Panthers Have Major Holes

December 21st, 2011

"Olie, this is your week. Fast, hard, smart and consistent."

While a potential new era for the Bucs is around the corner, there’s still a game in Carolina on Christmas Eve afternoon.

Joe’s still holding out hope that the Bucs show up when the opening whistle blows. (Not win, but at least show up.)

If the Bucs do manage to muster an effort, the Panthers and their porous banged up defense are waiting to be gutted. The Panthers have been riddled with injuries on their defense all season and it’s getting worse, especially in their secondary, notes the Charlotte Observer.

Injuries forced the Panthers into contingency plans in the 28-13 win at Houston, where backup corner R.J. Stanford saw action at safety and rookie corner Brandon Hogan made his NFL debut filling in for Captain Munnerlyn. With only four days to prepare for Saturday’s game against Tampa Bay, the Panthers (5-9) could be short-handed in the secondary again. Three of the team’s top five defensive backs missed or were limited for Tuesday’s practice.

It’s really time for Greg Olson to channel the old days of whatever he did through much of the second-half of 2010, or the first two series against Jacksonville.

Letting Mike Williams get shut out against the Cowboys last week was a travesty, much of which has to fall Olson. Find a way to get the ball in your playmakers’ hands. The slant pass shouldn’t be a recurring allergy.

    “Panthers have Major Holes”
That doesn’t sound right at all.

  2. Patrick Says:

Wow, I didn’t know that Greg Olsen was fired from both the Rams and Lions as their offensive coordinator!

That must mean he REALLY SUCKS!! And we kept this guy around after we fired Jagadzinski?

  3. Rob buc fan in Orlando Says:

With the Bucs having already given up on this season, don’t you dare go out there and screw up our top five draft pick guys. Winning now will only given the Cheapsters a reason to keep Raheem and company for another season of futility. Can’t believe it but the Bucs may lose ten in a row and still keep Raheem due to the Cheapsters not caring about paying for top talent or coaches.

  4. Meh Says:

Man the bar is low now. We’re just hoping the Bucs show up. Forget winning, just please show up and don’t embarrass yourselves.

I mean, I completely agree with you Joe, but it is just sad.

  5. Tye Says:

Even if the Panthers have major wholes it is most likely they are still a better, more explosive them than the Jaguars when we played them and also we still have Mo, Freeman and all the other same pieces that have been getting blown out the past 3 weeks….

I clean roofs for some professional athletes, and people on the inside of some well known Tampa Sports Organizations. I will share something I was recently told. A new coach has been decided on, is coming to Tampa, and Raheem will not be let go until the end of the season. This new coach that is coming is studying game film, and will be closely watching our remaining games to see what players stay, and what players go. I was also told the Glazers DO care about being competitive, and will go after free agents to make us so, next year.
This new coach will also have final say on our draft picks, and will be free to improve our scouting department.
I was not told the name of this new coach.

If what this person told me is true, it means the Glazers are aware they have a problem, and are working behind the scenes to fix it.”

I hope this is true!! I like Raheem, but I want to have fun again as a Bucs fan.

    Panthers Have Major Holes
the Bucs are certain to find and fall in them….

  8. Meh Says:

Patrick, that’s one hell of a big rumor from Apple.

  9. FLBoyInDallas Says:

If the Panthers have major holes, then the Bucs are one BIG hole. Nothing but hole. Hole all day long. Endless hole from horizon to horizon. Hole here, hole there, hole everywhere. The hole, whole hole and nothing but the hole. So help me god.

  10. Aceofaerospace Says:

That’s why I wish the Glazers would make a move (fire Morris and Olsen). Then I could at least root for my Bucs to win. Right now I’m rooting for the Panthers to seal-club us. Maybe then that’ll force their hand. Since the players have obviously quit, I can’t make myself continue to root for a team that’s not even trying.

“This new coach will also have final say on our draft picks, and will be free to improve our scouting department”

    Parcels
    JJ

  12. Travis Says:

Sorry Patrick, but organizations dont go around telling their roof cleaners very tight lipped info kept inside the organization. If you believe that rumor you I’ve got some air to sell you.

  13. Rob buc fan in Orlando Says:

I for one think the Buc head coaching job is among the most desirable in the entire NFL. (I am prejudiced though having been a Buc fan since 1980) It is not a stretch that any potential head coach, like Cowher or Fisher or whoever, is studying about the rosters of several clubs, including the Bucs, in case they get the call. If I stood to get a coaching offer of 5 million plus per year, I would be studying my potential teams as well. We have talent, Florida is awesome, Buc fans are among the most die hard in the world. We just need a little hope and something to cheer for, not this disgusting nightmare which has completely fallen apart before our eyes. All I want for Christmas is a quality experienced head coach and assistants, they will pick up the pieces and have a potential powerhouse with the young talent and prospective draft picks. If the Glazers are game!

  14. eric Says:

I sure hope the roof cleaning guy is right.

I wonder if we will have to suffer another “done deal” humiliation.

  15. OAR Says:

    “Panthers have Major Holes”…..
For a minute there I thought this was another story about thier cheerleaders and another bathroom fiasco!

  16. Architek Says:

The Bucs are depressing. I feel like I’m reading a death sentence or obiturary everytime I see an article on the Yucs.

  17. espo Says:

“Joe’s still holding out hope that the Bucs show up when the opening whistle blows. (Not win, but at least show up.)”

Seriously Joe? I still believe in “any given Sunday,” and I still believe in our guys. I can’t get involved in pick em pools or fantasy football because I can’t ever bring myself to pick against us, even if common sense dictates.

  18. Paul Says:

Got to root for the L now. Get our new coach a high pick. I’d at least like to see some hitting.

  19. FIRE RAH! Says:

    @oar rotflmfao. Thats classic.

  20. stevek Says:

Panthers are in a better place than the Bucs right now, they are going to blow us out…. again.

I hope APPLEROOFCLEANING is right, we need a complete change of house.

It isn’t all on RAH, they didnt spend a dime to assist him, and Olsen is a terrible play caller for the offense.

Bring back Ditka!!! J/K, but bring in a big name for the love of God.

  21. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Panthers biotch-slap us 41-14. This score seems to be a popular these days.

  22. stimpy Says:

Are you kidding me? The Jags have 25 players on IR, one offensive weapon and we couldnt do anything.

lmao…we are not winning another game EVER with this douchery of a team…

  23. Jonny Says:

If APPLEROOFCLEANING’s source is reliable, our next coach obviously could be someone without a job now, at least a full time job.

    Bill Cowher
    Jeff Fisher
    Mike Sherman
    Marty Schottenheimer
    Brian Billick

    are some possibilities.

  24. knucknbuc Says:

Bucs aint winning this game. Even if the panthers do have major holes in the secondary do you really think Olson can exploit it? Olson couldn’t move the ball offensively in madden against the computer on rookie mode. LOL. They had holes in their secondary last time we played them and they mollywapped us GTF outta here.

Hopefully apple roof cleaning is right. I don’t think Bucs officials go around telling their roof cleaners private information tho. So I kind of doubt it.

  25. Patrick Says:

Mike Sherman would be an interesting candidate, but I don’t know why everyone dislikes him so much. Had a very successful run as the Packers head coach: only one bad season out of 6 years.

  26. lightningbuc Says:

“If APPLEROOFCLEANING’s source is reliable, our next coach obviously could be someone……………WITH A CLEAN ROOF!

  27. jvato24 Says:

Mike “put on a jersey” Sherman hahaha

The name being floated as insider info on pewter Report message board yesterday is that the Bucs are heavily interested in Norv Turner.

    He isnt even fired yet.

I dont think anything is in stone … Maybe some names in the sand though.

  28. Capt.Tim Says:

Apples rumor is true. And it’s Jeff Fisher.

  29. Patrick Says:

    @Capt.Tim

    “And it’s Jeff Fisher”

    Says who?

  30. No One Says:

The Bucs can make second and third string players look like pro bowlers and hall of famers.

  31. Bucfanjeff Says:

If we fire Raheem, I hope we get an offensive minded coach.

***We ARE NOT a run first team.***

I will continue to preach that…look at our games, film doesn’t lie. We have more success when we go 3, 4 and 5 wide and spread it around.

  32. Bucfanjeff Says:

Also, Billick is detail oriented…if we fire Raheem, he’s my guess assuming JJ is not interested.

  33. Bucfanjeff Says:

That said, I think Raheem stays. (JJ is the one exception though, if he’s interested, I think the Glazer’s fire Raheem, otherwise he stays.)

  34. JK Says:

Cut the crap Joe. You and I both know the season is over. There is no emotion or anything that looks close to any player caring. As for who replaces the clown posing as a head coach, Jim Tressel wont be hired for at least five years in the college ranks. The Glazerhouses could probably get him cheap.

  35. Clintro Says:

I dont understand how ANY fan could ever utter the words that they hope the teams loses…… just.don’t.understand.

  36. Jrock Says:

    Clintro,

I believe a fan wants the very best for their team. For my team, I would want a super bowl, at least some playoff action. Is it happening this year? Zero chance, and not that moving up or down a spot or two in the draft is going to torpedo our chances next year, but being higher in the draft certainly helps our cause.

    Therefore, hoping for a loss.

  37. BigMacAttack Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Chucky come back. I didn’t want him to go in the first place, but I understood their decision. I would rather have Cowher over Billick, and Billick over Fisher, but beggars (season ticket holders not in club seats or suites) can’t be choosers.

I too hope you’re right Apple, that makes a whole lot of sense.

  38. passthebuc Says:
