Aqib Talib On IR; Jovan Haye Returns

December 19th, 2011

Another injury plagued season for Aqib Talib is over. He was placed on injured reserve today, so Raheem Morris announced on The Raheem Morris Show moments ago on WDAE-AM 620. Officially, Talib played in 13 games this season, but in two of those, including Saturday, he played a flimsy handful of snaps with a hamstring injury.

After four NFL seasons, it’s fair to say Talib has been unreliable when it comes to his health, missing significant action over the past three seasons. Talib’s next challenge is now his court date in March.

“Myron Lewis will get his opportunity,” Raheem said.

Replacing Talib on the roster is defensive tackle Jovan Haye, a former Bucs starter at the 3-technique who the Bucs passed on in free agency after the collapse of 2008. Tennessee had signed him to a fat deal, but he was cut by them this year and was last cut by Detroit last week. “

Raheem said Haye is “a familiar face around here” and “a character guy.”

Clearly Haye is auditioning for a job next season replacing Albert Haynesworth, who is scheduled to earn about $7 million in 2012. Haynesworth has proven he’s not worth that kind of cash.

    I read this and thought…

    Does it really matter anyway?

  2. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Now if they would put Sean Jones on IR or just plain sit his A$$ and put in Ahmad Black, we would be set. Can Black be any worse?

  3. Bobby Says:

Personally, I wouldn’t be disappointed if they replaced the entire secondary besides Ronde and let Gaitor, Lewis and Black play the final two games. I’d also like to see more of Watson, more of Madu. Let’s give these guys some playing time and see if they play with heart and effort. We can’t do any worse than we are now. If they can’t cut it then we need to draft Claiborne in the first round and maybe another DB in the second.

  4. NickinMelbourne Says:

Talib is a joke. Great talent huge headcase. Lets cut our losses and see if we can trade him for any kind of draft pick.

  5. RastaMon Says:

    IR = Idiot Recidivism

  6. Bucfan34 Says:

no, we do not need more of Myron Lewis. He should’ve been cut weeks ago. If he gets reps over Gaitor, I’ll be pissed.

And they need to bring Haynesworth back. His impact on Adrian and Da’Quan has been very positive.

  7. sandbagrudy Says:

I remember this guy doing flips on the field costing the team a 15 yard unsportsmanlike a penalty. He plays swift on the inside makes plays and can play a few downs without getting gassed. He’s not much of a run stopper though

  8. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Who cares is Rah Rah still the coach? If so, Lewis has no chance nor does this team. We are the worst.

  9. RastaMon Says:

Jovan Haye…..I liked his scrappy game back in the day, miniSapp is what I called him….but this is simply a desparate staff not standing up and accepting their collective fate…

  10. Leighroy Says:

(Not counting Rodne) Aqib sadly, is our best player in the secondary, and that REALLY isn’t saying much. He MIGHT be a second stringer on most anyone else’s team.

Jovan Haye…. yawn. Who cares. He’s just a body.

I agree with most, I want to see Black and Gaitor in there getting some reps, bc what is the point of any one else getting them? Myron Lewis, I really don’t care either way. I’ve never seen anything from him when healthy, and that is a rare occurrence in an of itself. Two games isn’t gunna help him, but at least Black and Gaitor have a chance to show something on film and stick beyond this year.

  11. Garv Says:

Well NOW we can rest easy knowing the Buccaneers are doing all they can do to get better.
THIS is the kind of player move I’ve been waiting for.

    Merry Christmas!

  12. BucfaninMI Says:

I’ve had the feeling all season that they don’t always play the best players. Like when they first got Blount, maybe he didn’t know the play book that well, but how hard is it to give the guy the 10-15 times a game, he’s got to know that much. It’s not like Olsen re-invented offense. I’ve said it before, sometimes the answers are that easy! I mean how hard is it to tell a guy the snap count and say when I hand you the ball run between these two guys and go! And Ahmad Black can’t be worse than Jones, at least he is young. Lumpkin should never have started or played in an NFL game!

  13. Pete Dutcher Says:

Has Haynesworth really been playing that bad? I thought he was doing okay, but I also had my eyes covered a lot during the last couple games.

  14. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

LOL…good one Pete. I think Price will be seeing the bench as well due to HIS injury issues.

  15. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Or maybe for Roy Miller to sit. Once again, these type of “disciplinarian” moves are too little too late. They should have happened weeks ago when we were ALREADY out od the playoff picture.

  16. sandbagrudy Says:

That Kid Amobi Okoye that Chicago scooped up from Houston is the real Mini Sapp he fits the Buccaneers scheme.

  17. raphael Says:

thugs, pot heads and losers…..enough already…do you think dungy would put up with these guys…………….clean house !

  18. D-Rome Says:

Does anyone else think Talib kinda looks like Snoop Dogg?

  19. TheProsUseAdvoCare Says:

Haynesworth might not be worth that kind of money, but he is better than any other healthy tackle on our team. We have the cash so might as well keep him and see how he does next year.

Talib needs to stay healthy. He performs well when so. If all goes well with his trial, and he stays out of trouble, it can’t hurt to have if on the team if only for 8 healthy games a year.

  20. thibs5599 Says:

Talib missed 5 games last season and 1 game in 08 and 09, how does that consist of missing SIGNIFICANT ACTION OVER PAST 3 SEASONS. more like two seasons

  21. MTM Says:

Talib is on IR what will the Buc’s do. I can’t wait to see Talib repeatedly on the side line “mean mugging”. Buc’s ownership needs to have a serious plan to fix this team. But it ain’t happening.

  22. K2theSoldier Says:

I wouldn’t mind trying to trade Talib for a 2nd round pick. That’d be pretty cool. He’s a starting caliber cornerback when he’s completely healthy, just a matter of getting him healthy. I think a team would give up a 2nd rounder for a starting cornerback in a pass happy NFL.

  23. admin Says:

    Joe here,

@thibs5599 — You’d have to look at the actual games when Talib was limited or out with hammy issues or other injuries. Over three seasons is completely accurate.

  24. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

With his pending trail date coming up…there is no way in HELL they are going to get ANYTHING for Talib.

  25. K2theSoldier Says:

@Scotty, Most reasonable people and any team that looks into the situation will agree that Talib is going to get off scott-free. The whole trial is a sham.

  26. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

LOL…and his OTHER situations since he has been here?

  27. bucfanjeff Says:

There’s obviously a lot of talk of ‘fire raheem’, so it got me thinking more. If Raheem stays, does that really mean a whole lot more empty seats (noticable)? I’m guessing no.

  28. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

I think he’s seen his last game in a Bucs uniform…my guess is he gets cut in the off season regardless of who the coach is

  29. Patrick Says:

We need to keep Talib here and wait till it plays out. Regardless of what happens to him, we need the top CB in the 1st round to replace Barber. Then get a good CB in free agency to provide talented depth if Talib returns or take over as the 2nd starting CB if Talib goes to jail.

  30. SteveK Says:

The Bucs should trade Talib for a 2nd round pick (only this low bc of his trouble).

If nobody tries to get him, then either lower the asking price or just let his talent rot.

  31. j lynch Says:

he will rehab in prison in texas

  32. SteveK Says:

Can Andrew Freidman pull double duty as both Rays and Bucs GM?

He is the Rockstar GM of Tampa.

Dominick needs to pull his checkbook out next offseason, ano not for scrub signings like: Ward, black, or Trublood.

We got cap room, wish dominick wasnt scared to spend it.

    $EXPECTATIONS$

  33. eric Says:

Morris said Talib is a high “football character” guy.

I guess by implication he isnt so much outside football.

    Pretty good nuance for Rah.

  34. SteveK Says:

Cut Talib, he loathes. Nobody that lays down and puts a lack of effort out there on the field should be allowed to play.

Put some youngsters in the secondary and leave tankard and ronde in there.

  35. ElioT Says:

This is good news! I’m pretty sure that guys on IR can’t travel with the team, so we wont have to look at his clown-a** acting like a dumba** kid on the sidelines.

I used to be a huge Talib supporter but he has proven that he just doesn’t get it and will probably never realize his potential.

No way anybody gives up a 2nd round pick for Aqib. If Texas doesn’t eat this dude’s lunch then Goodell will make an example of him. He makes Tanard look like a model citizen… Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon indictment in the state of Texas? Good luck with that…

Cheer’s to Morris Claiborne in the first round and hopefully a free agent CB to compliment…

  36. ElioT Says:

Wouldn’t mind keeping Ronde for one more year as the nickleback/freestyle CB and for his positive influence for the young guys both on the field and in the locker room. Poor guy just needs some help.

In training camp he talked like he wanted to play for a few more years and was inspired by the youth on the team… Not so sure he’s still thinking that but I bet he’s got more in the tank.

  37. sharkcoasttactical.com Says:

Jovan? What? Lewis gets the reps? What about Ahmad Black? Wait, how does any of this matter? 95 has done a bad job? I’m so confused. Think those retards are going to show up for dead man walking Rahem in the next two games? This organization reminds me of our Government because they constantly make no sense. I heard Rah on 620 talk about Talibs character and how he wants to play. WTF? Is he that clueless? Talib is a gangsta that can ball when he feels like it. He will never reach his potential BECAUSE of his character. Jesus, could the dirtys throw us a bone and give us something positive to talk about?
When Lord? When will you deliver us from this nonsense? Out.

  38. Matt Says:

“And they need to bring Haynesworth back. His impact on Adrian and Da’Quan has been very positive.”

    Oh boy.

  39. raphael Says:

send the lovers raheem and talib packing…

  40. Freeman4President Says:

I hate to say this to those talking about drafting a corner, we likley are going to have a top 5 pick and if Blackmon from OSU is there you have to take him, outside of Luck and Kalil (sp.) he is prob. the most talented player in the draft, Elite talent is what our roster needs.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

I think St Louis will take Blackmon before we’re up. Morris Claiborne may be the best payer in the entire Draft. if he is there at number 5, I’d take him.
