Raheem Takes All The Blame

The Bucs’ head coach put the loss today squarely on his shoulders.
Joe was going to type up a bunch of Raheem’s postgame quotes, but there’s reallly not much exciting in there. Simply, Raheem said he didn’t get his team ready in practice last week and didn’t get it done.
Raheem said the Bucs were “outplayed and outphysicaled.” He also said he’s glad to have the opportunity to get things right against the mighty Green Bay Packers.
Of course, Raheem isn’t on the field whiffing on tackles, playing with questionable effort at times, and looking lost on offense.
Joe hopes Raheem’s young team appreciates him shouldering the blame for them.

We are the 2011 verson of the 2010 SF 49ers. I don’t think we will see any change in the team until Raheem is let go and they get another coach in here. Unfortunately, I don’t see ANY prospects out there right now. We are stuck.

I only see two realistic options for this Bucs team to have a chance to dramatically improve for next season:
1) Keep Raheem as HC as the players play extremely hard for him and don’t quit, plus he has some good instincts for motivation and general decision making. However, he should NOT be the DC for this team. Hire a talented DC who will have some autonomy so that Raheem cannot interfere. Fire Olson and hire an upgrade at the OC position.
or
2) Fire Raheem and Olson, both. Hire a talented HC such as Jeff Fisher and let him bring in his own OC and DC and most of his own position coaches. Keep Dominik as he does have a good eye for talent and public relations.
If one of the two options above doesn’t happen, at a minimum, then I don’t see this team ever progressing. Just like Scotty said, above, they remind me of the Singletary-led 49ers somewhat and that’s a horrible comparison. Dramatic change is needed.

I’m really not trying to excuse Raheem, but our offense is making our defense look really bad. I know I’m not the only one to feel that virtually every single offensive possession is going to be a 3 & out. I swear we are averaging less than 5 first downs in the first half (maybe more like 2 or 3). Add that to the fact that our defense isn’t very good to begin with, and of course the other team is going to put up big numbers. Does our defense even have time to go to the sideline and sit down? I swear I’ve never seen ANY team have this many 3 & outs. I don’t care if we go out and sign Randy freaking Moss, we need something on offense. Our defense is not going to carry us, so it would be nice to at least have the ability to score some points.

Fisher would be GREAT! I didnt see ANYONE playing hard for the Bucs today. Again, Raheem admitted today he didn’t do a good job at coaching.

The first play of the game rahs defense gives up a 80 yard easy td. Start down 6-0. The offense has a nice drive stalled by penalties.
The texans get the ball back and dominate the clock. Very soon its 16-0 and late in the first half and you are in 2 minute o.
The defense puts the offense behind which makes the offense more predictable. Why can you sheep not see this? Our offense is ranked in the top half of yardage stats – they move the ball fine just stall due to penalties / poor coaching. The defense is at the bottom of the league – its all rahs fault.

First of all Thomas, you calling anyone a fool is hilarious. I know you are enjoying this loss, but get off your high horse thinking that you have been right all along. Simply not the case.
As for the nice drive, hardly. They had one big play to Mike Williams. That’s pretty much it. So I guess by our standards, yes, one first down and a punt is a pretty good drive (I mean, we did get a shade past midfield). However, by normal standards that is not a nice drive genius. I would still love an explanation as to why Talib didn’t get that INT, which cost us 3 points (so I still see the score as 34-9, lol). You also fail to mention drive after drive after drive of 3 and outs after that. Besides, when a team is down 16-0, most teams can at least start picking up a few first downs. Not us, not this year. I believe we had 2 first downs by halftime. But I guess in your eyes, we were moving the ball well, right?
Look, Raheem deserves probably a majority of the blame. I’m not even arguing that. He should, and will be held accountable. However, by that same token, the offense (its playcalling and execution) must be held accountable as well. That falls primarily (though not completely) on Olsen and the players. You have repeatedly said (last year) that Raheem deserves no credit for Freeman’s success last year. However, why is it that you are so quick to give him the blame this year when Freeman is struggling? You can’t have it both ways.

You really make yourself sound stupid by giving ALL the blame to anyone. I expect Raheem to say it, but for you to say it is stupid (because it’s not true). No coach, player, GM, or owner deserves ALL of the blame for any loss. There are so many elements to building a football team and competing, and no one person can turn around or tear down a team. I truly hope you are smart enough to understand that. There are so many different elements to our failure this year, and you are over-simplifying it by blaming it all on one man. But then again, it’s exactly what I would expect from a little boy like you.

The offense has performed poorly in 2 areas: 1) red zone and 2) penalties.
Every other problem is related to those other 2 areas. I agree that those problems are not minor but to say that they dont move the ball well is flat out FALSE.
Today, when they got WAY behind the necessarily 1 dimensional offense struggled against the leagues top rated defense. However, the porous defense that had given up (except for Ronde, Price, Foster) made our offense 1 dimensional.
The problem Hawaiian is that every week the opponent coaches concoct a game plan that exploit our weaknesses and they get a lead. Our staff is unable to do that. Sometimes, Free overcomes the long odds and deficits and pulls out a win. Usually, the lead is too big and we lose close at the end. Recently, we get blown out bc Free is out of heroics and out team is unprepared and undisciplined. It is so obvious, just embrace it. Rah should be coaching d backs at the Univ of Hawaii.

They’re 4-5. They’ll win 7 or 8 like most people pegged them with this roster. Get a clue. … I’ll be with you if they fall apart completely, but until then you’re a pain in the ass.

You mean to tell me this same coaching staff was 10-6 with the same youngest team in the nfl and nominated for coach of the year. we are sitting here wondering what happened here’s what happened 2 starting second year wrs (no off season) starting second year running back (no off season) starting rookie te (no off season) starting rookie de (no off season) 2 second year dt’s (no off season) rookie mlb (no offseason). Most of our key positions are YOUNG. The other young teams in the league are not young in key starting positions and with the slim difference in talent the only thing left is experience. we have little to none and this has finally caught up with us.

Really? How many first downs do we average in the first half? I don’t know, but I’d be willing to bet it is less than 5. Wanna take that bet? So yes, we don’t move the ball well. Maybe when we are down 4 scores we do, but other than that, no.

I fail to see why you feel the need to pin all the blame on Morris, ignoring the fact that there are others to blame as well. Others are obviously not doing a good job either, and there is not one player or coach that should not be held responsible for that miserable excuse for a product that took the field today.

They FIRED both our O and D Line Coaches from last year.

MTD : they have been spanked in 4 of their last 5 – that is “falling apart.”
The worst part is that they are not even competitive. I am surprised that anyone would make excuses for this horrible coaching.

Buctone: you are clueless and new so you are excused. Go back and review the qb’s they faced last year to go 10-6: Troy smith, Jake delhomme, Clausen, Moore, whitehurst, max hall etc. All scrub backup qb’s now gone.
With that you finished 3rd in the div and no playoffs – you didn’t make any history.
Every team has the same set of conditions, the difference is that the teams we play have qualified coaches.

Hawaiian: Morris gets the blame bc the lack of discipline, complete and total lack of preparation, defense that lacks direction, coordination and passionnare the reason why we have become not competitive in 4 of our last 5 games.
Those are problems are the respons. Of the HC. The main problem the offense has is that if they dont get the ball first or score on their first drive – they are down 7-0 bc are defense is so bad. Rah had chances in the last 2 games to get points early and like an idiot went for it in unfavorable situations.
This guy makes horrible decisions. How can he with a straight face praise and play Black and sit Geno? If I were a player I would call shenanigans too.

I’m very patient so I gave Raheem 2 1/2 years of unconditional support while at the same time watching him closely to see what kind of coach he would prove to be. I have officially turned from a Raheem supporter to a “let’s move on from Raheem” kind of guy. This season, and especially the stretch of games from London onward, has convinced me, finally, after watching him for a long time, that he is just not the guy to take the Bucs to the next level…much less the two or three more levels they need to go in order to consistently compete for a playoff spot.
I hate to say this, but with regard to Raheem I am now pretty much in agreement with the nemesis of all Bucs fans: Thomas 2.2. Sucks to admit, but it’s true nonetheless. Yes, I have gone over to the other side when it comes to Raheem and Olson (but not the Glazers or Dominik).
It is painfully obvious that Raheem is just not capable of heading an organization as complex and demanding as an NFL team. He gave it his best shot (and still is, I think). However, it’s clear that he’s just not even average head coach material. He’s below average. I like his personality and his mental approach, but it’s time to move on after 2011.
I’m officially on the Jeff Fisher watch the remainder of the season.

sugar coat it all you want, but this kind of performance in the third year of a rebuilding plan, mainy focused on defense, (with an allegedly defensive minded coach) is just plain pitiful.
And its been pretty consistently pitiful all season.

I think if Morris really wants to remain a head coach he has to bring in a DC and just be a head coach. It’s very difficult to wear two hats and have room on your head for both. I really think we need a new offensive coordinator too. I don’t blame Olson for the lack of execution but you have to be able to dial up some plays to get this team out of the gates quicker and he just hasn’t shown the ability to catch the other team off guard. This team is regressing and it’s hard to see a team that I thought was just a few pieces away from being dominant slide down the hill so quickly. They should be embarassed as professional athletes. The effort level was horrible. When the team can’t handle the basic fundamentals like tackling, it’s time to stop being a players coach and start to be a coach who demands that his players earn their damn money or find somwone who will. By the way, like the way Haynesworth played today. I expect him to only get better.

I appreciate the honesty FLboy. I can sense that a consensus has been achieved.
We cannot afford to keep Rah beyond this year. It is not hate to want your team to have qualified leadership. I believe that this team is real head coach and a few veteran pieces away from being playoff caliber.
The bright spot: we dominated free agency this year by acquiring our most valuable player by far. Koenen.

@Jake — Your words above about Joe making excuses for Raheem are ridiculous. Perhaps you didn’t even read this post. Nobody, even Raheem, thinks there’s a reasonable “excuse.” Minus Earnest Graham, this is the entire first-team offense on the field today. The run defense is historically dreadful, which Joe wrote about last Sunday night. They’ve gone from winners to losers. It is what it is, but a season is 16 games. Raheem has to right the ship. They need to at least play well next week.

Buctone: you made that record up. They are not the youngest team since the merger to win 10 games. They were the only team to start 10 rookies and win 10 games – that is very different because only a few teams have had to start 10 rookies. Also, it means nothing bc of the horrible qbs they fortuitously drew.
Inexperience is why the team is terrible, just not the players inexperience, it is the head coach’s inexperience, ineptitude and indefensible inadequacies that are responsible.

I read an article somewhere that mentioned Rob Ryan could be moving into the HC carousel….. I don’t know if he would be as successful at HC as his brother has been but he would probably make for a very interesting HC for the Bucs!
He couldn’t be much worse than the current one!
