Lumpkin Vs. Blount Is No Contest

November 27th, 2011

Joe never had a doubt, but Joe at least hopes now the Bucs will acknowledge the obvious and let LeGarrette Blount be the primary back on third down and in the four-minute and two-minute offenses.

To continue to take your most dangerous offensive weapon off the field is a crime against the franchise. It makes Joe want to punch the nearest wall.

Blount has proven himself to be more valuable than Kregg Lumpkin on third down. He caught three balls today for big yardage, and Joe’s really not seeing Blount being a liability in those scenarios.

If nothing else, the Bucs’ hopes for the playoffs have evaporated. They’re done. So why not let Blount learn and grow in the fire over the next five games.

Next week against the sad Carolina defense is the perfect time to get it going.

    @JOE

HEY WHAT’S THE NUMBER TO YOUR FRIEND’S SHOW? I WANT TO CALL IN.

  2. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Totally agree Joe. Unleash the beast next week. No excuse not to at this point.

I would also give Diles, Watson, Hayward & Cutrera some reps at LB the rest of the way to evaluate what we have. I don’t see Black or Hayes coming back next year (I hope). There’s no way this current starting LB group, especially the OLB’s, can play any worse. Impossible.

  3. Joe Says:

    FLBoyInDallas:

Adam Hayward has had plenty of playing time after both Geno Hayes and Quincy Black have been benched. The Bucs already have a read on what he can do. Hint: Quincy Black and Geno Hayes are still starting.

    Trent Richardson !

  6. Patrick Says:

@Joe……what are you talking about? Your friend seems to be rather optimistic. He keeps saying “calm down, it’s gonna be alright” over and over again. Idk, am I listening to the right show?

  7. Patrick Says:

    Thank you Joe.

  8. BucfaninMI Says:

Carolina’s defense will suddenly ” show up” and have their best game of the season. That will help them get back on track just enough to not finish last!

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Continuing to take Blount out on third downs for Lumpkin is an absolute joke. Not only is it stupid because Blount is 100 times better, it’s also stupid because it tells teh defense EXACTLY what we are going to do. 3rd and 2, Lumpkin is in the game, we are throwing. 1st and 10 in the hurry up offense, Blount is in the game, we are running Blount. We are making the job too easy for the defense. He caught 2 passes for big yardage on 2 attempts. Why only 2 is my big question? What are we saving him for? I’m not knowledgeable enough about football to truly criticize play calling, but I am smart enough to know that you keep your best players on the field on third down. I’m very concerned when I am smarter than our OC.

Don’t count on these clowns (coaches) grasping the obvious. Stats are for losers.

BLOUNTFORCETRAUMA – that is all – now back to regularly scheduled programming

  12. gotbbucs Says:

how many weeks now has this been the case and they havent changed yet. morris and olson have no feel for the game and are awful with situational football, which is funny because of how much morris harps about it.

  13. Blubber Price Says:

3 passes caught , one which he fumbled and the Titans recovered.

A clear sign he is now a 3rd down back. LOL

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Chris Johnson fumbled too, as did about 3 other Titans. Not to mention that he took about 4 guys for a 10 yard ride. He also took another one for 35 yards.

  15. Blubber Price Says:

Did the 3 other Titans fumble twice ??

  16. Matt Says:

@blubber Yeah, and he got over 50 yards on those three catches. Lumplin would have had 8.

  17. csidedave Says:

Very true Joe have no idea what they are trying to do. Most of the time Lumpkin is in they are dumping the ball off to him anyway. The next time he breaks a tackle or makes a guy miss will be the first time. Not picking up that last first down is inexcusable.

  18. Hawaiian Buc Says:

How many times has he fumbled total this year? If that’s the best you got to trash one of our best players, then you really are a pathetic little b!tch.

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Another game over 100 yards, and another averaging over 5 yards a carry – on an offense that can’t move the ball or score any points.

  20. Tom Says:

    @ Hawaiian Buc:

    Right on!

  21. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I would like to correct myself on one thing. We can move the ball. That is, until the holding call pushes us back 10 yards, followed by a dead ball penalty that almost always follows. After that, it’s Lumkin time!!!

  22. Blubber Price Says:

So , two fumbles … and how’d Blount do in pass protection ?? Oh that’s right , he didn’t , because he has no clue who he’s supposed to block and can’t be trusted to do so.

How about instead of comparing him to Lumpkin the bum , we hold Mark Dummynik accountable for not bringing in a REAL 3rd down back like Darren Sproles….oh sorry , that would make too much sense , and Mark has a “plan”.

    Carry on , morons

  23. Blubber Price Says:

I’m not trashing Blount , I’m just not stupid enough to think he is or ever will be a good 3rd down option.

Relax and get a clue , homer. Then thank your hero Dummynik for ignoring the issue this offseason, instead of blaming Lumpkin, who shouldn’t have any greater responsibility than to occupy a spot on our practice squad if our GM did his job…

  24. Patrick Says:

    @Blubber Price

Agree. No excuse at all for how the running back situation has turned out. Blount is your only back, you let Cadillac go, and you OBVIOUSLY need to get someone! Lumpkin being our #2 back and him even being on the roster is just another cheap move by this team. He’s played just like I expected. Just like 99% of the other scrap heap nobody players do.

  25. Blubber Price Says:

    Thanks Patrick.

Nice to see I’m not the only sane person on this freakin board that can actually see the forest for the trees…

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

The problem is not that he’s not an option on third down. He’s just never given a chance. The few opportunities he has had a chance, he’s produced. The problem is that NO running back can play every down, and he’s all we have. Did you see that Chris Johnson came out many times, and they actually ran the ball with another back (what a concept)? He can’t play on every down, not in today’s NFL. There isn’t one team that does that anymore. That is a mistake on Dominik, but doesn’t mean that Blount is not a good third down option. The fact that you take so much of your time trying to prove this continues to prove the point that you are nothing but a whiny little b!tch.

How exactly do you know he doesn’t know who to block? Are you in practice every day? You don’t know sh!t. You are just another ignorant piece of blubber that thinks he’s Mr. Football, yet couldn’t get a job coaching a girls flag football team.

  27. Jrock Says:

They wanted Bradford to spell Blount and that didn’t work out. I can’t imagine how he could have been worse than Lumpkin, but at this point the only way they go out and sign someone will be because injury forces them to (see Albert Haynesworth).

I think Blount can do 3rd down back, but he’s got to have someone who can give him a rest for a series!

  28. eric Says:

Wish i could coach a girls flag football team.

  29. passthebuc Says:

2 years ago the comments read like this.
“we have so many holes, where do we start”

    Today’s comments should read,
“we have so many holes, where do we start”

2 years ago we did not know what we had in our coaching staff, today we do.
“we have so many holes, where do we start”

  30. CC Says:

If the Bucs would reverse their play calling. Run Blount 30 times and let Freeman throw 20 times we win.I don’t give a crap if its first and 25. The way Blount was running give him the damn ball ass clowns. Its a better option to run the clock and gain some yards than let our below average QB throw 3 straight times for no yards.

  31. CC Says:

Oh yah I think thats when Freeman threw an interception on a horrible throw.

  32. Blubber Price Says:

Even superstar running backs rarely get over 30 carries in this league anymore. Get a clue. Not only will the back survive the punishment , but it’s a passing league , and if you don’t have a threat of pass you get 8 in the box and run blitzed every down – game over.
