that some of these jokers are saying about Gruden. “I’m glad we stuck with him.” “All he needed was the right players.” “I have to admit, I wanted him fired but I’m glad the Glazers stuck with him.” Fans are fickle by nature. The Glazers are making money whether they lose the town or not. The fans will return when the Bucs win and that WILL happen. If you sell a team you want to sell when someone will pay top dollar for it, not when it’s in the cellar. See Bobby…the concept here is to make money in business…is that clear enough for you? Now go back out to your ‘occupy Tampa’ group…

@Bobby, There are 2 things that you overlook. )1 Gruden, for all his ego faults, was a Great Head coach. and 2) Raheem, even though likable, was Never, and will Never be, a real Head Coach. You can call a horse a dog, but he still cannot whinny. Just because the Glazer Sons “Named” him a head coach sure didn’t Make him one. I think his record speaks for itself.

Funny its guys like you that dont understand that we never wanted Rheem to start with, you must have consumed to much egg nog over the holiday to not see that keeping Rheem around for another year is a mistake, if im special then, that would be you sitting next to me on the short bus, I believe Gruden won 7 games his final year, and the team never quit on him, they may have been tired of hearing his big mouth, but they never quit. The words the players are telling us is as clear as a bell, we wont play for this guy, do you understand that, hold on let me type really slow for you. F-I-R-E R-H-E-E-M N-O-W. THERE IS NO REASON TO WAIT.

Tampa2….#1. If Gruden was so good then why did the fans demand his firing?? #2. Do you honestly believe anyone has the ability to predict whether someone will be a good HC after three short years? If you believe that then you would have thrown Belichick under the bus after he was fired in Cleveland after 3 years. All HC’s learn on the job. It’s not instant success usually. Harbaugh had the advantage of a brother that was already coaching in the NFL and I’m sure he was picking his brain for years. It’s almost always a process with ups and downs. Morris can absolutely be a good HC. I don’t know whether he’s the right fit for such a young roster but I think you are forgetting what he did last year which was remarkable.

Who did you want little Bobby??? Were you posting about firing Raheem after last season?? NO. You weren’t, and if you were then you may be Thomas’ brother. You lack any sort of logic and operate on blind stupidity and hatred which is something that most fans do. They have no ability to live beyond the moment and if that moment comes in the midst of a losing season the answer is always to change everything because the reality is…they don’t know how to fix it and they think a new HC will. Did you read the article link I posted that said HC changes DON’T WORK. The results as far as wins v losses is nearly identical over the last ten years with new coaches. Usually the formula for success is to build the team with stability and outlast the fans, realizing that they are gonna scream and kick all the way to the superbowl.

Just for the record…I wouldn’t mind if they brought in a new HC who was a disciplinarian to get these guys to at least play with effort but I’m not expecting what you guys are. I still think we are 2-3 years away from being competitive in our division.

Bobby…..Bobby…..no need to yell and get your blood pressure up. You might think about anger management.. Anyway, this year we beat New Orleans and Atlanta so it’s not like we CAN’T beat anybody. I would agree that we have regressed for the last 9 games. The only game I thought we balled in was Green Bay. Unlike you, I don’t think the magic pill is a new HC. It may be but history shows that more than likely..it’s not. Now I realize that there is NO OTHER ANSWER for you…all I’m saying is that other people are offering up differing points of view. That’s what Beckles program was all about. You don’t like other opinions besides yours…fine. Just take the caps off…I worry you may have a stroke.

JUST FOR THE RECORD, I POSTED ON THIS SITE PRIOR TO THE SEASON STARTING THAT THE BUCS WERE DRIVING A GEO METRO AT 100 MILES AN HOUR, AND IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME, BEFORE THE WHEELS FELL OFF AND I WAS LAUGHED AT BY PEOPLE ON THIS SITE, INCLUDING JOE, THAT I WAS CRAZY. Good! Your laughing! ‘smile’. Just remember…this is only a game. It gets frustrating as heck at times but it is a business to people like the Glazers and a game to us as fans. As fans it’s difficult to accept decisions that are made on the ‘business’ side of things because we want the team to win now. It’s no fun watching the once proud Bucs get rolled every week. I just have to trust that the Glazers didn’t become billionaires by just sitting back and accepting the status quo. They will make changes where they feel the changes should be made. It may or may not include a HC change but I am absolutely sure there WILL be changes. I just happen to believe that this stew hasn’t been in the pot long enough to call done. It needs some more ingredients and give it a little more time before throwing it out and starting over.
