Raheem Gives His Take On Job Security

Hey Coach, you worried about your job after this season if things don’t turn around?
That was part of the final question posed to Raheem Morris at his news conference today. You can watch it here at the end of the video on Buccaneers.com.
Raheem’s initial response was, “I am not an insurance salesman. We coach football.”
Joe’s not 100 percent sure of exactly what Raheem said after that, so Joe’s not going to transcribe the coach’s entire comment. When it comes to a man talking about his livelihood, Joe treads carefully.
However, Raheem’s overall message was clear. The head coach isn’t worried about his job because he’s paid to worry about winning at least five more football games and developing his team. And when the season ends in 32 days, he’ll press on unless he gets a dreaded phone call from Team Glazer.
It’ll be interesting to see if/when a vote of 2012 confidence for Raheem comes from his bosses.

R U kidding? I mean Rah is such a GOOD defensive minded coach that if Rah gets the ax there will be tons of teams ready to ink Rah Rah to a deal – NOT.

@Mr. Lucky…….if Rah was jettisoned after this season he’d get another job…….it’d be probably be going back to a DB’s coach though.

Thanks for that link Joe. I encourage everyone to watch that.
My interpretation: hardly a guy confident that he will be returning. Also, with all of this speculation regarding whether he will be fired, now people like Chip Carter asking him directly in a mid-week conference if Rah is concerned, for the org not to publicly say that he will be returning – speaks volumes.
At a minimum, it indicates that the org isn’t sure yet. The more I watch him the more I feel sorry for him, he wants so badly to be better but doesn’t know how to.

He would probably be a better insurance salesman, I would prefer for him to try to sell me insurance and not coach my Bucs.

Thomas.. The organization nevers comes out publicly one way or the other. Ive never heard them support Dungy or Gruden during any year so them not coming out to support Raheem means nothing. My guess unless we lose 3 of the remaining 5 he will return for one more year. If that’s the case Dominic deserves to go as well if not more so. His plan of building thru the draft has been a complete failure. His bad contracts to Clayton and Black are also hanging over his head. Letting others go without a true replacement has also been a big issue.

Brad: you are correct that Dom has made some mistakes with spending $ on free agents: Black, Clayton, Ward, Crowell, Leftwich, Nugent (all low demand free agents but free agents nonetheless) etc wasted tens of millions. Fifty million on Gmc is also a huge monetary mistake.
But the plan to rebuild through the draft without supplementing with higher priced / less risky free agents is not Dom’s plan, that was the plan forced upon him by ownership.
Further, the talent on this roster is not perfect and needs to be supplemented, but it is better than 0-5, 1-6 and 4-7, and it is sufficient to make the playoffs is coached and prepared properly.
The failure of this team is horrible preparation, no discipline and no leadership – all out of Dom’s jurisdiction.

Let the rest of this year play out…were we feeling this way week 6? Idk…let it ride for the rest of the year.
Despite overwhelming “Fire Raheem” rants, I believe he should get one more year. Free’s had about 2 years starting experience and it’s natural to have a team this young stumble at some point. We get so hyped on potential that we miss out on reality as far as production goes. Realizing that the majority of players were in a classroom 2-3 years ago is important for evaluation. Firing Raheem this early in the process would do more harm than good.
Ironic though that another Panther game could play a large role in determining the Bucs’ coaching future.

Wow, the Bucs never made the playoffs while I was in high school. Really sucks that when I always talked football with my friends, I could never have fun.
Just wish they could quit letting us down for once.

Raheem needs to go’now’, not at the end of the year! That would give us a chance to negociate with a “qualified” coach before the end of the year. Just use an interum coach to finish out the year. Wouldn’t matter who.

He’s as good as gone. Glazer’s are losing millions each game, being well short of sellouts.
If you combine all of the money they lost from empty seats this year, then they could’ve paid for a top $ coach.

Morris isn’t going anywhere but a few of the assistant coaches are probably history. I hate to get a new OC because it’s always a setback until the new system is up and running but I don’t see how it can get much worse than it is right now. It’s certainly not all Olson’s fault as execution has been terrible but his offense has been very predictable. We either need a new LB coach or new LB’s and I vote for…..BOTH. Dom needs to hire a
DC and just let Morris deal with the personalities. If things don’t straighten out with the changes then I’ll get on board with firing Morris. I’m not one of the idiots who think we should have been in the playoffs this year with the youngest team in the NFL and our schedule but I did expect improvement on both sides of the ball and I don’t see it. It’s up to Dom and Morris to fix it and if that means getting all new staff, fine. If they don’t get it fixed with changes then it’s on them.
