Report: Free Agency Splash Guaranteed For 2012

November 17th, 2011
“Now that’s a bold plan”

Step aside, Nostradamus, Scott Reynolds is in the house.

Per a report on PewterReport.com, the lead writer of the online outfit says he’s 100 percent sure the Bucs will open the team checkbook in 2012 and start wining and dining the big names when the free agency bell sounds in March.

“… Mark down these words. This team will be an active player in free agency next year,” Reynolds said on something called Pewter Report Radio. “The plan, as I’ve come to understand it from talking to several people inside the building, is to have three draft classes to acquire talent and depth that has experience. Then, I believe next year, you will see this team go out and get some big-time free agents at key positions, some we know about and some yet to be defined. But there will be the free agency splash coming next year. I can guarantee you that.”

Hmm, well, Joe has marked it down, as Reynolds’ requested. But Joe’s not sure he’s buying this one. Though given the glaring liabilities in the Bucs’ linebacking corps and the desperate need for another running back, among other needs, Joe’s not seeing how the Bucs can draft their way into the coveted lasting contender status next season.

Isn’t this the year that the Bucs are mandated to get to the cap floor the NFL set last year in their labor negotiations? So with a gun to their head yes the Glazers will spend some money. Oh boy I am excited. Hopefully Dom will get us another running back and a few decent wide receivers for Josh with a gun to his head mind you. The Glazers clinging on to their cash until they have to give it up.

  2. Dew Says:

It’s either that or I swear I’m canceling my season tickets. This is a lost year IMO because Dom left us with so few playmakers.

  3. admin Says:

    Joe here,

@Nick — The cash minimum per team reportedly starts in 2013, not next season. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/30/per-team-spending-minimum-doesnt-apply-until-2013/

  4. Matt Says:

I can only imagine how much better this offense would have been if we had brought in a couple of moderate free agents such as Leach at FB and Free at RT.

And, of course, Joseph at CB.

    Oh, what could have been.

  5. Bobby Says:

what a pile of crap, if this is there new approach, then this team needs a new approach, i think it may just be a reach from this regime to save there job, we are working on our plan, and we will need another three to four years for everything will work it self out. Bull crap, time to retool this aministration, time to clean house and start over, Dom has not showed any idea other than a nice punter, to now anything about talent, time to go, Does that mean Shelton quarles will actually be able to do his job, with pro personnel, or is this just another ruse from this guys, see you later dom and take raheem with you. Blow it all up!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. kappa08 Says:

too bad this was a GREAT year to get good young veterans…sorry Bucs but the excuses are laughable….I do believe in building through the draft but not friggan cold…should have kept Ruud so our Mike can witness the calls and Cadillac so Blount can get another year of help they were cheap mentors….

  7. Meh Says:

Oh good lord get that Cain picture out of here before him and Haynesworth go grabbing some boobs together.

  8. stimpy Says:

    @Matt

I dont think it would have done anything. Our coaching staff cant adjust or coach.

  9. aldo Says:

i just have two names on my mind:

    1. Matt Forte (not so probable, chicago can tag him)
    2. Desean Jackson (i think he is done in philly, and that is the speed we need)

  10. Matt Says:

@stimpy Having a fullback and a right tackle who can actually block definitely would have made it easier to run. If we could run, we might stop throwing the ball 40 times a game.

But who knows, probably still would be giving up 450 yards and 30 points a game.

  11. Garv Says:

I’m looking for some wise spending for key players this winter.
    It had BETTER happen.

  12. Anthony Says:

    Mario Williams/Mike Wallace

  13. Meh Says:

    My plan

Free agents: Desean Jackson and Laron Landry

    Draft:
    1. Kirpatrick or Claiborne
    2. LaMichael James (we aren’t getting forte, sorry)
    3. Best linebacker left

We could also grab Burfict in the first and take the best corner left in the third. Either way.

And suck up the oline, te, and 2nd corner/linebacker needs for the next year.

  14. Meh Says:

Matt, regarding RT (trueblood). He’s a pretty decent run blocker. It is his pass blocking and his penalties that are atrocious (really, really bad). We should be running a LOT more behind Joseph and Trueblood. That’s why they’re there, and they aren’t bad at that.

  15. thibs5599 Says:

I think we def will hit free agency this year, its almost like we have to if these coaches want to stick around, that is if they make it out of this season.

There is no chance we get Mario Williams or Mike Wallace no way their teams are letting them go.

Desean Jackson I think is a real possibility, you dont sit a star wideout an entire game for missing a special teams meeting, maybe sit him a quarter or don’t play him on special teams but he clearly is causing a distraction with not getting paid and he does deserve it, i and would fit in great here in tampa. I just hope this team does more than field a few phone calls to big name free agents and not act that interested ala CB Joseph for the texans.

As for the draft i think its time to shake some things up. Where are these big physical linebackers that were suppose to have. I like foster we all saw him make that nice third down stop against the saints a few weeks ago and the guy can definitely hit. But lets get some hybrid players on this defense. some guys who can rush the passer as well as cover and stop the run. Look at guys like bert reed for the texans i wanted him so bad last year and the dude is lighting it up. look at suggs on the ravens he does everything drops back into coverage pass rushes you name it he does it.

    upshaw from alabama
    monte tio from notre dame
    sean spence from miami
lets get some guys that can hit and we can worry about coverage linebackers later on

  16. thomas 2.2 Says:

Please let the first free agent be either: Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher.

That will make this team IMMEDIATELY better. The rest is just gravy.

Rah would coach the 72′ Dolphins to a 3rd place division finish, rah would turn the Packers into the Vikings, he could make the Colts with Manning be the Colts without Manning. Rah is likd a reverse-coach, instead of taking athletes and making them individually and collectively better – he causes the opposite effect.

In fact, I think that he might be a mole sent here by the Falcons or Saints to make a good team play awful.

  17. thomas 2.2 Says:

As for the draft, I think that we need to go D Line, especially D Tackle. Albert is a 10 year vet and Price needs someone productive next to him.

  18. K2theSoldier Says:

Hey Thomas, Rah coached a team to 10 wins. You’re an idiot. Have a nice day.

  19. K2theSoldier Says:

LOL THOMAS THINKS WE NEED TO DRAFT D LINE FIRST HAHAHAHAHA

Dude, quit it with these jokes, I’m going to have a heart attack reading these stupid posts of yours.

  20. MTD Says:

    9-9-9

  21. canada buc fan Says:

If we draft D line again next year then Dom is to d linemen as Matt Millen is to Wide receivers. Not going to happen until at least round 4. As far as D-jax goes I don’t see that happening either, Dom has stated he like big physical receivers. If we do look at free agents, and thats a big if (i don’t care what any one is guaranteeing) I think they will all be 2nd tier guys not necessarily, I would love someone like a Jordy Nelson I’m not sure if he will be a F.A or not and he may love the chance to be a bigger part of an offence and him and Josh played together back in Kansas.

  22. canada buc fan Says:

sorry I got side tracked in my last response I meant to say not necessarily the guys we hear about all the time.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t care how we get it, but we need speed, speed, and more speed.

  24. FreemanBomb5 Says:

Jordy is signed for like 3 or 4 years 14.5 million. I owned in fantasy and kept up with his contract status

  25. canada buc fan Says:

Thanks FreemanBomb5 I knew he was around his 4th year so i was just hoping it was around contract time for him.

  26. Captain Stagger Says:

The LB quality is greater in the draft than in FA. Conversley the FA pool at corner is deep.

    Draft: Te’o, James, Wright
    FA: Grimes/Rodgers, Nicks

Covers LB, Cb, OL, Speed in the Backfield, and Speed on the outside.

We don’t need Diva Jackson on this team, I’d rather take my shot with Kendal Wright.
