“More Fundamental Tackle Drills” Coming

Joe can only imagine the tense vibe that might permeate Bucs practices this week. The team is on a nine-game skid with four straight blowouts, has seemingly quit on its head coach, whose seat his broiling hot, and it’s the holiday season.
Not exactly a recipe for a healthy work environment.
Plus, Raheem Morris can’t even run a nasty, physical week of practice because of the new labor agreement rules.
Regardless, Raheem gave a glimpse into what’s coming at practice this week during his postgame news conference yesterday. Without yet watching the ugly game tape, Raheem knows his team can’t tackle. So he’ll focus more — again — on the fundamentals. (No, not the core beliefs, the other fundamentals.)
“We gotta tackle better. So I got to do more fundamental tackle drills, which we’ve been doing. We’ve gotta find a way to get Cam Newton on the ground and all these other backs,” Raheem said. “When you got people in the hole you expect to make those tackles, you like to make those tackles. We’re not. So I gotta do a better job coaching up how to tackle this week.”

What’s the point. Raheem has to know he’s a goner. Enjoy your holiday coach and don’t do us any favors. The players aren’t buying what your selling. I’d spend the time updating your resume. Your going to need it.

I’m a pretty optomistic guy, but even I know when to say uncle. Going back to fundamental tackling drills is akin to atttaching a hand bicycle pump to the rear-end of a dead mule – and there Morris is justa pumpin’ and a sweatin’. There are no signs of life here. This thing is flat-lined and the humane thing to do is to pull the plug (evaluate players who may be keepers) and look forward next year to fundamental changes in both strategy and staff to get this ship off the rocks!

This team is young, yes, but they look about as hungry as I do after an evening at an all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse. And they move about as fast, too.

How do you practice tackle drills without pads? full speed? Maybe they can use the coaches as tackling dummies.

Thomas, reluctantly I say, I can not remember ever seeing a team play this poorly, especially on defense, if you can even call it that. Starting a game when you know that you have absolutely no chance to win, zero, is the worst, like next week. The only remaining question is does Atlanta beat us by 30 or 40 points. It’s too bad the Bucs won’t get the first pick in the draft. They surely need it and deserve it. Even the Colts right now would beat the Bucs by 4 TD’s.

That’s why they sent their season ticket invoices out early this year. They knew this season was circling the bowl and they wanted to get as many people re-upped as possible before everyone else realized it. I’m willing to bet that not too many fans fell for it, though. Nice try Glazer boys. Wake Malcolm back up so he can correct your juvenile mistakes while there’s still time.

Back to the topic of fundamental drills…maybe they can through in some fundamental coaching drills at the same time. That would probably work a little better. And possibly a few fundamental free agent signing drills for Dominik. Oh, and toss in some fundamental ownership drills for the Glazer boys. Maybe Malcolm can bend the three of them over his wheelchair and beat some sense into them. A Christmas miracle that would be!

7:00-7:30 jumping jacks
7:30-8:00 sits ups and push ups
8:00-9:00 wind sprints
9:00-9:15 snack time
9:15-11:00 nap time
11:00-12:00 lunch time
12:00-3:00 movie time – watch sh**tiest team ever created.
Tuesday- rinse and repeat.
