Quincy Black Continues To Struggle

Look, every man is human, short of Albert Pujols. But even the great Cardinals slugger will get fooled and have a strikeout once a month or so.
Same with Aaron Rodgers. Dude will have an incompletion from time to time.
So too are front office types human. Take Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik for example.
Whether it was loyalty or something Dominik saw in Quincy Black, perhaps maybe a high ceiling, just about every Bucs fan raised an eyebrow that Dominik re-signed Black, handing the Bucs linebacker a five-year, $29 million contract. The deal contains $11.5 million guaranteed.
To date, Black has played on the level of someone earning the league-minimum.
In what may turn out to be the defensive equivalent of Michael Clayton’s re-signing, Black has far too often been invisible on the field. In the second half today there was a good reason why fans couldn’t see him on the field: he was replaced by Geno Hayes.
There was no announcement made by Buccaneers staffers that Black was injured, as is often the case when someone is dinged up and has to leave the game.
This is not the first time this season that Black was benched for subpar play, though the first time, against Minnesota, Black was less than 100 percent.
Black did have a tackle for a loss today, to his credit.
It has always puzzled Joe why Black was handed a starting job in 2009. Joe can count on one hand the number of big plays Black has made in 42 games. Often, one needs two hands to count the number of splash plays a good linebacker makes in one game, much less 41.
Simply put, if the Bucs rush defense is ever going to improve, Black must simply play better.

I was begging the Bucs to sign one or two veteran LB’s in the offseason (my preference was Tulloch, who has played at a very high level for the Lions). Most Bucs fans could see this coming a mile away. Our LB corps is the weakest unit on this team by far. Besides Foster and sometimes Watson, this unit absolutely sucks. Bad.
From some of the anonymously sourced comments I’ve read on PR and other places this year, it seems to me that it was Raheem who stood on the table for both Clayton and Black to get contract extensions. Dominik, I believe, agreed only to a minor degree but went with his coach’s strong desire on those two guys. I would be money that is how it played out and until I see irrefutable proof to the contrary I’m going to stick with that assessment.
From what I understand, Raheem has only hit one home run with all the players he’s stood on the table for: Josh Freeman. Other than that, he seems to have a horrible eye for talent. Raheem needs to be disregarded the rest of the way on personnel decisions and also if this team doesn’t drastically improve in the remaining 7 games he needs to be replaced at the end of the season.
Preferable with Jeff Fisher. Period.

I would love to have a coach of Fisher’s stature here to clean house and change the culture of this lockeroom. It’s obvious that these players are not responding to what the coaching staff is selling. I am glad we are not bickering as fans because now it’s obvious we all are seeing and we all FINALLY agree that change is coming.

It is common knowledge that rah and black are very very close friends. I have heard that the black signing was resisted by some but rah lobbied hard hor his bud. Dom may have ordered rah to pull him and yes Dom communicates with rah during games on personnel issues.
If I recall correctly the black contract did not have a big penalty if black is cut after year 1.

Jeff fisher would be awesome here. Albert Would love it. The players would have to get used to working hard at practice and having a boss but the results would improve almost immediately.

His play this season has to make you wonder if last season was a fluke. Freeman has looked like he was back at K-State. I keep hearing excuses, but it’s hard to cover for poor decision making and bad accuracy.

Freemans going to be ok. We have the talent on this team minus a couple player. The coaches on the other hand flat out suck. I can’t understand why the game plan is the same every week, and every week we get the same crappy results just to do it again the next week its insane. But, whatever. GOOO YUCS!!!

Now don’t freak out, because I know this might’ve sounded inconceivable even one or two games ago, and still might to most fans, but if Freeman in the next two to four games continues to have the issues he’s had all season, would you guys like to see JJ get a chance to play? Maybe give him the last three or four games of the season, not only to see if what he brings can shake things up and ignite this offense a little bit but also to give him confidence that he really does have a significant role to play here and possibly encourage him to re-up with the Bucs after the season? It may be crazy…but not too crazy in my opinion.

Surely u jest Joe! The Bucs are so toataly unprepared it’s not funny! To single out the defeat on one player is laughable. Our coach stood there today just like Sundays past like a deer in headlights. There are no answers with this coach. He is lost! Regardless of how much you are in his corner it isn’t going to change the fact that Coach Morris is a marginal position coach at best.

Dominic needs to take this loss equally with Morris and Olson. His bad contracts, see above, letting good players go with no replacement, see Caddy, and his hardheadedness to ignore free agency, see entire defense. His plan just is not working. I bought into like most after last year but it’s clear we have players starting on this team that are not ready. Forcing players to play before their ready contributes to injuries as well. The wheels are falling off fast and the inexperience at every level of this organization is showing its ugly head. I would take Fisher in a heart beat.

this is a worse team overall than our 3-13 team of 2009. that team was at least competitive and seemed to care. i actually feel bad for haynesworth. he and clayborn appeared to be the only guys still trying at the end.

What’s your source to this “common knowledge”, and who have you “heard” this from? You can’t just go around making statements without any sources. You are nothing more than the National Enquirer of Buc knowledge. You know nothing about nothing. You have no inside knowledge of anything. I bet you can’t even scrape together 10 facebook friends. Besides, last I checked, Raheem doesn’t deal with contract negotiations. That would be Dominik. Again, blame Raheem for our failure this season all you want. However, don’t make stuff up to pile on. This is why I will NEVER respect you or your opinion.

Blubber- damn right ask me! I bitched all preseason that Hayes and Black sucked, and we needed to replace them. I bitched all preseason that our ” Team Strenght” secondary sucked, and we needed to sign a good CB.
I also predicted 8-8 this year, while dozens of posters here cried that Talib, Black and Hayes are “Elite” players, and we’d improve on last years 10-6.
Yeah, ask me. Looks like I’m spot on again! Unless someone still wants me to believe Talib and Black are “elite”

Have to give you credit Captain Tim, you were right about both last year and this year.
But down deep i have to think you would be pleased to see the Chin or Jeff Fisher run through the tunnel on opening day next year.
Ill bet most sheep would, even if they wont admit it.
Can you imagine the thermonuclear meltdown from Cowher if his defesne played the keystone cop tackling routine? That in itself would be worth the price of admission.

Which show? Funny how Joe or nobody else ever wrote about it, don’t you think? I don’t believe you, not for one second. I listen to a ton of sports radio and have NEVER heard one discuss friendships. Maybe you are confusing sports shows with the gossip shows. Again, give me a show name, which shouldn’t be a problem, since it was discussed “at nauseum”. But know this, I will research what you say. I will call in to the station myself just to catch you in a lie. My money is on you not responding.

I feel pretty confident I already know the answer, but is there any truth to Thomas’s accusation? I find it hard to believe, or more accurately impossible to believe. I think it is a straight up lie, and he needs to be called on it. Just like you get upset when people lie about you, he shouldn’t be allowed to lie about this. He shouldn’t be allowed to just spout off crap to prove his point.

Joe has no knowledge of this. As for it being discussed “ad nauseum” on sports radio this offseason, Joe sure didn’t hear it. It’s safe to assume, though, that Raheem was all in favor of bringing back Black given how he’s talked about Black in the past.

Being in favor of bringing someone back is a far cry from being close friends. He is claiming it is “common knowledge”, yet no one else has ever mentioned it. The reason, as we all know, is because it is a 100% lie. that really pisses me off, because there is no need for it. Raheem is getting his criticism (rightfully so), but to just make things up is borderline slander.
