Pointing A Finger At Mark Dominik
November 8th, 2011Yesterday in his monologue discussing the Bucs’ depressing loss to the Saints, Shaun King, who co-hosts the “too-Jewish” sounding King David Show along with Toby David, heard on WQYK-AM 1010, laid the blame for the loss at the feet of two individuals.
King, who is only one of three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to an NFC title game, said Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman was to blame for the loss, as well as Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik.
Being a former NFL quarterback, he had some very interesting observations on what ails Freeman. But King saved most of his wrath for Dominik, who King believes has failed to stock the Bucs roster with requisite talent to win in the NFL, and lashed out at the third-year Bucs general manager.
Dominik expects Morris “to make lemonade but he doesn’t have any lemons or sugar,” King railed about Dominik.
The entire monologue can be heard by clicking on the little button below.

Agreed.
No explosive playmakers on either side of the ball.
No veteran leadership.
No proven depth.
Overpaying average players.
I mean, outside of Penn and T Jack what players do we have that are currently in the top 5 at their position? Top 10?
Asking Raheem to win with a young and inexperienced team three years in a row was asking too much.
November 8th, 2011 at 11:19 am
how can mark do any better when the owners dont let him spend any money
November 8th, 2011 at 11:19 am
King is a complete joke. Freeman was to blame for the loss? The guy was by no means dominant, but he did have a 70%+ completion rate (7+ YPA), over a 100 QB rating, and threw for nearly 300 yards…Our defense can’t stop the run and we commit too many penalties, that’s what it comes down to.
November 8th, 2011 at 11:22 am
Gruden didn’t have any sugar on offensive and he was able to make it work with garbage
November 8th, 2011 at 11:28 am
Or, SHAUN, maybe Rah can’t make lemonade even when given lemons and sugar!
November 8th, 2011 at 11:28 am
Gruden didn’t have a defense ranked nearly last in every meaningful category.
November 8th, 2011 at 11:37 am
Bucs4life:
Did you listen to the audio where King explains why he blames Freeman?
November 8th, 2011 at 11:38 am
Gruden didn’t have any sugar on offensive and he was able to make it work with garbage
=========
Gruden made his own lemonade.

Riiiight. So far, althought the jury is far from out, Mark D MAY have had the best trio of drafts the Bucs have seen in 14+ years.
They have to grow, some have to develop. We all know they need some more talent, but they are on target with some very talented players.
They can definately make the playoffs this eyar, but they are realistically 2 years away from being an elite team
November 8th, 2011 at 11:51 am
Please stop saying King led us to an nfc champ game! He was a joke!!!
November 8th, 2011 at 11:54 am
mike:
Who was the starting quarterback in the latter half of the 1999 season? [Hint: It wasn’t Trent Dilfer.]
November 8th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
with that defense in 1999.. Crystal Chandilier (Chris Chandler) could have won a super bowl with the Bucs..
November 8th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
God Bless Shaun King, who tells it like it IS.
We are NOT nearly as good as we thought we were.
We looked good, on paper, but the proof is in the pudding.
Even with McCoy in there, the Saints were ripping off huge runs, and we had no pass rush.
The Lowly Rams pressured Brees the week before this, with a bunch of no names.
Yet our “dominant D Line” got pushed all over New Orleans.
November 8th, 2011 at 12:07 pm
Nick- do you even watch the team?? Gotta be one of the top Clueless statements of all time. Gruden had free reign to sign any and every free agent he wanted!!! He brought them in here by the dozens!! Problem was, he can’t coach! So he brought in old guys that knew how to play, to run his “motion offense”, which Sucked. The league had figured out how to defend that crap years before! Gruden couldn’t coach, so no young players developed! That’s why the team was total crap by the time they ran him off
I Dont like Shaun King. He’s a sad, Bitter little whinner, who’s trying to get a name by trashing players who are all better than he ever was.
But this once, he’s absolutely right in his critism of Dominick. He draft picks are not turning into the superstars he hoped, and his recusal to keep vets, or sign Free agents, is absolutely killing Raheem’s chances of winning.
I expected an 8-8 year. The lockout hurt this young team far worse than a vet team. Losing Caddy and Ruud hurt worse( though I now agree Ruud needed replaced, we needed a year overlap to teach Foster the ropes). But not upgrading the worst( by far)OLBers is inexcusable. Not getting one decent CB to help Ronde is inexcusable. And if anyone is going to tell me Talib is playing great- please don’t bother, you are either blind or clueless. Not getting a good backup for Blount is inexcusable!
Again- we knew this in April, and we aren’t getting payed Huge dollars to see this. Dominick set the team back this year. More than anyone else- it’s his fault.
I still have the patience to watch this young team develop, but this” only thru the draft’ plan is a crock!! Dom better start getting some talent in here, or he should be the one to go!
November 8th, 2011 at 12:18 pm
Meh- Gruden didn’t have a defense here- ever! By his own admission, he left the defense entirely up to Monte Kiffin. Gruden( wisely) had absolutely nothing to do with any aspect of the defense, which won us a SuperBowl.
Zilch.
God, is everybody trying to rewrite history today! Or are your memories really that horrible?
November 8th, 2011 at 12:28 pm
We lost because we need a Defensive Coordinator.Raheem needs to find somebody who knows how to actually run a defense. We have 3 useless LBs that cannot cover anyone and Raheem refuses to run blitz packages to maximize what talent our LBs may possess.Brees had all day because we could get no pressure with our 4 down lineman.Does Raheem adjust and send
more pressure?No!!!He has no clue.
Olsen sucks but Rah as DC is a bigger issue that needs to be fixed.
November 8th, 2011 at 12:38 pm
Capt Tim, I don’t know what your ramblin about. I was responding to a previous comment saying that Gruden didn’t have anything to work with either. I responded saying it was his own fault because like you said he had free reign. Comprehension may not be your best subject.
November 8th, 2011 at 12:39 pm
JOE… I understand king played the postion, but he was terible. He did not lead us anywhere. Our grat D and #28 and #40 was all we had. On the 1st play of the game steve white bats the ball in the air and we have it at the rams 18 yard line AND everyone Knew we could only get 3 points unless Dunn or alstott could run it in BECAUSE or qb King played the postion at a college level!!!!!!!!!!!!
King was great when he had to start for us in our superbowl year. YIKES!
November 8th, 2011 at 12:39 pm
STILL the youngest team in the league, with the youngest coach, and with a 4-4 record. Don’t give me this Packers are the second youngest, bc their QB is seasoned and is the best in the league right now, and that makes all the difference. These guys are what they are when our rosy-colored-sunglasses are taken off. Mediocre.
Frankly I’m not that upset. It’s disappointing to see, and its awful to watch, but its not like I bet my house on us winning a Super Bowl this year, and I guarantee you none of you did either.
This is a growing pains type of year, that really sucks to have to go through, but is necessary in EVERYONE’s development.
Raheem does not deserve play calling blame just yet either. I mean there is a reason Drew Brees is a top 3 qb in the league, and a reason why the saints are the only team who can keep pace with the Packers. But Geno Hayes and Quincy Black are backups AT BEST in the NFL, and Adam Hayward and Dekoda Watson are in the same boat.
LB is a huge issue on this team, and if we are going to blame Dominik for anyhting, it is his decission to pay Black all that money, and not go after anyone else to solidifiy the position. If we “wanted to see what we have first” well guess what, we got nothing. Go do something about it when the offseason rolls around Dom.
November 8th, 2011 at 12:41 pm
Don’t make me get my alter ego out. I save it for special occasions
November 8th, 2011 at 12:59 pm
Capt Tim, you took what I wrote completely wrong. My point was not that Gruden designed that defense. Everyone knows it was Kiffen’s. My point was that you can do a hell of a lot more with a mediocre offense when you have one of the best defenses in the history of the NFL. Calm down, please.
November 8th, 2011 at 1:05 pm
Gruden had “free reign” when it came to free agents yet it was documented that the Bucs had spent the LEAST money of any team in the NFL over his last 5 yrs here…now he’s gone and we are what, 2nd to last in that category? What’s the common denominator? Not saying a huge payroll = automatic success, nor am I saying that he should still be the HC. Dom/Rah’s drafts so far do seem superior to Gru/Allen’s, but you have to also supplement that with some free agency signings…Koenen has been a good one. A few yrs ago we tried with Ward, it didn’t work out…but, doesn’t mean you stop trying, either.
November 8th, 2011 at 1:10 pm
Something to add that I hardly ever hear brought up…while all teams have injuries, of course, it seems like year in and year out, we suffer from a litany, more than most teams. Are some of them fluky (i.e. Graham’s slippage on the field in London) ? Of course. But it’s a definite pattern…we know every yr that Faine is gonna miss at least a few gms, Mccoy is on the shelf again, Lewis hasn’t been active in weeks, Price is still recovering perpetually (and kudos to him for gutting it out), etc etc the list goes on. At any time will they take a good hard look at the training staff? Just sayin..
November 8th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
JOE…you REALLY have to stop giving the King Doosh Bag show ANY pub!!!! They are AWFUL, and the little runt qb just sounds like a disguntled has been!!!!!
November 8th, 2011 at 1:53 pm
King Its really starting to show that your jealous for some reason of Josh Freeman your obviously hoping he collapses like you did.
November 8th, 2011 at 1:54 pm
Oh it’s getting good because everyone is getting their turn to take the accountable pill. I knew the slow starts would catch up and sloppy play. It was just a matter of time. Now I would to add I like King’s take because it was direct and unbiased. We cant disagree with King with any substantial arguments because he provided clear cut evidence. Especially on Josh inaccuracy. Wake up ladies and gentlemen there are many things wrong in the organization. It’s ok if you don’t see it but you’re about to get a dose of truth in 8 weeks.
November 8th, 2011 at 1:58 pm
CaptTim
“Problem was, he(Gruden) can’t coach!”
Really??? Too funny! Didn’t know a coach, that “couldn’t coach”, that could win 95 games out of 176, win 5 playoff games out of 9 and win a SuperBowl! How is that CaptTim? No, he’s not the best, but come on! I know you don’t like the man, but give it a rest.
November 8th, 2011 at 2:03 pm
Just because fans are in a frenzy and pointing fingers at anyone and everyone doesn’t mean the people inside the organization are doing the same thing. Remember that.
November 8th, 2011 at 2:07 pm
Meh and Nick- okay, yer right! Sorry. Having a miserable day. Nick, meant to write Mike, the original commenter. But even he didn’t deserve that.
My bad, Guys. I’ll do what I should do more often.
I’ll shut up a chill. And post when I’m less frantic
November 8th, 2011 at 2:12 pm
@OAR
Gruden’s lifetime winning percentage as a HC .540, does one SB win make up for losing almost have the games you coach?
Remember winning cures all ills.
November 8th, 2011 at 2:13 pm
have = half
really need an edit button.
November 8th, 2011 at 2:20 pm
Brain = edit button.
November 8th, 2011 at 2:41 pm
Capt. Tim, no worries from me! Just return the favor next time I do something similar haha!
November 8th, 2011 at 2:51 pm
I dunno…seems to me like several of his draft picks have a lot of talent. Mason foster, Adrian clayborne, GMaC, Freeman, Cody Grimm, Mike Williams, Gerald Price, LGt Blount…. Seriously…I dont think you can say any of those guys dont have NFL quality talent.
November 8th, 2011 at 2:52 pm
FlMike
Well lets see;
Tom Flores .527(2 SB wins), Dick Vermil .524(2 SB wins), Jim Fassel .523(1 SB appearance), Bobby Ross .540(1 SB appaerance), John Fox .500(1 SB appaerance), Weeb Ewbank .502(1 SB win and 1 loss), Sam Wyche . 440(1 SB appearance).
So, yeah, it helps!
November 8th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
Blount wasn’t a drafted. We picked him up from the Titans after he got cut from their practice squad.
And who is Gerald Price? I think you meant Brian!
November 8th, 2011 at 3:17 pm
FlMike
Or then theres the winners without even making the SB;
Mike Smith .679, Roy Andrews .654, Marty Schottenhiemer .613, Mike Sherman .594, Wade Phillips .573, Chuck Knox .559
or the ones that went but never won the SB;
George Allen .711 Mike Martz .624, Andy Reid .611, Or Lovie Smith .653
There are others Im sure, but YES is still my answer!
November 8th, 2011 at 4:04 pm
We payed more for a back up LB than Sproles?
What an EPIC FAIL
November 8th, 2011 at 4:20 pm
Meh- you bet! While I may get bent outta shape occasionally, I got nothing but respect and admiration for all the posters on this site- yeah, even the haters! , cause anybody this passionate about the Bucs , is a friend of mine! I used to think I was the only one that lived and breathed Buc Football. Turns out there is a ton of us! All good!
November 8th, 2011 at 4:33 pm
I think that the “rocketed” nickname Is probably the worst-fitting, inapplicable nickname ever.
There is nothing “rockstar” about this guy. Is he a wild, anti-establishment, free-thinker? Heck no, he does everything when and how the Glazers say. He is the epitome of pro-establishment, an organizational minion.
The 2009 draft was a debacle save Free. 1 good pick out of 7 doesn’t make a draft when you are starting a “rebuild through the draft only.”
What looks good right now out of the 2010 draft? Maybe Price. Williams has regressed and Grimm has injury concerns.
It was obvious to anyone with objectivity that last year was a joke: Troy smith, Charlie whitehurst, Jake delhomme, Jimmy Clausen, Matt Moore, Max Hall and Sam Bradford (with 4 starts) were 7 wins.
Only Bradford starts for that team today. Carson Palmer another win quit and moved on.
If this team loses Sunday – Katie bar the door – a 1-7 or 2-6 finish is possible and the house better cleaned if that happens.
I believe that if there is any financial advantage to cutting McCoy they should consider it. Not that you wouldn’t consider resigning him at a reasonable rate but to be locked into a 50 million contract with a below average and injury prone player makes no sense at all.
November 8th, 2011 at 4:40 pm
Rockstar sorry
November 8th, 2011 at 5:16 pm
Thomas 2.2 I couldn’t agree more, they always say you get what you pay for and I have always said that “Rockstar” Dominicks strategy of building through the draft without free agency was just a cheap gimmick the Glazers forced him to do and somehow look like he had a “grand plan.” From the cheapness of not getting a real head coach to now abstaining from free agency after a 10-6 season when they said they would add players when we were close to making the playoffs the whole thing has been smokescreen to make money. Regardless of what people say Sproles would have come here for the right amount of money–MONEY TALKS and didn’t everyone get nauseated seeing him tear up our defense when he could have been here. Its not like we did not have the cap room!!!!
November 8th, 2011 at 5:29 pm
Nick:
You make some interesting points, but at the end of the day, it’s a business.
Your premise about Sproles, let’s say the Bucs break the bank and signed Sproles. Then for that kind of price, you can’t just use the guy as a part-time player, you’d have to put him in the backfield fulltime. Then what do you with Blount?
November 8th, 2011 at 5:40 pm
Ugh why is Sproles brought up so many times, HE WASN’T EVER COMING TO TAMPA. He wasn’t gonna sign anywhere but New Orleans. New topic.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:40 pm
Oar…everyone here is screaming because the Bucs are 4-4 and you want to applaud Gruden for having record that is barely above .500 and give him credit for winning a superbowl with a team that Dungy gift wrapped for him??
He didn’t build that team. It takes 3 years to grade a draft but it’s nice that the experts here can do it in less than a year in a lot of cases. You’ve got Thomas ‘I’m gonna hang on Brian Price’s nuts until they crack in my mouth’ who is the only one in the NFL world who thinks Gerald McCoy wasn’t a difference maker for this team. He also thinks that Dom only does what the Glazers tell him to. DUH! What do you do Thomas…mow lawns for a living? Not that there’s anything wrong with that….I’m just sayin’. Of COURSE he does what the Glazers tell him to you complete moron!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are the ones paying him. However, he actually does evaluate the talent and make the decisions come draft day. Shocking isn’t it!!??? Guess what Tommy…..all GM’s do that. They actually do conform to the owner’s wishes and try to pick talent that will help the team. But I’m sure Dom will take you up on your request that they find some ‘financial advantage’ to cutting McCoy and bring it to the Glazers…… Excuse me…I have to go wrap my head in bandages before it explodes.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:58 pm
Dude Thomas..Dom has been with the team since 1995..he was pro player personnel guy that targeted free agents when they used to spend $$..he knows what Tampa is looking for..worked side by side with McKay Allen..So what if he had one bad draft year..his 2010 and 2011 drafts are better than any of Grudens..he gets the rockstar name because he landed Blount and pieced together the first team EVER in NFL History to start at least 10 rookies and have 10 wins..I expected a step back this year but you are too negative..Bucs can win anytime..saints were flat in the first meeting and so could Houston…thats why I watch them every sunday and dont listen to BSPN or haters like you..
November 8th, 2011 at 6:22 pm
Bobby
My initial post was about someone saying Gruden can’t coach. I disagreed and then FlMike asks me about him being barely over .500 and winning the SB. I replyed to him with actual win/loss stats of other coaches(I guess, some of you guys would consider “can’t coach” too), with SB wins or losses. What gives?
Gift wrapped? If it was Dungy’s team, why couldn’t Dungy win the SB with his own team? Gruden brought 23 new players(mostly offensive), almost half the roster, which made the offense accountable. So maybe not Dungy’s team, huh?
November 8th, 2011 at 6:27 pm
Bobby
Where in my posts am I blasting the Bucs and their 4-4 record? Or appaulding Gruden? Hell, I even wrote in my post that I don’t think he’s the best, but the man can coach. Turned the Raiders around from 4-12 to AFC champions.
BTW if was Dungy’s team, then it was Gruden’s Raiders team that got to the SuperBowl?
November 8th, 2011 at 6:28 pm
I am not saying that Dom is horrible the way rah is. Dom has been okay, but okay won’t due if you won’t pay non-kicker free agents and you have a cheap unqualified coach to groom the okay draft picks.
Whoever made the decision to give Quincy Jane black that contract should have their head examined. That guy is the least effective football player I have seen since Mike Clayton. I no that was a rah move because he keeps defending this guy.
November 8th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
It’s not worth listing the FAs that signed for low deals. The fact is obvious about our team so why argue. Just deal with it and keep moving. We are a downward trending 4-4. The record is not bad but the trending is the concern.
November 8th, 2011 at 6:59 pm
Chucky looks better every day compared to this ragtagged undisciplined bunch Rah is presenting.
November 8th, 2011 at 8:51 pm
King has some jealousy issues when it comes to Freeman .
It’s not Freeman’s fault we’ve put absolutely ZERO talent around him. We probably have the worst WR core in football. Mike Williams can’t catch , Benn can’t get open , Winslow can no longer run, the 3rd down back Lumpkin doesn’t even belong in the league. Freeman is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s**t.
November 8th, 2011 at 9:43 pm
Was it just me or was Roy Miller really bad on Sunday? He got thrown around like a rag doll.
November 8th, 2011 at 10:43 pm
BigMacAttack:
Through two coordinators and three different defensive line coaches, Roy Miller has not improved one iota. Don’t think he ever will.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:21 am
Spend some money for the 98 %, go bucs
